Oreo’s Story

Oreo came into SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release.  Her breeder wanted her placed in a loving home to live the rest of her life as a cherished pet.

Oreo is a smart, active, dramatic, playful, energetic, social, curious Frenchie puppy who enjoys the constant activity of playtime and a comfy spot for naptime. She has the endless enthusiasm of a typical puppy but once all her energy has been exhausted you can find Oreo looking for a comfy dog bed and a furry friend to take a much-needed nap. You can often find her exploring every inch of her foster home and she absolutely adores the outdoors.  Oreo will actively search for his foster parents’ shoes to play a fierce game of keep away with!  She is a complete thief and knows exactly where they are and is fearless when it comes to capturing the prized possession.  When she isn’t burning off some energy, you can find her searching for her beloved bone toys to settle in for a chew session. There is not a bone Oreo will refuse, even those that her foster pack are currently chewing on!  Oreo is a master at coaxing her foster pack into playing! She is extremely brave and fearless when initiating play. She will put her teeth around ANY bone or ball that is commandeered by a resident foster pack member, so she’s still learning manners.  She does really well in responding to the other dog’s queues and will respect their boundaries if they show them to her. Oreo’s favorite thing is to go from one foster brother to the next begging to play, but when she’s finally tired she will put herself to sleep and let nothing distract her from her nap time. Oreo is truly a velcro puppy!  She must be touching her favorite foster brother while sleeping and loves it even more if she’s also touching one of her foster humans while sleeping. She is quite inquisitive and wants to know where everything is in the home so she must be supervised when wandering as she doesn’t know danger.  She currently lives with 2 Frenchie, 1 English Bulldog, 1 Boxer and 1 Lab as foster siblings. She gets along famously with them, but sometimes her puppy energy is too much for a few of them to handle, so she’ll select the ones she knows will always play (youngest Frenchie and big boy Boxer.)  Oreo is just a puppy, is experiencing a big transition, and will need firm leadership, and consistent correction to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in her adoptive home. She is extremely smart, receptive to correction and eager to please her humans so we know she will catch on very quickly!  At 4 months old she’s already learned how to wait patiently for her food to be served. Because she loves her chow so much, she is 5th in line to receive food and knows that she must wait in her spot, sitting until her foster mom tells her it’s her turn. Oreo seems to fall head over paws for every human she meets.  She can get overly excited with young humans however she does well to listen to correction and not nip during play. Her foster family believes she would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children of any age, and a home with a playful furry friend or two.  Oreo really is adaptable and can have fun with her friends, her beloved humans, or all by herself!  As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Oreo is still working on potty training, but over the last month she has shown great improvement.  She is still a puppy, so training is a work in progress.  Her current foster mom does work from home, so she has appreciated the frequent potty breaks throughout the day but is able to hold her potty all through the night, whether sleeping in her kennel, or in bed with her foster parents. She quickly picks up on things, mimics her foster sibling’s behavior, adapts well to routines, and does her business outside when she is asked.  Oreo is still a puppy and with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with her, offering her a consistent schedule and working with her on a signal for potty.  She is crate trained but hasn’t had to use it much in her foster home.  Since Oreo does NOT have accidents overnight, she has been invited to share the big bed in her foster home and we know she would love to share a bed with her adoptive family!  She is such a snuggle bug and will sleep 8 hours straight through the night only moving to snuggle in closer.  Oreo loves the softer things in life so a human bed would be ideal for this little snuggle bug!

Medically, Oreo seems to be in great health.  She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given the okay for adoption by our veterinarian!

Oreo would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to her explorative nature and because she is still potty training (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  A shared-wall style home would not be ideal for Oreo because when she gets going she has quite the bark!  Oreo often gets the Frenchie zoomies and insists on running around like a crazy pup so a good-sized backyard would best fit for this fun-loving gal!  Once Oreo is fully trained we believe she would love to go to the office with her new family since this sweet girl loves to always be around her people!  Overall, Oreo is an amazing little girl!  She enjoys a car ride, snuggle hour, playtime, furry friends, and all people!  This silly girl is looking for an active family that can offer her the stimulation she needs and the guidance to help her develop into an exceptional adult dog.  Be prepared for the needs and requirements of a young dog; Oreo will make it worth it!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
