Monroe’s Story

Monroe came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Monroe is an active, friendly, affectionate, playful yet chill Frenchie girl who loves to socialize with other dogs and humans alike!  She is the ultimate happy-go-lucky little girl with a sweetheart of a personality!  This exuberant girl is high-spirited (for small amounts of time) with a fondness for nap time. She easily adapts to the mood and energy of the house and finds her energy when the house is moving about and chills when those around her are taking some downtime.  Monroe takes NO TIME to warm up to new people (big, small, and furry) and can quickly and easily make new friends.  She adores playing with the other foster siblings in her foster home; she is fearless when it comes to fun with her furry friends!  Monroe will run endless outdoor zoomies, rolling about in the grass, scratching her back using the cool grass as a brush.  Although Monroe is not a fan of the hot summer temps, she does enjoy her time outside and finds great joy in taking in all the smells and weaving in and out between all the landscaping.  On cooler evenings, you can find Monroe napping the night away on the cool covered patio concrete while her foster family relaxes.  If the mood strikes her, she grabs a chew toy and quietly settles in to nibble away on her favorite Nylabone, Yak Chew, or Bully Stick.  She also adores all toys!  You rarely find her without a small, soft, plus toy; she carries it around like a prized possession!  After she tires of her bone or toy, she will take in a long snooze when the household is quiet and settled.  Make one movement… Monroe is quick to jump up and follow around her favorite humans.  She definitely does not want to miss out on anything; a major case of FOMO (fear of missing out).  She is ALWAYS underfoot, on foot, in between the legs of her favorite humans.  One cannot go anywhere without Monroe in tow!  She will lovingly watch her humans from the ground looking up at them not paying much attention to objects in front of her.  She can be a bit of a trip hazard!!!  Monroe is a typical adorable girl… every day is play, nap, play, nap; wash-rinse-repeat!  She worships all known humans, pretty much any person or pup she can convince to provide her with enjoyment, attention, and treats (she is very food-motivated).  Monroe is well-behaved. gentle and patient around children of all ages but due to her young age, she is still learning manners and like a furry bowling bowl, she enthusiastically will jump to greet them. She will need a patient and understanding family to help her gain confidence around new situations, and people, and learn proper dog commands and what is expected of her in the home. She is still learning manners but has an overall loving and gentle disposition, we feel she would do best in a home with children of any age who are respectful, calm, gentle, and dog savvy.  In addition, we feel Monroe would thrive in a home with a well-balanced furry friend of any size to show her the ropes of pet life as she mimics all dog behaviors (good and bad).  As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Although Monroe is new to potty training; she has made swift and successful progress and is almost fully trained . Her foster family happily reports she is making this look easy when kept on a strict schedule (all accidents are avoided when she is scheduled)!  She knows that potty is for outside and never had a poo accident in her foster home.  A regular and consistent schedule will help with continued potty training in her new home.  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with her.  She would benefit from a signal for potty.  Monroe is crate trained but does have some short bursts of crate anxiety initially upon entering the crate.  She will pant with some anxiety but it does not last longer than a minute or so.  Monroe does NOT like to be hot and temps are kept at a cool range and a fan is offered to her (not on her) so her crate area is cool.  The fan offers her some white noise to keep any anxiety at bay.  Monroe will sleep accident-free for up to 8 hours; once she is awake, she needs to potty and will let you know by starting to whine. She is offered her crate or X-pen (which she prefers) when her foster family happens to be away from the home as long as she has a cool area, her favorite cooling mat, a safe bone, and a comfortable area to snuggle up and nest in. Her foster family believes that Monroe would prefer a smaller dog-safe space (as opposed to a crate) once she is fully potty trained.  A human bed to share would be a HUGE bonus for the sweet girl as she very much enjoys sleeping with her foster family and furry foster brothers.

Medically, Monroe is in great health!   She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/deworming, heartworm tested, microchipped, nares widened, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Monroe does have a very low-grade luxating patella (grade one) and is offered a high quality daily joint supplement to keep her joints lubricated.

Monroe would do well in almost any type of home but since she is still perfecting potty training, still mastering her leash/stairs skills, has an affinity for the outdoors, and loves to run and play, a house with a fenced yard will be preferred for her.  She does have short-squatty legs but this girl can cruise up and down the stairs with ease (at times clumsily).  Monroe is truly a pack animal and needs the love and attention from a family with other furry members to play with!  She adores attention so any person(s) who can offer her love and lots of pets and cuddles the happier Monroe is!  Monroe would love to go to work with her new family if they wanted to take her to the office knowing she will need time to settle into relaxing into a new space (doesn’t take her long at all).  She does well in the car for shorter rides.  She is curious by nature, loves to be around her people and adores all new people and furry creatures. If her people are not able to take her to work with them, no problem!  Monroe would much rather have a work-from-home or stay-at-home parent where she could sleep the day away in a home office or follow her person all around the home!  Monroe would do best with a family that is home more than they are gone.  She has small inconsistent moments of anxiety when her people aren’t near.  She settles down VERY quickly and will lay down to nap or find her X-pen to nibble on her bone.  Having a furry brother or sister to keep her company would help Monroe immensely!

Monroe is a very funny, affectionate, happy, social, curiously playful young dog, so please be ready for the needs and care requirements of a dog just entering pet life (she is very well-adjusted). She is still learning manners but with proper guidance she will quickly adapt to a structured environment.  If you are looking for an addition to your family that needs and wants your family’s attention, love and attention, then Monroe just might be for you and your family!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Monroe, please submit an adoption application for her today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
