Yoda’s Story

Yoda came into SNAFU Rescue via a private party release.  To no fault of his own, his owner wanted him placed in a loving home that can properly care for him and the energy that comes along with a Boston Terrier.

Yoda is a smart, playful, active, social, loving energetic Boston Terrier. He is overly enthusiastic when meeting new people and thinks everyone is his best friend; after offering them some kisses to greet them!  You can often find Yoda searching his foster home for his beloved toys in hopes someone will engage him in play.  He fancies all toys (especially ones that squeak) and literally will play until he just cannot anymore!  Yoda’s favorite is a chuck-it ball… he will love anyone forever if they play that game every day!  He adores his chew bone whilst sitting on the floor watching the happenings of the home.  Yoda can entertain himself for hours dragging all his toys around but would love a family that is willing to play with him (constantly).  When he isn’t burning off some energy indoors, you can find Yoda requesting some nap time.  He settles for a snuggle session, belly rub, or just chilling on a comfy spot watching his favorite TV shows.   After some cuddle time with his humans, you can occupy his time in the backyard with some backyard zoomies, some neighborhood watching, sniffing all the smells in the yard batting around his beloved tennis ball.   Yoda has lots of energy and needs to burn it off!  Outside time and walks are a great way to exercise this fun boy.  When he isn’t following his humans around the house, you can locate him quietly exploring every inch of his foster home.  He is quite smart, and curious, and wants to know where everything is so Yoda must be supervised when wandering the home as he doesn’t know danger.  Yoda is adjusting to yet another new home and will need firm leadership, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home. He is extremely smart so we know Yoda will be eager to learn and receptive to positive reinforcement.  Yoda absolutely gets along well with every adult human he meets!  Yoda gets extremely overwhelmed with children of any age and acts out randomly due to the commotion, noise level, and activity children bring to a home.  He is great with children 95% of the time but he has lunged, and nipped at children unprovoked when the energy level is high.  He has done this a few times as he feeds off the energy in the room and is unable to adjust his behavior.  For this reason and the safety of young children, Yoda’s foster family believes he would be best in an adult-only home (young adults 17 years + are okay). He does well with the resident pup in his foster home after his attempts to be dominant were squashed. Yoda would greatly benefit from a playmate that matched his energy.   As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Yoda is fully potty trained!  After a few initial marking incidents, he quickly picks up on things and does his business when he is asked.  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to offer him a consistent schedule and work with him on a proper signal for potty.  Yoda is fully crate trained.  He is crated when his humans are away from the home for work, errands, and at night. He doesn’t enjoy his crate when his humans are home and will let out a cute little howl to share his displeasure.  Yoda will burrow into the blankets in his crate and rest his little head on a pillow and he is lights out!  He is a MASTER cuddle bug. We believe he would eventually love to share a  human bed to cuddle all night.  For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him.

Medically, Yoda seems to be in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, nares widened, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Yoda does suffer from some seasonal allergies and is offered a daily allergy pill in addition to a cytopoint injection during those high allergy months.

Yoda would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative curiosity, his desire to run/chase his chuck-it ball, and his need for exercise (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  He begs for exercise to burn off his endless energy and a large yard to run and play would be the best fit for this fun-loving boy!  Yoda enjoys a jaunt around the neighborhood to show off his mastered leash skills.  He loves to get out and burn off some energy!  We know he would thrive in an active home that will take him all many adventures and offer him the stimulation and exercise he desires. We also think he would eventually like to go to the office with his new family once he gets comfortable (he will often bark if he is unsure). Even better, Yoda would love a family that has a family member with a flexible home/work schedule as he desires to be around his people as much as possible!  You can’t take him to the office or you don’t have the availability to stay at home all day- that’s okay!  He would happily sleep the day away in his crate as long as he has a comfy blanket to burrow in, and a comfy pillow to rest his head as long as his people can arrange a mid-day potty break for him.  Ultimately, Yoda is quick to make friends, super affectionate, playful, enthusiastic, and adorably mischievous. He thrives in a structured environment.  He is looking for a family in that he can be the center of attention, one that will guide him into proper dog manners/behaviors, including him in family activities (he loves the outdoors), vacations, and day-to-day adventures.  Yoda will forever be a loyal, loving companion to an ADULT-only family.

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Yoda, please submit an adoption application for him today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
