Wolfman’s Story

Wolfman came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

When Wolfman first arrived at rescue, he was very shy and unsure.  He still displays his timid side when inside his foster home, although, with a lot of time, his foster mom has gotten him to trust her and accept petting and snuggles. He does still show fear toward his foster dad and adult human foster brother, so his adoptive family will need to be willing to put the time he needs into establishing the trust and bond he so desperately needs.  When he is the most confident and happy is outside playing with his furry foster sister. They would play for hours if they could. He’s happy to run around, play ball, and follow her lead while exploring the outdoors. His overall shy personality is so cute, and he is making improvements and gaining more and more confidence daily, but it has taken a lot of time and persistence.  Wolfman is a smart, silly, energetic, playful Frenchie boy who loves extra play sessions with his furry friend, running the fenced-in yard, chewing on his favorite bones, and nap time. Wolfman is all puppy when outside, and much more reserved indoors.  He is most comfortable around his furry friend and his trusted human and finds great comfort in their presence.  You can often find Wolfman resting with security in his crate. He will have a nice bone chewing session in his crate and willingly goes in to sleep there at night as well. His new family will need to consistently work with him outside of his crate and not allow him to hide, so he’ll eventually gain trust and comfort when with his new humans. When he isn’t burning off some energy outside, you can find him grabbing his favorite chew toy and lying down for a quiet chew session with his foster siblings. If you’re missing a random piece of clothing, you will likely find it in his crate, as he likes to steal clothing and toys not being used by his foster sister. As mentioned, he can be very timid around new people and new places.  Wolfman is quite smart, and curious, and will take a bit of time to trust.  He is warming up more quickly every day, but it did take several weeks before he could trust his foster mom enough to take a treat from her, so please don’t rush him and expect instant love. He needs a little extra patience as he is still learning how to “dog” and will require some training in his adoptive home to help him gain some confidence.  As mentioned, he currently lives with 2 furry foster siblings but prefers the younger sister more.  Wolfman made fast friends with his fur sister and is thriving in learning what it is like to be a pet!  He most certainly needs a playful fur sibling in his new home to help his confidence and learning. He is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership, and positive and encouraging love to learn how to “dog.” He is extremely smart, a fast learner, and wants to please his human, now that he knows he can trust her.  Wolfman is fearful of humans but has shown the ability to learn to trust and love with time. In addition, Wolfman, like a typical puppy, has many puppy tendencies and should always be supervised when roaming around the home. Because of his timid personality, his foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle children and a home with other balanced furry members.  Wolfman finds comfort around other dogs, and we believe he would thrive in a home with other pets as he continues to learn to “dog”.   As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs and supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Wolfman is doing well with potty training, although he does have an accident here and there.  He is picking up going outside as he is mimicking the other dogs in the home. He has done well with his foster family working from home and a LOT of outside time, but because he’s a puppy and still learning it isn’t surprising that he manages to sneak an accident in a corner at times. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty. Wolfman is fully crate-trained and enjoys his time in his bed. It is great that he’s able to feel comfortable and secure in his crate but will need you to work with him to gain confidence and security outside of his comfort zone. He does sleep in his crate at night and will do so quietly and will remain in his crate all evening with no accidents. Once Wolfman is fully potty trained, we know that he would love to share his adoptive family’s bed at night, but only once he’s gained trust in them to do so. For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him as he doesn’t know danger.

Medically, Wolfman seems to be in great health!  He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!

Wolfman would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative nature, his skittish nature around anything new, and his love for the outdoors (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  He is a CHAMP with stairs so a home with multiple levels would be okay for him.  He is a busybody outside and would love a large yard to run and play with his furry friends!  Wolfman really does need a yard, because he’s not yet a fan of the leash.  Since Wolfman is still working on potty training and is still pretty fearful of most humans, we don’t feel an office atmosphere would be good for him. That may change with time but would not be ideal for him right now. Ultimately Wolfman is looking for an extremely patient and understanding family that can continue to work with him on his puppy tendencies and overall lack of confidence, a family that is active and can include him in many of their weekly activities, and one with other balanced dogs to help him learn the joys of pet life and one with tons of comfy spots to nap.  He is such an amazing playful boy and has come so far already and just needs a little extra attention to learn the ways of being a loved and cherished pet.  He is such a loving sweet cuddly dog that needs some puppy outlets, love, patience, attention, and direction.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
