Samra’s Story
Samra came into the SNAFU Rescue via an owner surrender to a shelter. The shelter wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet that can best suit her medical needs.
Meet Samra, calm, cozy companionship wrapped in a sweet little pug package
At 7 years old, Samra has mastered the art of simply being. She’s a calm, loving girl whose greatest joy in life is spending time with her people, and truly, ALL people. Samra has never met a stranger and happily welcomes everyone she encounters with her gentle, affectionate nature. There’s nothing flashy about her, and that’s exactly what makes her so special. She brings a quiet, steady presence that makes a house feel like home.
Her absolute favorite time of day is when the family winds down. As the evening settles in, Samra is ready to claim her spot on the couch, perfectly content to relax beside you and soak in the moment. She’s not demanding or high-energy, just a laid-back companion who enjoys life at a slower, more peaceful pace.
During the day, Samra is happy to lounge in her dog bed with a favorite Nylabone, especially if she can keep an eye on her people. She enjoys being near you, even if she’s just quietly observing from across the room. She’s independent in the best way, comfortable entertaining herself, but always happiest when she knows you’re close by.
Samra’s manners are truly top-notch. She is completely potty trained and has excellent house habits. She sleeps quietly through the night on a dog bed in the bedroom and settles in without a fuss. Because of her trustworthy nature, she’s earned the privilege of free roaming when her people are away. That said, she is also comfortable going into a crate if needed.
Socially, Samra is as easy as they come. She has no concerns with kids, other dogs, or even cats. Though we always recommend slow introductions and supervision! Her easygoing personality makes her a pro at meeting new people and soaking up their affection. She would be perfectly content as an only dog, but she’s also completely unfazed by other dogs in the home. She tends to prefer a peaceful coexistence; she’s happy to do her own thing and let other dogs do theirs, with the occasional sweet moment where she’ll sneak in for a snuggle.
One thing that definitely motivates Samra? Food! She is highly food motivated and will happily show off her willingness to learn (or just charm you a little extra) when treats are involved. This makes her both fun and easy to manage.
Medically, Samra does have a condition affecting her back end. Through medical evaluation and trial, she is presumed to have Pug Degenerative Myelopathy (often referred to as Pug Myelopathy).
This is a progressive neurological condition that affects the spinal cord and typically causes weakness and incoordination in the back legs over time. As the condition advances, dogs may experience increasing mobility challenges and can develop bowel or urinary incontinence. For more detailed information on what to expect, please visit: https://pugrearataxiaparalysis.com/index.html
Right now, Samra is still mobile and able to get around with only minimal assistance, and she continues to enjoy her daily routine and time with her people. She does experience some fecal incontinence, meaning accidents can occasionally “sneak up” on her without much warning.
Samra will need a dedicated and compassionate adopter who understands that her needs will change over time. As her condition progresses, she will require additional support, but with the right care and accommodations, dogs with this condition can continue to live happy, comfortable lives for quite some time.
She has been spayed, received a dental, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, and microchipped. She has been cleared for adoption by our veterinarian who shares the same sentiment: What matters most is ensuring Samra feels safe, loved, and supported by her family every step of the way, and she will absolutely give that love right back.
While Samra can navigate stairs, her condition does make it more challenging, especially when going up. Stairs should be avoided, and she should be assisted or closely supervised when down to prevent strain or injury. Samra is a pro on the leash, and short walks in pug-appropriate weather are encouraged to help with her strength.
That said, Samra has absolutely no objections to being carried or given a ride in a stroller… in fact, she quite enjoys it. She’s more than happy to be treated like the royal pug she is and chauffeured wherever she needs to go.
Samra truly enjoys her time outdoors and takes great pleasure in soaking up the fresh air. She loves spending time in the yard, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, and offering her signature “security bark” to people walking or driving by. It’s her way of staying involved and doing her job. On those perfect weather days, you’ll often find her happily sunning herself and taking it all in. A fenced yard is preferred so she can safely enjoy this time, but it’s not required as long as her adopter is committed to providing secure, supervised outdoor time. Because she does like to use her voice, Samra is not the best fit for a home with shared walls, such as an apartment or townhouse.
Samra would thrive in a home looking for an easygoing, affectionate companion who doesn’t need constant activity to be happy. She’s the perfect match for someone who appreciates the quieter side of life, a dog who will sit with you, relax with you, and simply be with you.
She will do best with a family who is not only drawn to her sweet, calm nature but also ready to walk alongside her as her needs evolve and be willing to provide patience, support, and lots of love every step of the way.
If you’re looking for a loyal little couch buddy who will bring warmth, calm, and unconditional love into your home, Samra may be your perfect match

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
