Milton’s Story

Milton came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

When Milton first arrived in rescue he had a little shy and unsure side.  He still displays his timid side when entering new environments but he does show a lot of interest in being constantly involved in many activities so we believe with time his confidence will grow!  Most times his curiosity gets the better of him and does want to be close to his humans and other furry creatures and will often follow them all around.  His overall, albeit inconsistently, shy personality is so cute and he is making improvements and gaining more and more confidence daily.  Milton is a smart, silly, energetic, playful Frenchie boy who loves extra play sessions with his furry friends, running the fenced-in yard, chewing on his favorite bones, and nap time. Milton is all puppy all the time!  He is most comfortable around his furry friends and his trusted humans and finds great comfort in their presence.  You always know where Milton is as he is pretty much glued to the ones he loves most.  You can often find Milton following his furry friends all around the home and exploring all the new smells of the outdoors.  When he isn’t burning off some energy outside or even inside, you can find him grabbing his favorite chew toy and lying down for a quiet chew session with his foster siblings. As mentioned, he can be timid around new people and new places.  Milton is quite smart, and curious, and will take a bit of time to trust.  He is warming up more quickly every day! He needs a little extra patience as he is still learning how to “dog” and will require some training in his adoptive home to help him gain some confidence.  As mentioned, he currently lives with several furry foster siblings.  Milton made fast friends with each of them and is thriving in learning what it is like to be a pet!  Although he absolutely adores his foster siblings he is still learning personal space but they don’t seem to mind it much at all!   He matches well with dogs of any shape/size/gender as long as they can match his energy level and expect to have an instant best friend!  He is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership, and positive correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home.  He is extremely smart, a fast learner, and wants to please his humans.  Milton seems to get along well with every human (big or small) he meets!  In addition, Milton, like a typical puppy, has many puppy tendencies and should always be supervised when roaming around the home. Because of this and his overall easy-going personality, his foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle children of any age, in a home with other balanced furry members.  Milton finds comfort around other dogs and we believe he would thrive in a home with other pets as he continues to learn to “dog”.   As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs and supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Milton is doing well with potty training and is reported to be about 70% trained.  He is picking up going outside as he is mimicking the other dogs in the home. He is still marking a bit (he currently wears a belly band when indoors and with his recent neuter this behavior should start to wane).  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty. Milton is crate-trained but does much better if the door is left open vs closed.  He has some crate anxiety and will whine inside the crate if the door is locked; he wants to be with those he loves most.   He does sleep in his crate at night and will do so quietly, again with the door open, and will remain in his crate all evening. Once Milton is fully potty trained, we know that he would love to share his adoptive family’s bed at night. For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him as he doesn’t know danger.

Medically, Milton seems to be in great health!  He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Milton, like many Frenchies, does have some seasonal environmental allergies.  A daily allergy pill during high allergy season would greatly help!

Milton would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative nature, his skittish nature around anything new, and his love for the outdoors (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  He is a CHAMP with stairs so a home with multiple levels would be okay for him.  A share-walled home would not be ideal for Milton as he does have some separation anxiety and will whine if not around his people.  He is a busybody and would love a large yard to run and play with his furry friends!  Although a fenced-in yard is preferred for his ongoing safety, Milton would be okay without one if he is offered extra exercise and stimulation secured with a leash and harness AT ALL TIMES.  Since Milton is still working on potty training we don’t feel an office atmosphere would be good for him quite yet but hopefully soon as we believe he would thrive in an office as being around his people gives him great comfort. Ultimately Milton is looking for an extremely patient and understanding family that can continue to work with him on his puppy tendencies, a family that is active and can include him in many of their weekly activities, and one with other balanced dogs to help him learn the joys of pet life and one with tons of comfy spots to nap after a long walk.  He is such an amazing playful boy and has come so far already and just needs a little extra attention to learn the ways of being a loved and cherished pet.  He is such a loving sweet cuddly dog that needs some puppy outlets, love, attention, and direction.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
