Mongo’s Story

Mongo came into the SNAFU Rescue via a private party. To know fault of his own, Mongo’s loving owner wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Mongo is an active, playful, social yet periodically lazy little Frenchie boy.  His favorite pastime is “moving”; he is a BALL of energy.  He will pull everything out of his toy box after his foster mom vacuums as if he is accounting for his items and ensuring they were not ruined in the cleaning exercise!  Mongo is most happy when he is settling in with one of his many toys.  He prefers most toys; especially those that crinkle and squeak and usually will choose the one with the loudest squeaker and squeaks squeaks away!  The squeakers inside the plush toys do give him so much joy but so does settling in quietly with his beloved Nylabone.  He finds nibbling away on his beloved bone a therapeutic exercise. When he isn’t running all about the house with his toys, engaging his furry foster sibling to play (really stealing her toys), you can find Mongo on his perch outside keeping a close eye on the neighborhood.  He considers himself the honorary watchdog of the neighborhood.  He keeps a watchful eye to ensure the happenings of his yard are on the up and up!  Mongo adores all people and desires to be with his people doing whatever they are doing at all times. He positively feeds off their energy and will relax when they relax and will play when they want to play. He finds comfort in snuggling on top of and cuddling next to his favorite person when it is time to relax on the couch and watch TV. Mongo is an equal-opportunity attention seeker!  Big or small he loves them all!  Mongo is still learning that he is built like a bowling ball (he is on a weight-loss journey) and cannot run full speed to get attention from those he adores the most.  Mongo can be quite active but don’t be fooled by all his activity… he does have quite a chill side and can be a Frenchie couch potato.   He is a social butterfly (he has yet to meet a stranger) and seems to get along well with every human he meets (big or small).  Because he is such a playful, kind dog with an overall sweet disposition we think he would do best in a home with children school-aged or older (he would do well with kids in his adoptive home).  Slow introductions and supervision around children are a must to be sure they and he are kept safe.  Mongo does show interest in the resident pup. He is always down for a game of gentle wrestling and steal-yo-toy!   He does cohabitate well with the resident dog in the home and that is why we think he would do well with another balanced dog to learn the ropes from!  Mongo needs a family willing to work with him on learning manners, and the rules of his adoptive home.  He will need a family who is willing to spend extra time with him to help burn off his unlimited energy offer his patience and introduce him slowly to new things to build his confidence.

Mongo’s foster family reports he has been working on potty training and it is a work in progress. He will happily go outside when taken but doesn’t offer a signal to indicate when he has to go.  A regular and consistent schedule will help with his continued potty training success in his new home.  Mongo is crate-trained and is easily bribed with a little “cookie” to coax him inside. Mongo will have occasional accidents in his crate; that is a work in progress for him!  For his safety, we recommend that he is kept on a similar crating schedule when his family is away at work or leaves the home. He does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of him inside the home.

Medically, Mongo seems to be in great health!  He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! He still needs to shed a few pounds; so a healthly diet and exercise is a must for him!

Mongo would be happiest in a house with a yard (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard) since he is still working on potty training and has a lot of energy to burn; oh boy can he run fast!  He does do very well with stairs, so a multi-level home would be okay for him!  We also think he’d love to go work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office (once he is fully potty trained)! He loves to meet new people!  If his people are not able to take him to work with them, no problem – he’s completely happy sleeping the day away as long as his people can arrange a mid-day potty break for him!  Again, he is a fun, energetic, adorably sweet, playful Frenchie who wants to be part of his human’s everyday activities. He loves to play, explore, and investigate what his people might be doing at all times.  Mongo is a true dream boy who has such a goofy personality he would love to share!  He seeks the attention and adoration of his loved humans and would love a LARGE family with children to dote on him; the more hands to pet the better!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
