Phoebe’s Story
Phoebe was surrendered to SNAFU Rescue as she was surrendered to a shelter for no fault of her own. She unfortunately was found as a stray and was never claimed. The shelter wanted to find a breed-specific rescue to help find her a loving home to be spoiled and live out her life as happily as possible!
Phoebe is the perfect balance of active and laidback. She adores walks, car rides, backyard zoomies, and couch time (equally). Initially, Phoebe is timid and scared around new people. She takes a while to warm up and can be a slow burn. Her nervous and protective nature puts up walls until trust is earned. Phoebe will eventually warm up and then she becomes a stage 5 clinger! She adores her foster special foster mom and warmed up to her quickly. Phoebe admires her special human especially if they are willing to offer her some affection. If butt scratchies are on the menu, Phoebe is ordering a double serving! After she super-sized the butt scratches, she will return the affection and will adoringly start to offer some sweet and gentle Frenchie kisses. If she feels extra loving, she will use her paw to demand more attention. It really is about the most darling thing ever; she can be an absolute sweetheart to her chosen person! When she wants to display her fun-loving side, Phoebe will grab one of her favorite bones out of the toy bin and nestle up on a soft spot on the floor, and nibble away! If her favorite spot on her chair is occupied, she is VERY content claiming another comfy surface as her own and napping away! When nap time is over you can find Phoebe searching for her foster mom to see what she is doing; she has a major case of FOMO! She is curious about the outdoors and will explore every inch of the yard being sure she is on guard keeping all possible intruders away! Phoebe’s happy place is outside showing off her leash skills on a perfectly suited walk or just running zoomies all about the yard. She prefers to be the princess of her palace and has a hard time accepting any other furry creatures sharing her space. Phoebe resource guards anything she considers to be a prized possession; including food, bones, and her favorite foster mom. She does not like anyone near her food and will growl if anyone is too close. Her growls have escalated and she has lounged to protect her prized possession and has bitten a human and one of her furry foster siblings on the leg. Phoebe felt threatened and therefore acted out; without these triggers (other dogs around her items) her behavior would not and will not escalate. Phoebe responds well to commands and it is easily fed when she is commanded “down” before her meals. In addition, she is a quick learner and will sit, come and go down. Phoebe also responds well to “no”. She is extremely smart and obedient. Despite her general distaste for other furry creatures around her items, she is a kind, sweet and low-maintenance Frenchie. Phoebe has a kind and gentle temperament but due to her resource-guarding tendencies, she should be placed in a home with teenage children or older or no children at all. Slow introductions and supervision around new people are a must to be sure they and she are kept safe. Phoebe has a history of being a little troublemaker when around other dogs so she would be most successful and happiest to remain the only dog/animal in the home, Although she is really laid back in general she still requires a family willing to provide her proper boundaries and provide the proper leadership she needs. She is experiencing a big change and because of that, she requires firm and consistent leadership, and positive reinforcement to adjust to yet another home. Phoebe’s past is unknown to us and she requires a patient adopter as she learns to trust yet another family. We hope that with time, direction, a consistent schedule, patience, and a dedicated family Phoebe will be able to let her walls down and enjoy all the perks of pet life!
Phoebe’s foster family happily reports she is fully potty trained. A regular and consistent schedule will help with her continued potty training success in her new home. Phoebe will indicate she needs to go by waiting at the door to the backyard. She is 100% crate-trained and will happily enter for a yummy snack. For her safety, we recommend that she maintain a similar schedule when her adoptive family leaves the home.
Medically, Phoebe seems to be in great health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, nares widened, palate shortened, had a dental cleaning and heartworm tested, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Phoebe does have VERY low-grade rear luxating patellas (grade 1). Her patellas should be monitored at her yearly exams. A daily good quality joint supplement will help keep her joints healthy and she should remain on them in perpetuity.
Phoebe would be happiest in a house with a fenced yard due to her desire to explore and run about in the backyard (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard). Although a fenced-in yard is not required, it is best for her ongoing safety. A multi-level home would be great for Phoebe as she is a champ going up and down stairs. An apartment-style home with shared neighbors would not be good for Phoebe as she is she would not like any encounters with other furry beings and can share her voice when she is initially placed in her crate. Phoebe would not be a good dog to take to the office as her overall timid and anxious personality around new people would be too much for her to handle at this time. She would be completely happy sleeping the day away in her crate as long as her people can arrange a mid-day potty break for her! A part-time work-from-home or full-time stay-at-home family member could be a huge bonus for Phoebe. Again, she has such a sweet, loving, and gentle temperament when she is surrounded by those she loves. Phoebe is a really fun, adorable dog that needs time to earn the trust of others. Once Phoebe connects with her desired person she is off to the races showing love and affection. She has been through a lot in her short life and unfortunately had a tough start and deserves the patience as she acclimates into the pet she is destined to be!
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Phoebe, please submit an adoption application for her today!!
disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
