Sweetie’s Story
Sweetie came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Sweetie is a super sweet, active, playful, attention-seeking, sassy, snuggly, social, energetic, outgoing, friendly, and lovable Frenchie puppy; she is the pawfect balance of a little bit of everything! She enjoys romping around the house and exploring every inch of her surroundings. She runs around the furniture like it is placed pawfectly for her obstacle course use! Sweetie has an affinity for the outdoors and often requests time outside to take in all the smells and sun her bulldog buns on the deck. Most of her outdoor and indoor time is spent playing a game of chase with her unwilling foster sister. When her best friend is tired of her shenanigans, Sweetie will find some mischief and search around the home for items that are NOT Sweetie-friendly, such a typical puppy! She must be supervised at all times as Sweetie is still learning proper dog manners and what items are dog-friendly. Once she notices her foster sister is awake, she will again pester her for more play time! Yes, Sweetie is all play, play, and more play! Once the fun and excitement are over, she will search for her beloved bone and snuggle up in any comfy spot for a much-needed nap. Sweetie will always look for her people or her furry pal to partake in a cuddle session during her snooze. She truly just wants to be with her people or furry friends all the time as she finds comfort in their presence and the attention she is offered. After a much-needed puppy nap, she is off circling the house following her foster siblings around, mimicking their behaviors and stealing their toys. Sweetie’s overall fun, happy disposition allows her to get along with her furry foster sibling who is quite a bit bigger than her. She has a very lovable and silly temperament which is favorable when she is around other dogs. She has yet to meet any human, big or small, that she hasn’t fallen head over paws for. Because of her lighthearted disposition, we feel Sweetie will do perfectly well with other dogs and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age. Sweetie is still a young puppy, and she comes with all the puppy tendencies; finger nibbles, jumping, etc. She needs some basic puppy training to learn what is expected of her in the home. We also feel Sweetie would thrive in a multi-dog household as she emulates other dog behaviors and picks up quickly on what is expected in the home and proper dog manners. She is a very quick learner and picks up on routines with ease. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Sweetie has an intestinal hernia that is unable to be surgically corrected. Because of her diagnosed IBD (irritable bowel disease), she has frequent, loose bowel movements. She will need an adoptive family that is able and willing to let her out frequently and clean up potential inadvertent messes. Her adoptive family should have some experience or education with dogs with digestive issues and be prepared for the additional care that comes along with her situation. Sweetie is on a very regular schedule of being let out during the day every 2 hours. Sweetie has had some accidents overnight, but as she has aged, she has been able to hold her bladder/bowels for longer periods. Sweetie is still working on potty training. She is progressing but will need a consistent schedule to help. As with all of our dogs, any adopter must be patient and willing to continue working on her potty-training success as she acclimates to her new home and surroundings. Sweetie needs a regular outside routine, positive reinforcement, and a signal for potty.
Sweetie is not at all a fan of her crate when she is not offered her meals or enjoying a frozen lick mat with her vet approved food but will tolerate it if rewarded. Sweetie does sleep in her crate on occasion with the door open and her foster family close by but would much rather share a bed and offer snuggles to her new family! For her safety, we recommend that she is kept in a similar dog-safe area or secured in her crate when her humans are away from the home and/or she is left unsupervised so she remains safe. As a typical puppy, Sweetie will look for non-puppy items to chew on and has limited control over her bowels, so her family should be prepared that Sweetie will have occasional accidents if she is not secured in a crate. She does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home. Sweetie does sleep in a human bed at night and requests that her adoptive family offer her the same luxury.
Medically, Sweetie is in overall good health. She has been diagnosed with IBD via an intestinal scope with multiple biopsies. Sweetie MUST maintain a strict prescription diet (Hills I/D; $51.99 per bag- lasts 5-6 weeks), weekly B-12 injections (current veterinary cost $144 for a 6-month supply), and a combination of OTC probiotic supplements. Sweetie mustn’t be offered anything outside her RX diet as flare-ups can occur if she veers away from her approved diet. As long as she is kept at a healthy weight and on her strict vet approved GI diet, she should be able to live a normal life but may always remain on the smaller side. Sweetie has been spayed, tonsils removed, updated on vaccinations, deworming and has been microchipped. She has been given all clear for adoption by our veterinarian!
Sweetie would be a great addition to any family as long as a consistent routine is established, she follows her prescribed diet/supplements, and has a healthy outlet for her energy. A home without steps would be ideal as Sweetie is a princess who demands to be carried up and down stairs! A fenced yard is preferred due to Sweetie’s frequent need to empty her bowels. Ultimately, Sweetie would best fit a family that is willing to establish and maintain a routine. She will need a family that is not regularly away from the home for more than 4 hours or can come home to let her out for a mid-day potty break or two if they work outside of the home. We also think she’d love to go work with her new family if they can take her with them; she would need an office on the ground level for easy-to-access potty breaks. Ideally, she would love a work-from-home or stay-at-home parent to spend her days with!
She adores car rides and flirting with every new person she meets! She would love an active family that is willing to take her along for the ride; she is just about the cutest partner to take anywhere! Sweetie thrives in the company of people and furry friends and hates being left alone. The ideal family would have a stay-at-home or work-from-home parent who could spend all their time with her.
Sweetie’s foster family reports that she is an unbelievably sweet girl and would be such a great addition to a family that can give her the time, love, and extra care that she needs and deserves. She will require extra TLC but returns all the love she is given tenfold. She loves to cuddle, play hard, and nap hard! Sweetie runs, jumps, and plays just like any puppy her age would.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
