Sterling’s Story

Sterling came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Sterling has a quiet, super chill, loving, stubborn, laidback, and reserved disposition.  His favorite pastimes include hanging around his humans, following his humans, sitting on the lap of his humans, and cuddling his humans.  Yes, Sterling is very much a Velcro Frenchie!!!  He is such a friendly, happy boy who loves extra cuddles and being snuggled.  Sterling is still learning about toys and enjoys basking in the sun and nibbling on his beloved bone.  Sterling enjoys the company of other animals but would prefer that all the love, pets, and attention offered are just for him.  He gingerly will commandeer the hands of the person offering affection. Sterling is still learning the ways of pet life and relies on his human for direction, guidance and support.  He will not initiate play with his foster brother and is relatively ambivalent to him, he’d much rather be laying on some comfy surface or hanging out with his favorite human.  He does however run with his foster brother if a ball is thrown in the yard.  Sterling does love his outside time (as long as rain is not involved) and fancies short jaunts around the neighborhood stopping every so often to take in the new scenery and new people. He has such a curious nature about him!   His leash skills are good but still needs a little fin-tuning!  After a perfectly suited (short) walk for his size, Sterling will search for a comfy place to snuggle up or preferably find a lap for a much-needed nap.  Did we mention napping and snuggles again?!?!  Sterling will always look for his people to partake in a cuddle session during his snooze but if they are not available a plush bed will do.  He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence. Sterling will ALWAYS follow his people all around the house and refuses not to be in the same room with them. Sterling’s overall relaxed disposition allows him to get along with his furry foster sibling. He has a very kind temperament which is favorable when he is around other dogs. Sterling will resource guard his high-valued items. He will growl when the resident dog gets too close to his prized possession but that’s where it ends; it does not escalate past that.  Sterling is immediately corrected when this unwanted behavior presents itself.  He has yet to meet any human (big or small) that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for!  Because of his overall kind and lighthearted disposition, we feel Sterling will do perfectly well with other passive, balanced dogs and with do-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age.  We also feel Sterling would do so well with other furry creatures or be equally okay as an only-dog household as he enjoys all the human attention to himself.  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Sterling is fully potty trained ONLY if he is kept on a strict schedule!  He has not had any accidents in his foster home (outside of some marking incidents).  Since his neuter the marking has decreased but that behavior is still a work in progress as his hormone levels continue to decrease. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings.  He is 100% crate-trained and does not have any accidents while crated.  He sleeps quietly when his foster family happens to be away from the home as he has a plush warm blanket to provide him comfort.  Sterling begrudgingly sleeps in his crate in the evening but would much rather share a bed and offer many cuddles with his new family!

Medically, Sterling is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, nares widened, tonsils removed, had a dental, palate shortened, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!  He has DEEP wrinkles and will need DAILY care when it comes to maintenance.  It is suggested that his folds are often cleaned with medicated wipes. He does have some food sensitivity and is kept on a salmon-based diet and does very well!

Sterling would do great in almost any type of home!   A home with a fully fenced yard will be preferred for his ongoing safety but isn’t required. Sterling is not overall very active but does enjoy brief time outdoors, he is working on perfecting his leash skills so a fenced yard would be ideal but he is okay being secure on a leash and harness during his short moments outside.  A multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling would be okay for Sterling as long as it is on the first floor with an adjacent fenced area.  He does okay with stairs; overall he is intimidated by them and needs human hype and courage to conquer them.  He does love to sniff and explore outside and is happy to do so in the yard or even on a short (very short) walk.  Since Sterling is an overall quiet, chill little boy, we think he would love to go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office.  He currently sleeps ALL day in his foster dad’s home office (who is his absolute favorite person in the world)  participating in zooms, snoring on conference calls, and offering to keep his lap warm via snuggles.  He would really love it If his family had a work-from-home or stay-at-home parent as he enjoys the company of his humans. Sterling would not be a good candidate for a family that is away from the home for long working hours. He desires time with his loved ones and if his people are gone for too long his anxiety would get the best of him.  He does well in the car and would love to be allowed to tag along on family adventures!  Sterling is a little snuggle bug looking for a person/family that can offer a lap to rest his precious head, allow him to be everywhere they are, offer many belly/head scratches, short walks, and lots of love and attention. A balanced furry pal would be a HUGE plus but not required!  He will repay all the love with his unwavering loyalty!  Sterling is truly the sweetest boy in need of a family that has the time and energy to allow him to develop into pet life.

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Sterling, please submit an adoption application for him.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
