Paulie’s Story
Paulie came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed with a rescue to address his cleft palate. They also wanted him placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.
Meet Paulie Walnuts — aka Paulie, aka Mr. Man, aka Joy Boy!
Paulie is a playful, goofy, and affectionate French Bulldog puppy who brings joy wherever he goes. This spirited little guy has a heart as big as his personality and is always ready to bounce into your day with his signature move — the happier he is, the more his tongue pops out!
Paulie is an exuberant pup who loves to chase and be chased, especially in the backyard where he zips around with his canine foster siblings. While he’s still recovering from recent cleft palate surgery, Paulie has already claimed his favorite fleece braided rope and proudly prances around with it like the fearless, mischievous clown he is. Once he’s fully healed, there’s no doubt he’ll dive into even more toy adventures!
This lively and social boy adores every dog he meets and would thrive in a home with another playful pup. Paulie has also been around children of all ages since he was just three months old, making him a sweet-natured, snuggly companion for a family with kids.
Smart and curious, Paulie knows his name, comes when called inside, and will sit for a treat (though only for about five enthusiastic seconds before bouncing off again!). Like many bright-eyed puppies, he’s in a jumping phase, so continued training will help shape him into a well-mannered adult.
Paulie’s perfect home would include gentle, dog-savvy children, a playful canine buddy, or a family ready to shower him with love, attention, and plenty of playtime. Whether he’s romping with friends, exploring the world around him, or curling up in your lap, Paulie is happiest when he’s part of the fun. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
If you’re looking for a joyful, energetic, and loving companion, Paulie is ready to wiggle, bounce, and snuggle his way right into your heart!
Paulie is well on his way to being housebroken! He’s a smart and eager little guy who has learned to sit at the back door when he needs to go outside. If his people aren’t paying attention, though, Paulie may still have an occasional accident — typical for a young puppy. He’s great at following his foster dog siblings when they all head outside and has picked up on sitting briefly for a treat when he comes back in, thanks to watching and mimicking his foster pack.
Paulie has been sleeping in a crate since he was three months old, and his crate is set up in a large walk-in closet in the master bedroom. He reliably sleeps through the night without accidents and will let out a little howl in the morning to let you know he’s ready to start his day. While we did try giving Paulie a chance to sleep in the human bed, he found it a bit too exciting, had trouble settling down, and ended up annoying the other dogs — so his crate remains his cozy, safe space.
Paulie is 100% crate trained, and for his safety and comfort, we recommend continuing a similar crate and sleeping routine in his adoptive home. During mealtimes, Paulie is fed in a corral to make sure he can enjoy his food without sneaking bites from the other dogs (and vice versa!). Like all puppies, Paulie will need an adopter who is ready to continue working on his potty training with patience, consistency, and a solid routine — as well as helping him learn a signal to ask to go out.
With consistency and guidance, this clever boy will keep making great progress and continue to blossom into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be!
Medically, Paulie seems to be in great health. He has been neutered, nares widended, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given the okay for adoption by our veterinarian! Paulie was born with a cleft palate. He has since had a successful surgery to correct his cleft palate. While Paulie has come a long way, he will need ongoing monitoring to ensure his palate remains healthy and free of complications. This includes regular vet check-ups and keeping an eye out for nasal discharge, sneezing or changes in eating habits. Paulie eats and drinks normally thanks to the surgical repair!
Paulie would thrive in a home with a fenced-in yard, as his playful and curious nature — combined with his lightning-fast zoomies — makes an enclosed space the safest and happiest option for him. A shared-wall home or apartment without a yard wouldn’t be ideal, as Paulie has a big bark when he gets excited! While he’s still working on his potty training, a backyard setup would help him succeed.
Paulie is currently living with empty nesters and two college-aged daughters who visit regularly, and he’s proven himself to be adaptable, whether it’s in a lively family home or tagging along on adventures. He’d love a home with or without kids, but another playful dog would be a big plus. Paulie is already a pro on both carpeted and non-carpeted stairs and enjoys being part of family life, whether that’s at the farmer’s market, the local coffee shop, or even a dog-friendly bar.
At home, Paulie works alongside his foster mom, happily curling up in a dog bed next to her during Zoom calls. On occasion, he also visits her workplace — charming everyone he meets, whether it’s by sitting sweetly on their laps or helping boost office morale. While he’s still too young to spend full days in an office, with continued training, he’ll grow into the perfect little office companion.
Paulie enjoys car rides, bathtime, snuggles, playtime, and making both furry and human friends — all with a flair for the dramatic! This silly, affectionate boy is looking for an active family that can keep him engaged and guide him as he matures. Be ready for the joyful chaos that comes with raising a young dog — Paulie will make every bit of effort worth it!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.

SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
