Valentino’s Story

Valentino came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Valentino is an active, playful, social, outgoing, busy, energetic, and friendly Frenchie boy.  He has NEVER met a stranger and quickly flirts with all new people (big or small) hoping they will pet him and offer him much-desired attention.  He is all gas and no brakes!  He rarely takes a moment to trot away from his toys, following his humans or trying to instigate the resident furry crew to play with his beloved ball.  He enjoys romping around the house and exploring every inch of his surroundings.  Valentino is such a ball of energy and enjoys being in the mix of all the house happenings; he has a major case of FOMO.  He will occasionally rest for a quick nap in a comfy spot but will pop up the minute he thinks someone (or another dog) will engage him in play. Valentino loves playtime… perhaps that statement is the understatement of 2024.  He has yet to meet a ball that he doesn’t love and will beg for a fun game of fetch!  Valentino will push his favorite ball under the couch to engage his foster mom to play as he requests her to retrieve it for him!  When he has exhausted all his energy, Valentino will find a comfy spot on the couch, at times grabbing a yummy bone to nibble on, head back to the overflowing toy bin and empty it out trying to find the pawfect toy to romp around with next.  Yes, Valentino is super energetic but he does have a chill side and CAN relax when his foster family chooses to relax themselves.  Even though his adoration for bouncy balls is real, he will not discriminate against any toys that can easily fly through the air to chase and fetch.  Valentino does enjoy walks as he enjoys meeting new people on these short adventures in addition to showing off his leash skills.  He does enjoy his time outdoors.  Valentino will explore, sniff, and have a general curiosity about his surroundings.  Valentino loves all dogs of all kinds, sizes, and genders.   He is working on his social skills and manners as he is still learning to pick up on the social cues of other dogs. Valentino will continue to beg any dog that he wants to get to play with.  He needs a true leader, and consistent correction to guide him to learn proper dog manners.  His overall kind disposition allows him to get along with all humans, big or small. Valentino met several children at a local meet and greet event and relished in all the attention he received. When children are around, that means more little hands to pay him unlimited amounts of pets, scratchies, and attention.  He does well with kids of any age, he is a big goofy ball of energy and is best suited for gentle, dog-savvy children of any age.  He has a very playful temperament which is favorable when he is around other playful dogs however since Valentino is still learning social cues a balanced and playful dog would be best suited for him. A playful pal would be a huge plus in his adoptive home but Valentino would also thrive in a single-dog environment if offered a lot of playtime and attention.  Slow introductions to other dogs (is a must) and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Valentino is still working on potty training.  He is making fast progress with a consistent schedule and does emulate the outside behaviors of the resident crew.  Yay, Valentino, you’re almost there!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to establish a consistent outside schedule so he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. He is 100% crate trained and will “kennel” for a treat!  He sleeps quietly and comfortably in his crate at night but since we know this sweet boy is a cuddle monster, we know he would love to share a bed and offer many cuddles with his new family!

Medically, Valentino is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, nares widened, palate shortened, tonsils removed, had a dental, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!

Valentino would do great in any type of home since he is a champ at going up and down small amounts of stairs!  Since he does love to explore the yard, has a ton of energy to expel, loves a good game of fetch, and is still working on potty training, a house with a completely closed fenced yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling) for his ongoing safety.  We don’t think he is a candidate to go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office because he has severe car ride anxiety UNLESS the office is 10 mins or less away from the home.  If that is the case, Valentino would love an office environment as he would be the social chair flirting his way into the hearts of all the employees!  He has been able to keep a calm demeanor when his “favorite person” is holding him in the car but for his ongoing safety car rides should be kept to a minimum.  Over time he may be able to overcome this anxiety but for now it is BEST he doesn’t travel long distances (10-15 mins MAX) and because of that he only will be adopted locally (within 30 mins of Omaha, NE) as he is able to be calm in the arms of his foster dog for a longer trip.  He’s completely happy sleeping just a few hours during the day as long as he has a warm soft blanket, a safe chew toy, and a furry friend while his family is away from home.  A part-time or full-time stay-at-home or work-from-home family member would be ideal for Valentino!  As mentioned, he does have a major case of FOMO and prefers to be around his humans as much as possible. Valentino is a little snuggle bug  and is looking for a home that can dote on him, can be included in most (really all) family in-home activities, can offer him tons of exercise/enrichment/playtime and lots of love and attention. He is just the sweetest, eager to please, ball of energy you can find!  Valentino is quite the dream dog as long as you are looking for a playful pup who is willing to dedicate time to help him be successful as he continues to acclimate to pet life. Valentino would be a great addition to a loving family.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
