Scrunchie’s Story
Scrunchie came into the SNAFU Rescue via a a shelter release. She was found wandering the streets and went weeks unclaimed. The shelter wanted her to be placed with a breed specific rescue to help find her a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Scrunchie is a laid-back, affectionate Frenchie/English Bulldog mix who embodies the perfect balance between playful energy and relaxed companionship. While she enjoys bursts of fun, like running along the fence with her foster sisters when the neighbor dogs are out or engaging in a spirited game of fetch (especially when her beloved squeaky toys are involved), her favorite place to be is curled up on the couch. Whether it’s snuggling beside her favorite humans or simply enjoying some quiet relaxation time, Scrunchie is happiest when she’s in a cozy spot. Snuggling is her top priority, and she’s never far from her people, always seeking out attention and pets to make her day.
Though Scrunchie loves to relax indoors, she also has a strong appreciation for the outdoors, especially when the weather is cool. She enjoys leisurely walks where she can take in all the new smells and sounds of her surroundings, and she absolutely loves basking in the sunshine in the yard. She’s an easygoing companion on these outings, perfectly content to stroll by your side and take in the world at her own pace. Despite her calm demeanor, Scrunchie will perk up for a good game of fetch, and her playful side shines through when she’s chasing after her favorite toys.
One of Scrunchie’s most endearing qualities is her incredibly friendly and gentle nature. She has never met a stranger and greets everyone she encounters with a wagging tail and an open heart. Whether it’s a new person or another dog, Scrunchie is always ready to make new friends. She is extremely quiet, so much so that her foster family has only heard her bark once, making her an excellent companion for someone seeking a peaceful, low-maintenance dog. Despite her quiet nature, Scrunchie is full of love and affection, always eager to be near her people, and she’ll do anything to make her leader proud.
Scrunchie’s eagerness to please makes her a quick learner. While she’s already well-mannered, she is currently working on mastering commands like “lay down” and “stay,” and her willingness to learn new things shows her potential to continue thriving in a structured environment. She’s very motivated by affection and attention, so training is a breeze with this smart girl. She’s excited to show off her new skills and is constantly looking for ways to impress her family.
When it comes to her living environment, Scrunchie is incredibly adaptable. She loves the company of her furry foster sisters and enjoys playing alongside them, but she’s also independent enough to be the only dog in the home, as long as her family is committed to giving her the attention and social interaction she craves. Scrunchie is very much a people-oriented dog, and she thrives on human interaction. Her quiet, loving presence makes her an ideal companion for anyone looking for a dog who enjoys being both active and relaxed.
Scrunchie would do well in just about any home, whether with a family, a single person, or even school-aged children who enjoy spending time with her. As long as she has a comfortable spot to rest, some squeaky toys to play with, and a family to love, she will be a happy, content dog. Whether it’s lounging on the couch, exploring the outdoors, or learning new tricks, Scrunchie is the perfect companion for someone seeking a loving, gentle, and easygoing dog who is full of affection. This giant love bug is ready to meet her forever family and bring her signature blend of calm, charm, and endless snuggles into their lives. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must. Scrunchie would love to have human siblings in her furever home, and even more, hands to pet her with, but she would do well in a home without children as well. Needless to say, this precious sweetheart is darn near bulletproof and will thrive in most types of homes, as long as she has someone to love and cherish her.
Scrunchie’s foster family happily reports she is still working on potty training and is nearly potty trained. She continues to make progress with a strict and routine outside schedule. It has helped her to have other furry friends for her to follow and mimic desired behaviors like going potty outside and sitting calmly when waiting for food or a snack. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success. Scrunchie is fully crate trained (without accidents). Since Scrunchie is a master snuggler, we know she would love to share her human bed at night once fully potty trained. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Scrunchie does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.
Medically, Scrunchie seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, her nares widened, her prolapsed eyelid fixed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian. Scrunchie was DNA tested and came back 51.6% French Bulldog and 49.4% English Bulldog!
Scrunchie is very adaptable, and we think she would do well in almost any type of home, but would do best in a house with a fenced yard since she is working on perfecting potty training and does not know danger. Scrunchie has perfectly mastered going up and down stairs, so a multi-level home or apartment would be okay for her. In an apartment setting, ideally, a nearby fenced-in yard would be best as she finalizes the art of potty training. She is an overall quiet pup, so a share-walled home is okay for her! Work from home or a stay-at-home parent? Scrunchie would absolutely love that! She also would be a great candidate to take to the office (once she has perfected potty training). She is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall desire to include their pet into all facets of their lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles, offer unlimited pets and couch time. Scrunchie loves nothing more than to be included in any human activities; she is a great ride-along companion as well and has been very relaxed on car rides!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
