Rocco’s Story
Rocco came into the SNAFU Rescue via a private party. His owner wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.
Look at his infectious smile!!! Rocco is a happy, curious, inquisitive, stubborn Frenchie who adores comfy spots while watching all the happenings of the activity in his foster home. Be ready for a dog that won’t allow his human to leave the room without petting him and who insists on being as social as possible with any new people that come into his space. Rocco desperately wants to please his people and any people that he meets. He nudges his way to humans to make sure they know he is present! He is responsive to some commands (he knows the word NO), is easily redirected, loves encouragement, and will do just about anything for a chance to nibble on his beloved bone! When Rocco isn’t glued to his comfy bed, you can find him exploring the yard, following his foster siblings around like it is his job, After a fun romp outside he is back to his comfy spot grabbing a nap near his humans. He has bursts of energy throughout the day that are equally matched with chill time; he is very balanced in that way. When he is ready to chill, he will grab a soft bed resting his head in a pawfect place to ensure he doesn’t miss a thing that happens! Rocco is new to pet life and is trying to figure out this whole new world he was thrown into. He will need time and patience as he acclimates to pet life. He seems interested in toys but has yet to figure out what to do with them, loves a good benebone but hasn’t taken to anything else to nibble on. He is insecure, always looking for his human for direction, correction, and communication. Everything is new to him and overwhelming! He is learning to be a gentleman, learning to take direction, and making vast improvements every day! Rocco is experiencing a big transition and will need firm leadership, patience, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home. Positive reinforcement and a lot of praise and treats, when positive behavior is present, have worked wonders for him! Rocco is seemingly awkward when interacting with other dogs. He seems interested in them but is overall awkward as he is still learning what is and isn’t proper dog behavior. He cohabitates well with balanced female dogs and takes their direction well when unwanted behavior is present. Rocco has alpha energy and will show displeasure when being asked to do something he doesn;t want to do; if you ask him to move over when sleeping he will growl with displeasure. He is all bark and no bite but he needs to be immediately corrected when unwanted behavior presents itself. He has a male foster brother and will display alpha tendencies around him at times. Rocco also seems to get along well with every human he meets (big or small)! He has a very gentle, chill and kind disposition when around small children graciously accepting pets from lots of little hands but does not seek out their affection or attention. His foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children of any age and in a home with a well-balanced passive female dog (big or small) that would teach him the good ways of pet life. Due to his insecurities, Rocco would not do well with an overly alpha, dominant dog as their presence could be threatening him. He would be okay as an only child if his adoptive family was able to spend quality time with him guiding him, and teaching him all the good things about pet life. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Rocco is about 100% potty trained. For Rocco to continue to have success in his new home, his adoptive family must be willing to work with him on a signal for potty. Rocco is crate-trained and sleeps quietly without accidents while his foster family is away from the home. He is offered a yummy treat and a crate safe bone to nibble on to keep him company. He can take a minute to get settled (he will voice his displeasure every now and again) and within a few minutes, he is snoozing away. We know that he would eventually love to sleep in a human bed at night! Because Rocco loves to be around his humans so much, it is recommended that he is only in his crate when his humans are away from the home as having people move about the home while crated can cause some undo anxiety.
Medically, Rocco seems to be in great health! He has been neutered, nares widened, is updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Rocco has those typical Frenchie season allergies. Rocco is given a daily Zyrtec (generic) to help manage them. Because of his allergies, he will need diligent care keeping his folds clean; good news is Rocco loves the extra TLC!
Rocco would do well in a home with a fully fenced-in yard. He is extremely FAST and loves to explore, sniff, scratch, and run about the yard. A house with a fenced yard/large yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard) as he will dart if something interests him. He craves outdoor time and a large yard to run and play would be the best fit for this boy! Rocco desires a family that can spend a lot of time with him as he prefers the comfort of his people. A part-time or full-time stay-at-home or work-from-home family member would be ideal for him! But if that is not possible, he would love to go to the office with his family; he would be the pawfect office companion and would flirt his way into the hearts of all! Rocco is okay with spending a few hours at home alone but wouldn’t have success if his adoptive family was gone on a long workday. Overall, Rocco needs a leader who will patiently guide him to enjoy all that pet life has to offer. He is a blank slate who is desperate for approval and craves love and attention. He is such a darling, sweet boy who deserves a family to call his very own! Rocco would love a family that takes adventures and would include him! He adores a good car ride (and a snooze) and is a great passenger.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
