Porter’s Story

Porter came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Porter is the pawfect combination of active and laid-back.  He does have an overall active, playful, extremely curious, outgoing, and super friendly personality around other dogs but can put on display his shy side when around new people and in new environments.   Porter can be bashful at times when meeting new people but seems to warm up quickly. He is unsure of new environments but quickly warms up to new people and places after he can properly scope it out.  Porter is a social butterfly during his time with his furry friends.  He lights up when he sees other dogs and is ready to dive right into playtime.  Porter LOVES all dogs; any size, any gender and any shape.  He is still learning social skills and his eagerness to play can be off putting to some dogs. Yes, we did say he was pretty laid-back… he is overly content cuddling on the couch tuning into his favorite shows (as long as his people are near).  Porter will graciously accept any pets or attention from his beloved people!  When the mood sparks him, Porter will grab a toy and start to play… he is an equal opportunity toy lover!  He enjoys romping all  around the house and exploring every inch of his surroundings. Porter must be supervised at all times while outside and inside as he is a young dog putting his paws and mouth around items that are not dog-approved, still learning the ropes of pet life and doesn’t know danger.  Porter has an affinity for the warmer outdoors and often requests time outside to take in all the smells.  Most of his outdoor time is spent running all about the yard at full speed! His overall rambunctious, social and outgoing behavior as mentioned, can be a bit too much for dogs that are more passive. He is still learning the ropes of pet life, what is considered proper dog behavior and what isn’t; he is a young boy in need of some proper socialization and guidance.  Porter will always look for his people to follow all around, shadow, and cuddle. He insists on having his trusted people always in his view.  He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence.  Porter would thrive in a home with a VERY balanced playful dog (or two) that would match his energy level and have the patience for puppy-like shenanigans. Porter would benefit from emulating proper dog behaviors and learning what is acceptable in his adoptive home.  Porter has an overall fun disposition which allows him to get along with his current furry foster siblings.  Porter has yet to meet any human, big or small, that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for.  He can be shy at first, but after the shyness wears off and the humans gain his trust, Porter is off flirting his way into their hearts.  Because of his lighthearted disposition, we feel Porter will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age.  We also feel Porter would thrive in a multi-dog household as he emulates other dog behaviors and picks up quickly on what is expected in the home and proper dog manners.  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Porter is 99% potty trained!  He is a young dog and has made great progress in such a short time.  Porter does copy the resident dog’s outside habits and is most successful when kept on a strict outside schedule.  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Porter needs a consistent outside routine and a signal for potty.  He is crate trained and does NOT have accidents while crated. He will sleep quietly in his crate when his foster family is away from the home.  Porter would greatly appreciate it if he would be able to share the human bed with his adoptive family as this little boy is a  little snuggle bug.

Medically, Porter is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!

Porter would do great in a home with a fully fenced yard!  He does love to explore the yard, is still learning what can be a danger to him so a house with a completely closed fenced yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  He is quite a people’s French Bulldog, so we think he would love to eventually go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office.  He needs some basic training before entering the workspace but with some consistent work, he would do just fine!  If his people are not able to take him to work with them, no problem at all – he will happily sleep part of the day away as long as he had a furry friend or two to keep him company AND had a midday potty break if left for more than a few hours.  Otherwise, he would enjoy a  part-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent to spend his days with. Porter is a little snuggle bug looking for a home that has a family to dote on him, another dog(s) to help gain his confidence, one he can be included in most family outdoor activities, and can offer him daily structure, enrichment, guidance, and lots of love and attention!  Porter just wants to be close to his people and his furry companions at all times!  Be ready for puppy shenanigans and lots of love and laughter; Porter will make it all worth it!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
