Toby’s Story

Toby found his way into SNAFU via a private party. His surrendering owner wanted him to be placed in a loving pet home to be spoiled, loved, and live out his life as a cherished pet!

Toby is the definition of an adaptive with a moderate energy level! His energy level typically matches the atmosphere around him.  If his humans are up for a walk or playing a game, so is Toby!  If it’s time for watching TV and snuggling on the couch, well, he is right there too.  He is the pawfect mixture of outgoing/playful and laid-back. Toby loves a good jaunt around the house following his humans around like it is his job or when it is time for a W.A.L.K. Toby is the first one to raise his paw and beeline for the door! A walk means there is an opportunity for him to meet other dogs and people; he relishes these moments to flirt with new dogs and humans..  If he is not on a walk scoping out the neighborhood for new people, he is outside in the yard sunning his cute little buns.  He is a creature of habit… play, walk, sun, and cuddle… wash, rinse, and repeat. If the weather doesn’t permit a walk, Toby will take an opportunity to engage his human foster sister in a game of tug-of-war or even fetch (yes, he returns the toys!).  He has immediately taken to his humans (big and small) and INSISTS on being with them at all times. He thrives with human contact and attention.  He is especially fond of the littles and enjoys the attention and company children offer.  This little snuggle bug would cuddle on the couch all day and watch TV if he was allowed to do so! Even though Toby came from a loving home, he is experiencing a big change and he requires a human leader to help guide him into what is expected of him in his adoptive home and to help him learn proper dog behaviors. Overall, Toby is a little playful snuggle bug that ALWAYS has to be around his human.  He is an equal opportunity lap napper as anyone’s lap will do when it is time to tune into his favorite shows!  There hasn’t been a human (big or small) that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for.  He really is a sweet boy!  Toby does have other furry beings in his foster home and has no problems interacting with them but loses his confidence around bigger, alpha dogs. He plays nicely with dogs of similar size and of any gender.  The only thing this happy-go-lucky boy loves more than playtime is his humans.  Toby LOVES his people, adores his people, and worships his people! He relishes his time to sit with them, snuggle with them and just share the same space with those he loves most.  He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence.  Because of his overall kind disposition, we feel Toby will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs of similar size and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age.  Toby has had a few incidents of guarding his food bowl during dinner time therefore it is recommended he is fed separately. We also feel Toby would thrive in a multi-dog household to continue to foster proper dog behaviors.  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Toby is potty trained and is doing extremely well staying nearly accident-free!  A strict schedule and allowing him time to do his business has been successful!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on potty training as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Toby requires a consistent outside routine and a signal for potty. Toby is fully crate-trained but will occasionally bark/whine in his crate when he is ready to come out.  Since Toby is such a snuggle bug, we know he would love to continue to share a human bed in the evening and would offer many cuddles with his new family.

Medically, Toby is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, had a dental with extractions, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!

Toby would do great in any type of home since but since he fancies exploring the outdoors, chasing things afar, sunning his buns on the patio, and is still learning what can be a danger to him a house with a completely closed-fenced yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling).  Toby is not a great candidate for a share-walled home as he likes to use his voice.  Although he responds well to being called, he seems to have a bit of a need to chase so keeping him safe in a completely fenced yard is best for his ongoing safety. He is a champ at stairs so a multi-level home would be okay for him!  Since Toby really enjoys being around his people as much as possible, we think he would love to eventually go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office.  He is a social butterfly and would adorably flirt his way around the office. If his people are not able to take him to the office that is okay! He would much prefer a part-time or full-time stay-at-home or work-from-home family member.  This sweet little love is looking for some lovin’ and major attention!  Toby thinks he needs to be the center of the universe 24/7.  He would do great with kids, and other playful dogs his size, and activity!  He needs time, direction from a great leader, lots of pets, walks, snuggles, lap time, couch time, and most importantly love!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Toby, please submit an adoption application for him.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
