Row’s Story

Row came into the SNAFU Rescue via a shelter release. Row was sadly found wandering the streets with just his wonky wheelchair in tow.  The shelter wanted to find a breed specific rescue to help row find the most appropriate home to care for his special needs.

Row is a lively, outgoing, and incredibly lovable French Bulldog who doesn’t let anything stand in his way—not even his wheels! Despite being paralyzed, Row has an unquenchable enthusiasm for life and never misses an opportunity for fun. He’s always ready to roll—literally—whether it’s chasing after a large tennis ball, going on walks, or engaging in playful antics with his foster siblings. Row’s zest for life is contagious, and he’ll inspire everyone around him with his joyful spirit and determination. Row is the perfect blend of active and laid-back. His favorite thing in the world is to be outside, chasing after a ball or exploring his surroundings on his wheels. He’s incredibly fast and agile on his wheels, so you’ll often see him zooming around the yard, keeping pace with the other dogs, and showing off his impressive maneuvering skills. His favorite game? Pushing or chasing a large tennis ball around—he’ll happily chase it down as long as someone is willing to keep the game going! Row’s playful energy isn’t limited to just solo activities. He *loves* to engage with his furry pals, especially during a good game of tug-of-war or playful wrestling. He’s fearless and confident, never letting his physical limitations hold him back. Whether it’s a friendly romp with his doggy siblings or trying to coax a new friend into play, Row’s persistence and enthusiasm make him the life of any doggy playgroup. He’s truly the heart of the pack! Row adores meeting new people and dogs alike. With his outgoing nature, he’s the type of dog who will greet everyone with excitement, ready to make new friends. If you’re someone who enjoys being social, Row will fit right into your lifestyle, as he thrives on interaction and loves being the center of attention. He’s particularly fond of people who will engage with him by kicking his favorite ball or giving him some good head rubs. His loving personality shines through whether he’s out on a walk meeting new faces or snuggled up at home with his foster family.

As much as Row loves to play, he also knows how to kick back and relax. After a fun-filled play session or an exciting walk, Row is ready for some serious cuddle time. He’ll curl up next to his humans or furry pals, content to rest and recharge for his next adventure. He has a heart full of love and a soft spot for snuggling, and you’ll often find him seeking out a cozy spot for a nap. Whether it’s next to you on the floor or nestled in with his doggy siblings, Row knows how to enjoy the quiet moments just as much as the active ones. Though Row is a social butterfly and loves playing with his doggy friends, he does have a bit of a protective streak when it comes to his food and bones. He can be possessive over these prized items, so it’s important to feed him separately and avoid giving bones around other dogs. This is something that can be easily managed with a little structure, and Row is very receptive to guidance. With the right approach, he thrives in a balanced, managed environment and continues to enjoy his playtime and social interactions without issue.

Row’s adventurous nature is one of his most remarkable traits. He may be paralyzed, but he doesn’t think of himself as any different from other dogs. Whether he’s speeding down the sidewalk on his wheels during a walk or challenging his furry foster siblings to keep up with him, Row faces the world with courage and excitement. Every day is a new adventure for him, and he greets each one with a wagging tail and a determined spirit. He loves going on walks and exploring new places, and he’ll be the first to let you know when he’s ready for his next outing.

Row’s love for life extends beyond his canine friends—he’s great with kids, too! His gentle, affectionate nature makes him a wonderful companion for children of all ages. He knows how to engage in playful fun without getting too rough, and he’s patient and loving with younger humans. His foster family has seen him interact beautifully with children, and they believe he’d make an amazing family dog. Row is also fantastic with other dogs. His playful nature makes him a great companion for dogs who enjoy a little friendly competition or a wrestling match. He’s always game for a bit of tug-of-war or a chase around the yard, but he also respects when his furry friends need a break. He’s a well-rounded playmate who fits right in, no matter the size or energy level of his canine companions.

Row is going through a big transition and will need patient and caring leadership to help him adjust to his forever home. Despite his wheels, Row’s independence and resilience are incredible, but he still relies on the guidance of a loving human to help him navigate his environment safely. His adoptive family will need to understand his needs—both physical and emotional—and provide him with the structure and care he deserves. Row would do best in a home with playful furry friends or as an only dog where he can soak up all the attention. He’s great with kids and would love to be part of an active family that enjoys walks, playtime, and, of course, snuggles. Row is truly a one-of-a-kind pup, and his ability to adapt to any situation is nothing short of amazing. He’s fully ready to bring his unbreakable spirit and endless love into a new family that will cherish him for the incredible dog he is. If you’re looking for a dog who will inspire you every day, Row is your guy. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Row is considered both urine and fecal incontinent.  He is not aware when he needs to urinate or defecate, therefore Row wears a diaper when he is exploring the indoors as he cannot control the dribbles. He is kept on a strict outdoor schedule and those movements are timed during his time outside.  Row is crate-trained but has anxiety while in his crate; he tolerates his crate for short periods when his foster family is away from the home.  He is crated during these times for not only his safety but also to prevent accidents in the home. He prefers the comfort of a small secure space and sleeps quietly at night. Row is NOT diapered at night to allow the area to remain dry and he can keep his area pretty dry all night as long as he is expressed right before bedtime (both bladder and bowels).  In addition, this regimen will greatly assist so he does not develop a diaper rash or a UTI.  Due to his condition, Row is prone to UTIs and needs his diaper frequently and also has his bladder expressed to allow him to empty his bladder (he will need to be expressed 2x daily).  He is on a cranberry supplement to help avoid further UTI issues (he will need to remain on this supplement in perpetuity). His diapers are checked and changed often to ensure he remains sanitary and clean; this diligent approach is required for his ongoing health.  

Medically, Row is in good health.  He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, and microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian!   As mentioned Row is paralyzed in his hind legs and is both fecal and urine incontinent.  Row is unable to do stairs or get himself onto any elevated surfaces, instead, a pair of loving arms would be preferred to carry him up and down any amount of stairs. Row does not have pain and is a very happy boy! Row has the propensity to develop some skin irritation where his diaper meets his wheelchair.  This MUST be monitored and he MUST be offered time outside his diaper for this area to remain healthy.  

Row would do best in a ranch-style house unless his family can carry him up and down any amount of stairs.  He gets around amazingly well using his wheelchair and would benefit from a large backyard due to his love for the outdoors and his desire to run all around chasing his furry friends and his beloved tennis ball.  A fenced-in yard is NOT required for Row.  Row will require a VERY patient and understanding family who understands that he will require extra daily care, and will need to wear diapers and have them changed often.  It’s an adjustment and quickly becomes a routine. We also think he’d love a family willing to offer tons of attention, and one with the commitment and patience to properly care for a pup that is paralyzed.  We do think Row would be a great office candidate as he is quiet (he is unable to bark) and desires to be on the office welcoming committee!  Can’t take him to the office?  Row would be much happier with a full-time or part-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent!  The least amount of crate time the happy Row is!  He would greatly benefit from the additional ability to be offered a few diaper breaks during the workday and to have his diaper changed frequently. Row is such a resilient pup and he makes it so easy to care for his special needs.  He is such a little love bug who has so much energy and is always ready to go with those he loves the most.  Row would love kids and other furry friends in his adoptive family if at all possible as he lights up around both small humans and playful furry creatures. Row is most definitely a Velcro Frenchie who so desperately wants to be part of an active family and take on as many adventures as possible; attending kids’ outdoor sporting events is his most favorite activity to attend!
