Patricia’s Story

Patricia came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Meet Patricia — affectionately called Patty — a tender-hearted, sensitive little French Bulldog who is still slowly discovering that the world can be safe, soft, and good to her. Patricia is extremely timid around new people and earns trust in layers… gently… quietly… and at her own pace. It took her a full month to feel secure enough to love and bond with her foster — but once she lets you in, the affection she gives is deep, thoughtful, and genuine.

Where Patty blossoms instantly is with other animals. She adores dogs — big, small, calm, playful — she truly finds joy in their presence. She also loves cats and plays beautifully and respectfully with them. She lights up outside in the yard, running with her furry friends, chasing her jolly ball, and chewing her favorite toys. Animals are her comfort zone, her confidence source, and her emotional support system — they help her feel brave in a way humans cannot (yet).

Patricia is extremely gentle. She has zero aggression, shares space beautifully, and is the kind of dog that takes joy in simply being near other animals. She loves soft places — the couch has become one of her favorite safe landing spots donned with her favorite blanket of course— and she truly thrives with routine, predictability, and calm energy.

Because human energy and noise can overwhelm her, Patty needs an adult-only home or a home with older, respectful teens who understand slow, quiet approaches. Young children would simply be too much hustle and bustle for her. A fenced-in yard will be ideal for her ongoing happiness — it gives her the freedom to run, play, and decompress in the ways she feels safest.

Patricia is still learning that people can be trusted and kind. She will need a patient adopter who celebrates quiet wins — the first full-body wag toward you, the first time she chooses to sit beside you on the couch, the day she seeks your hand instead of stepping back. Those moments are where she shines… and when she shines, she shines bright.

If you’re called to the quiet souls — the ones who need gentle energy, soft love, and steady reassurance — Patricia will reward your patience with something rare and beautiful: honest trust, and a bond built slowly, but forever.

Patricia is still working on her potty training, and her foster family has seen small but steady progress. She will need an adopter who has a consistent routine and the ability to provide midday potty breaks so she can continue learning and building confidence in this area. Unlike some dogs, Patricia does not do well being crated. Being placed in a crate causes her significant anxiety and distress, and she will attempt to rapidly escape, making herself physically sick from the panic. Because of this, her foster home does not crate her and instead provides a safe, dog-secure area when they leave the house.

At night, Patricia sleeps peacefully and quietly in her own soft, cozy human bed — and she does wonderfully as long as she knows the humans she trusts most are nearby. Having that secure, calm environment helps her rest deeply and wake up feeling safe.

With patience, structure, and gentle consistency, Patricia will continue to make strides — and in a home willing to support her needs, she’ll absolutely continue blossoming into a well-mannered girl.

Medically, Patricia seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, had a dental, nares widened, palate shortened, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian. She does suffer from the pesky seasonal allergies.  She would benefit from a daily OTC allergy med and cytopoint injections during high season. Patricia does have low–mid grade luxating patellas in her rear legs, which currently cause her no pain or mobility issues, but they should be monitored over time — and a high-quality joint supplement will be helpful for her long-term joint health and support.

Patricia is a sensitive, timid little soul who will do best in a calm and predictable environment. Right now, a single-story home would be the most comfortable fit for her, though a few stairs wouldn’t be a problem—she’s cautious but willing to learn, and in time she’ll likely tackle a few with ease. A home with minimal stairs is preferred to help protect her knees as she ages. For larger staircases or steep steps, Patricia would absolutely welcome a loving pair of arms to assist her safely up and down.

A securely fenced yard will be important for Patricia, giving her a safe space to explore, stretch her legs, and slowly discover the joys of play without fear of the outside world.

Because Patricia is still building confidence around humans, an adult-only home (or one with older, calm teens) will be the best fit for her. A quiet, low-chaos environment will allow her to continue blooming at her own pace, without the unpredictability of young children or sudden noise and energy. Patricia absolutely requires a home with at least one other dog — ideally a friendly, balanced pup or two — because other animals are what bring her comfort, bravery, and joy. They are her emotional anchor and her source of confidence.

Patricia will also need a fully fenced yard. She is still learning that humans are safe, and she can be a flight risk if startled or unsure. She is not leash trained yet, so a fenced yard is essential for her safety while she continues to learn, decompress, and enjoy playtime outdoors. Homes with limited stairs are preferred, as she does best with easier mobility and predictable spaces.

Patty also needs a home where people are home frequently — someone who works from home, has a flexible schedule, or can bring her to work. She does not like being left alone for long periods, but she actually does wonderfully in a calm office environment, where she can quietly relax and take in the world from a safe, cozy vantage point.

With time, stability, and consistency, Patricia is showing more of her personality each day — gentle little sparks of playfulness, soft joy, and curiosity peeking through as she learns the world doesn’t have to be scary. She’s becoming more confident, slowly but beautifully, and will continue growing in the right home.

If you’re looking for a tender-hearted, quiet companion who will reward patience with honest trust and gradual transformation — Patricia may be the sweetest match.

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Patricia, please submit an adoption application for her today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
