Tela’s Story
Tela was surrendered to SNAFU Rescue via breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving pet home and to live the rest of her life as a loved and cherished pet.
Tela is a laid-back, easy-going, sweet, submissive, attention-loving Frenchie girl. It has taken her a bit to warm up in her foster home but is coming more and more out of her shell every day! You can often find her searching for the much-desired attention from her humans as she relishes in any and all attention she can get! When she isn’t getting all the loves and pets from her humans you can find Tela taking a quiet moment, grabbing some space in her crate or a comfy bed, and grabbing a nap. When it is TV time, you can find Tela relaxing on her soft bed or even in her crate knowing her people are near. Don’t be fooled by Tela’s age! She is young at heart and acts like a young pup! She is a very active pup, especially in the mornings, and enjoys her daily stroll; she is very much a “walking” dog. Tela walks about a mile every morning and beams with happiness afterward. Her gorgeous smile lights up a room! Immediately following her long walk, Tela is requesting some downtime to relax. She will search the house for all her favorite “treasures” and bring them back to her napping location to hide them for safekeeping. Tela is very much a hoarder! No toy or bone is safe, as she will channel her bone collector skills and find every single one that is left unattended in the home and bury them inside her crate. Even though she guards her prized possessions, she does not aggressively do this at all! She is still learning to trust so patience is key when warming up to Tela. She currently lives with several foster furry siblings and often thinks she is their best friend! She does great with her furry friends both male/female big/small. She is experiencing a big transition and will need consistent leadership to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected of her in her adoptive home. She will need an adoptive home that will be gentle and loving but still allow her the time needed to acclimate to yet another home. She seems to get along well with every human she meets! Although she has not met any littles, her foster family believes she would be great in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children of any age, with other dogs, or equally okay as an only pup. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Tela is potty trained. She has not had accidents in her foster home when kept on a schedule and when her furry friends are with her to remind her to do her business. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to offer her a consistent schedule to continue her potty training success. Tela is 100% crate trained and has not had any accidents in her crate. She does sleep quietly in her crate when her foster family happens to leave the home and as well at night. Her crate is her safe place and very much enjoys the comforts of her space. We do think Tela would eventually love to share a bed with her adoptive family! For her safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule is kept for her.
Medically, Tela seems to be in great health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, had a dental, microchipped and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Tela does require daily drops for her eyes as they are cloudy from signs of past eye ulcers (does not impact her vision). It is unknown if she will need to remain on these drops in perpetuity as the drops have helped clear her eyes; her eyes will need to be monitored and future treatment of drops discussed with her vet.
Tela would do great in a home with a fenced-in yard as she enjoys doing perimeter checks on those that pass by. A multiple floor apartment-style dwelling would be okay for Tela as she enjoys walks and is fully leashed trained; an adjacent fenced-in yard on a ground-level unit would be ideal even though she does do wonderful with stairs! We think Tela would love to go to the office with her new family since she is the happiest around her people as long as she has a comfy bed to relax in. You can’t take her to the office- that’s okay! She will happily sleep the day away in her crate with a comfy blanket as long as her people can arrange a mid-day potty break for her. Tela is very adaptable. She is looking for a calmer, easy-going family that is active or low-key, but offers her the attention she desires, daily walks to keep her smiling, yummy snacks, an abundance of toys and a dedicated person/family to love her through her retirement years. Her infectious smile lights up every room she enters!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
