Phil’s Story

Phil came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

When Phil first arrived at the rescue he had a little shy and uneasy side.  He continues to struggle with confidence when he is around new things and still can show his timid side.  Often his curiosity gets the better of him and does want to be close to new people that enter the home and will often follow them all around.  He is a slow burn but once trust is earned Phil is quick to latch on and make a new best friend with his beloved humans.  Phil truly is a Velcro puppy!!!  Be ready for a 24/7 shadow (a really cute shadow that is!).  His overall shy personality around new people and in new situations is so cute and he is making improvements and gaining more and more confidence daily; Phil needs some grace and patience.  Phil is a smart, silly, active, energetic, playful Frenchie boy who loves extra play sessions with his furry friends, dinnertime, and nap time. Phil is all puppy all the time!  He is most comfortable around his furry friends and finds great comfort in their presence.  You always know where Phil is as he is pretty much glued to the resident Frenchie.  All of his timidness is gone when he is playing, wrestling, or napping with them.  You can often find Phil following his furry friends all around the fenced-in yard and exploring all the new smells of the outdoors. When he isn’t burning off some energy outside, you can find him grabbing his favorite nylabone or plush squeaky toy and laying down for a quiet chew session with his foster siblings.  After a play session, Phil will find a soft comfy bed to lay on to grab a much-needed nap and snuggle up close to one of the dogs.  Again, he is shy around new people and new places; needing extra time to acclimate.  Phil is quite smart, and curious, and will take time to trust.  He needs a little extra patience as he is still learning how to “dog” and will require some training in his adoptive home to help him gain some confidence.  As mentioned, he currently lives with several furry foster siblings.  Phil made fast friends with each of them and is thriving in learning what it is like to be a pet!  He matches well with dogs of any shape/size/gender as long as they can match his energy level and expect to have an instant best friend!  He is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership, and positive correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home.  He is extremely smart, a fast learner, and wants to please his humans.  Phil seems to get along well with every human he meets although he is still skittish (around both big and small humans).  Because of this and his overall shy personality, his foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children 5 years or older, in a home with other balanced furry members (THIS IS A MUST FOR PHIL).  Phil finds comfort around other dogs and we believe he would thrive in a home with other pets as he continues to learn to “dog” and would benefit from another furry friend to learn the ropes from.  As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs and supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.  

Phil is still working on potty training.  He is emulating the other dogs by going outside and mimicking their outdoor bathroom habits.  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty.  Phil is crate trained.  He needs a little extra bribing to go inside; a yummy treat usually does the trick!  He has slept in his crate at night and will do so quietly when he can see his humans.  Phil remains accident-free at night so he earned the privilege of sleeping in a human bed!  We know that he would love to continue to share his adoptive family’s bed at night.  For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him as he doesn’t know danger. 

Medically, Phil seems to be in great health!  She has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! 

Phil would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative nature, his skittish nature around anything new, his love for the outdoors, and because he could run if startled (opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  Phil is still mastering the potty training game and is learning to walk on a leash (right now he thinks the leash is a toy).  He is a CHAMP with stairs so a home with multiple levels would be okay for him.  He needs exercise to burn that puppy energy and would love a large yard to run and play with his furry friends.  Since Phil is still learning to trust, and skittish around new people and places, and is still working on potty training we don’t feel an office atmosphere would be good for him quite yet (hopefully soon!).  Phil would much prefer a part-time stay-at-home or work-from-home parent that could spend time with him offering a stable environment to learn to trust.  Ultimately Phil is looking for an extremely patient, low-key, and understanding family that can continue to work with him on his puppy tendencies, a family that is active and can include him in many of their weekly activities, and one with other balanced dogs to help him learn the joys of pet life and one with tons of comfy spots to nap.  He is such an amazing goofy, playful boy and has come so far already and just needs a little extra attention to learn the ways of being a loved and cherished pet.  Anyone that meets Phil falls head-over-paws for his beautiful never ending smile and sweet little face.
