Memphis’ Story
Memphis came into SNAFU Rescue via a private party. Her family wanted her to be placed in a loving pet home to be spoiled and live out her life as a cherished pet.
Memphis is an overall semi-active, playful, timid, and chill Boston Terrier girl. She enjoys laying around nibbling on a yummy bone and then finding an open lap to snuggle in. If one of her favorite people is laying on the couch she would much rather join them than bounce about the house. Memphis has her timid disposition on display when she meets new humans or is in a new environment. She will warm up but is more nervous around the little kids; the noise and overall rambunctious nature of smaller children cause her nervousness. Time is Memphis’ friend! When Memphis has a spurt of Boston terrier energy, she will get her little paws on a stuffed toy and carry it around with a very proud look on her cute little face! She doesn’t chew her prized possession, rather she will nibble and self-soothe the fuzzy toy. When a trusted person in her foster home comes in the door, Memphis is quick to grab a plush item and run to them to greet her people showing off the gift she is bringing them. Crinkle toys are her absolute favorite only second to her beloved bones. Every now and again, Memphis will grab a shoe, blanket, or larger child’s toy to bop around with but she NEVER chews or ruins the item; rather she is redirected to a dog-approved toy. Memphis enjoys watching the neighborhood dogs playing through the fence. She does like other dogs and is much more confident when a furry friend is in her space. Memphis is nervous about meeting new furry friends and will require slow introductions to allow her to feel safe. After a few proper introductions, Memphis will welcome the company of her new friend and pal around (she does prefer dogs her size vs larger dogs). Her happy place is anywhere and everywhere with her people doing whatever they are and preferring to be part of it! Memphis finds comfort in her people. She will attempt to gently nibble the finds of those she loves to grab their attention in hopes they have some time to offer her some cuddles, pets, or scratches. She isn’t overly playful and doesn’t need constant stimulation as she does have quite a chill side and is as sweet as can be when cuddled up next to her people. Her favorite place is on the soft couch all cuddled up, pressed into her people while ensuring she gets some affection. As mentioned, Memphis seems to get along well with every human she meets (big or small). Due to her overall timid disposition around loud noises and some resource-guarding temperament (she is NOT aggressive but has growled and barked when something of hers was attempted to be taken by another dog; not a human), we think she would do best in a home that had children 5 years or older if the children are VERY dog savvy, gentle and kind. Slow introductions and supervision around children are a must to be sure they and she are kept safe. Memphis is slowly learning manners and what is expected of her in her foster home. She is experiencing a BIG change and needs a patient family that will offer her the proper guidance she needs to be successful. We believe she would do best and be happiest if placed in a home with a very balanced dog equal to her size that can offer her direction and help her learn how to properly “dog” to build her confidence.
Memphis’ foster family happily reports she is 99.9% potty trained. She did have a few accidents when first entering her foster home but those have stopped. A regular and consistent schedule will help with her continued potty training success in her new home. Memphis is fully crate trained although she doesn’t prefer her crate. She will peacefully nap in her crate when her foster family is not home if offered a yummy snack before entering. For her safety, we recommend a similar crating schedule for her when her family happens to be away from the home as she does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home. Memphis would love to continue to share a bed at night with her adoptive family. She loves to cuddle in her dog bed at the end of the bed as being near her people gives her comfort.
Medically, Memphis seems to be in great health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, had a dental, and heartworm tested, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Memphis would be happiest in a house with a fenced yard (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard) because she loves to wander the yard exploring every inch and taking in all the smells! Memphis also likes to bask in the sunshine and sun her cute little Boston buns! She has mastered the stairs so a home with stairs would be a-okay for this sweet girl. We don’t think Memphis is quite ready for a bustling office environment until she gains the confidence needed, however, she would much rather have a part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent. Again, she is an overall chill girl with bouts of energy! She loves to nibble on a bone, romp around with her favorite toy, prance around the yard, and explore and investigate what her people might be doing. Memphis is as sweet as can be, a total snuggle bug that loves to be held like a baby and will smother those she loves most! She is looking for a low-key family with a furry friend she can emulate that can offer her patience, tons of love, and attention! If you are looking for a loyal friend that you want to call your own, Memphis is your girl! She would be a loyal best friend offering much love and companionship.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
