Phoebe’s Story

Phoebe was surrendered to SNAFU Rescue as she was surrendered to a shelter for no fault of her own. She unfortunately was found as a stray and was never claimed. The shelter wanted to find a breed-specific rescue to help find her a loving home to be spoiled and live out her life as happily as possible!

Phoebe is the perfect balance of active and laidback. She adores walks, car rides, backyard zoomies, and couch time (equally). Initially, Phoebe is timid and scared around  new people. She takes a while to warm up and can be extremely sensitive. Her nervous and insecure nature puts up walls until her trust is earned. Phoebe will eventually warm up and  become the sweetest snuggle bug! She adored her foster mom and warmed up to her quickly. Phoebe admires her special human, especially if they offer clear guidance and provide her with affection when she relaxes. She loves her butt scratches and will happily relax in her bed for a massage. When she wants to display her fun-loving side, Phoebe will grab one of her favorite bones out of the toy bin and nestle up on a soft spot on the floor, and nibble away! Plush beds and comfy blankets are Phoebe’s favorite place to settle in.  Phoebe likes clear boundaries otherwise she has been known to become a major clinger with bad FOMO. She is curious about the outdoors and will explore every inch of the yard. Phoebe’s happy place is outside showing off her leash skills on a perfectly suited walk or  just running zoomies all about the yard.

Due to Phoebe’s sensitive and insecure nature she prefers not to share her home with other furry creatures. Phoebe has been known to resource guard anything she considers to be valuable; including food, bones, and her human if not given proper guidance. She is  overly concerned about anyone near her food and will growl if anyone is too close. It is best to make Phoebe move away from an item/food rather than trying to take the item from her. She does best when meals are given in her crate, and she is left alone to eat. In the presence of other animals her growls have escalated, and she has lounged to protect her  prized possession and has bitten a human and one of her furry foster siblings on the leg.  Phoebe felt threatened and therefore acted out; without these triggers (other dogs around  her items) and with proper structure her behavior would not escalate. Phoebe has worked extensively with a trainer and made progress with her resource guarding but is still working on her  insecurities. When resources are removed, she does well with a calm, easy-going dog. Larger groups of dogs or higher energy dogs make her uncomfortable and she will growl to ask for space. She does fine with passing dogs on leash if her person ensures they stay out of her space.

Phoebe is a very smart girl who knows sit, down, and come. She is also a delight to walk on  leash. Phoebe responds well to a “shh” sound when disagreeing with her. She is a quick  learner and does well with routine. Overall, she is a kind, sweet, and low-maintenance Frenchie.

Phoebe has a kind and gentle temperament but due to her resource-guarding  tendencies, she should be placed in a home with teenage children or older or no children at all. Slow introductions and supervision around new people is necessary to be sure they and she are kept safe. Phoebe has a history of being a little troublemaker when around  other dogs so she would be most successful and happiest to remain the only dog/animal in  the home. Although she is laid back in general, she still requires a family willing to provide her proper boundaries and the leadership she needs. She is experiencing lots of change and because of that, she requires firm and consistent leadership, and plenty of time to  adjust to yet another home. Phoebe’s past is unknown to us, and she requires a patient adopter as she learns to trust yet another family. We hope that with time, direction, a  consistent schedule, patience, and a dedicated family Phoebe will be able to let her walls down and enjoy all the perks of pet life!

Phoebe’s foster family happily reports she is fully potty trained. A regular and consistent  schedule will help with her continued potty-training success in her new home. Phoebe will  indicate she needs to go by waiting at the door to the backyard. She is 100% crate-trained  and will happily enter when guided. For her safety, we recommend that she maintain a  similar schedule of crating when her adoptive family leaves the home.

Medically, Phoebe is in great health! She has been spayed, updated on  vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, nares widened, palate shortened, had a dental  cleaning and heartworm tested, and has been given a clean bill of health by our  veterinarian! Phoebe does have VERY low-grade rear luxating patellas (grade 1). Her  patellas should be monitored at her yearly exams. A daily good quality joint supplement  will help keep her joints healthy and she should remain on them in perpetuity.

Phoebe would be happiest in a house with a fenced yard due to her desire to explore and run about in the backyard (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no  yard). Although a fenced-in yard is not required, it is best for her ongoing safety. A multi level home would be okay for Phoebe as she is a champ going up and down stairs. An  apartment-style home would be acceptable as long as her human asks strangers to ignore her and keep other animals out of her space. Phoebe would not enjoy going to the office as her overall timid and anxious personality around new people would be too much for her to handle at this time. She would be completely happy sleeping the day away in her crate while her humans work though a mid-day potty break would be ideal! A part-time work from-home or full-time stay-at-home family member could be a huge bonus for Phoebe.  Again, she has such a sweet, loving, and gentle temperament when she is surrounded by  those she loves. Phoebe is a fun, adorable dog that needs time to earn the trust of others.  Once Phoebe connects with her desired person, she is off to the races showing love and affection. She has been through a lot in her short life and unfortunately had a tough start  and deserves the patience as she acclimates into the pet she is destined to be!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Phoebe, please submit an  adoption application for her today!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
