Oakley’s Story
Oakley came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.
Oakley has a laid-back, chill, and sweet disposition. He can still be a little timid outside, but he’s gained a lot of confidence in his foster home. He is the ultimate snuggler who enjoys doing anything his foster humans are doing, no matter where that is! His favorite pastimes include hanging around his humans, following his humans, sitting on the lap of his humans, and cuddling his humans. Yes, Oakley is very much a Velcro Boston Terrier!!! He is such a friendly, happy boy with a playful spirit who loves extra cuddles and being snuggled. He uses his sweetness, with a little bit of push to get close to any human that will give him attention. Oakley enjoys the company of other animals. He has one foster Boston Terrier brother and has met other dogs his size and done well with them all. Oakley is the pawfect playmate; he graciously shares toys and eats next to his foster brother. The only thing he doesn’t love to do is share “his” human’s attention, so firm leadership will be needed to ensure he continues to understand that humans decide who they want to give attention to, and it’s not always Oakley! When he isn’t super-glued to his beloved human, you can find him trotting around the backyard. Oakley enjoys being outdoors investigating, especially if his foster brother and humans are there with him. He does like to go for walks, although his little legs do tend to get tired, and he’s been known to ask to be carried back home. After a perfect amount of time soaking up the outdoor sunshine, Oakley will search for a warm place to snuggle up or preferably find a lap for a much-needed nap. Did we mention napping and snuggles again?!?! Oakley will always look for his people to partake in a cuddle session during his snooze. He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence if they happen to be in the same room as he is. Oakley’s overall relaxed disposition allows him to get along with his furry foster sibling his size. He has a very happy-go-lucky and laidback temperament which is favorable when he is around other dogs. He has yet to meet any adult or little human that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for! Because of his lighthearted, gentle, and calm disposition, we feel Oakley will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs equal to his size and with dog-savvy, gentle children as, long as they’re big enough to tell him no when he jumps and not allow him to knock them over. He is a small little nugget at 15 pounds, so he isn’t going to knock down a toddler. He has responded very well to training and discipline regarding his jumping. He’s very treat motivated! We also feel Oakley would do great with a fur sibling, but that he’d also be quite fine as an only pet to soak up ALL the attention the humans have to offer. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Oakley is working on potty training and with a consistent schedule we’re happy to report that he’s at about 90%! As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Positive reinforcement is key! Oakley will need a signal for potty. He is 100% crate-trained and does not have any accidents while crated. He sleeps quietly in his crate for a few hours at a time when his foster family is away from the home. We’re sure Oakley would love to share the bed with his beloved humans since he is the ultimate cuddle bug and loves to be with his humans at all times!
Medically, Oakley is in great health! He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! One thing to note is during surgery his heart rate dropped too low and they were not able to finish his dental with extractions, so his forever home will want to keep that in mind and alert their vet, so they’re aware if he ever needs surgery. It will also be very important for his adopter to make sure his teeth are kept clean, to hopefully avoid the need for a future dental. He doesn’t chew on bones much, but maybe with time, he’ll show interest, which will really help keep those pearly whites clean!
Oakley would do great in almost any type of home! Oakley does well with the 8 stairs in his foster home, but at only 15 pounds his legs are pretty short, making a home with a small amount of steps most ideal for him. Due to his love for the outdoors, a fenced-in yard is preferred for him as Oakley doesn’t know danger and could easily wander off. His foster home does not have a fenced yard, and he’s done well on a tie-out. He hasn’t shown any sign of wanting to bolt, as he just hangs out where his humans are, but we know he’d love a fenced-in yard of his own. An apartment-style dwelling would be okay for Oakley as long as it was a ground-level unit. Since Oakley is a laid back, chill little boy we think he would love to go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office (once he is fully potty trained). He would really love it If his family had a part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent as he enjoys the company of his humans SO MUCH. Oakley is a little snuggle bug looking for a family that can offer unlimited lap time, ample couch time, unlimited belly rubs, and lots of love and attention. He will repay all the love with his unwavering loyalty! Oakley is truly the sweetest boy who so desperately wants to be the apple of someone’s eye. He needs attention, proper guidance, and patience in a home with a carefree attitude and a laid-back lifestyle. He cherishes his time with his people on the couch cuddling watching TV and really just being with them all the time. Oakley embodies sweetness, curiosity, and unwavering loyalty. He is such a loving boy who will make his favorite people feel like they are the most important people in the world!!
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Oakley, please submit an adoption application for him.
disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
