Ripa’s Story
Ripa came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Ripa is an energetic, playful, snuggly, attention-seeking English Bulldog puppy who is appropriately rowdy (when there are similar-sized dogs to engage) but also has a very chill side to her personality. She fancies her time spent outdoors and will romp around the yard and play in the bushes with her furry friends, or bask in the sunshine. After exploring the yard and soaking up her vitamin D, Ripa will settle indoors for a chew session followed by an afternoon siesta – either on a plush dog bed or a human lap. She loves treats, meal time, heater vents, and playing outside! Her favorite toys include bones and any chewable filled with treats, but she has been known to chew on just about anything. Nothing she can get her mouth on is off-limits for chewing! And in true Bulldog fashion; her favorite pastime includes eating. Again, nothing is off-limits!
Ripa’s overall fun, rambunctious, yet gentle disposition allows her to get along with her furry friends, both big and small. However; Ripa seeks comfort in the closeness of her bigger fur sibling and foster mama when she is unsure about loud noises or new situations. She does not know danger and should always be supervised as she tends to find items she is not supposed to get into! Ripa would thrive in a home with a similar-sized, well-balanced furry friend (or two!) to show her the ropes and keep her company between chew sessions and naptime. She also has yet to meet any human, big or small, that she hasn’t fallen head over paws for! Because of her sweet disposition, we feel Ripa would do perfectly well with do-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age (she is still in the puppy nibbling/ jumping phase). Ripa is curious about cats, but since she is still a puppy, she has yet to form an opinion (positive or negative) about her feline friends. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other pets and children in the household is a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Ripa’s foster family reports she is doing very well with potty training and accidents are few and far between. As with all of our dogs, any adopter must be patient and willing to continue working on potty training success; offering a consistent schedule and working with Ripa on a signal for potty as she acclimates to her new home and surroundings. Ripa does not prefer her crate and can be very vocal about her displeasure, but will eventually concede to snoozing in the crate when is tired. When Ripa is left alone while her foster family happens to be away from home, she is put in a small enclosure with access to her crate and a midday potty break/ play session is provided. For her safety, we recommend a similar crating arrangement when her people are away from home at work or running errands. She does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home.
Medically, Ripa is in great health! She has been spayed, microchipped, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Ripa does have a narrow trachea and should never wear a collar; she should wear a harness as a standard practice. Her new veterinarian should be made aware of her narrow trachea as a smaller intubation tube will be necessary.
Ripa would do best in a quiet, single-family dwelling (as opposed to an apartment-style complex) with a fenced-in yard, so she can explore and sunbathe at her leisure. Because of her current short legs and big puppy belly combo (which we think is ADORABULL!) Ripa is somewhat slow on stairs, but as she grows stairs should be no problem! We think she would integrate well into any pack or environment, but now she would thrive in a home with more than one person to love on her and at least one other similar-sized dog for her to cuddle and shadow. Ideally, she is searching for a family that has a work from home or stay at home parent since she really desires to be around her people as much as possible and the more the time the better. Can’t stay home? No problem! We think Ripa will eventually love going to the office with her new family. She is in need of some basic training before entering the work space but with some consistent work and maturity she should do just fine! If her people are not able to take her to work with them, no problem at all – she’s completely happy sleeping in her enclosure at home for a few hours as long as she has a warm soft blanket, a furry friend, and her people can arrange for a midday potty break for her!
Ripa is a sweet soul that is looking for a family that will include her in all activities, vacations, and day-to-day adventures, with lots of people to dote on her and at least one engaging furry companion to play with. Ripa is still a very young dog that will require a little extra patience as she is guided into what is expected of her. She is a very smart dog that is food motivated so we know she will pick up on things VERY quickly! Ripa will quickly have you wrapped around her little paw!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
