Maze’s Story

Maze came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Maze is an adorably sweet, kind, loving, laid-back, and most gentle English Bulldog you can meet.  She is extremely social, bursting with cheerfulness.  Maze adores making new acquaintances and her excitement is evident as she welcomes people of any age with a FULL-BODY wiggle!  Maze truly greets everyone who walks through the door with loving paws.  Maze is fast to make friends with every single person and furry being she meets.  You can often find her (really you can ALWAYS find her) at the feet of those she loves the most.  Like literally under their feet; she is a trip hazard! Maze operates at two speeds; either engaging with WrestleMania-worthy play sessions or peacefully snoring away in her favorite plush dog bed.  When she isn’t sleeping the day away, she finds much delight in a brief round of fetch with a tennis ball or cuddling up with her cherished plush toys. She enjoys Bulldog-suited walks, watching the squirrels from the window, and will even take to nibbling on a bone but would rather not share her yummy treat!  Maze can be a bit of an aggressive chewer and will often seek to destroy plush toys; supervision is strongly advised!  She adores a spirited game of chase, taking turns as the pursuer and the pursued. She is such a fun pup!  One of her simplest joys is going on car rides; Maze enjoys an adventure and hopes she can meet new friends!  After a day out on the town, Maze will eagerly jump in the bathtub for her weekly medicated scrub and quickly scoop up the silicone scrubber as she nibbles with enjoyment.  Like a typical Bulldog, Maze is treat-motivated and can be easily bribed with a yummy healthy snack.  After dinner is served, she will follow her humans from the kitchen to the living room to take yet another Bulldog snooze as her foster family settles in for some evening TV time. She will cuddle right up in her bed.  She also loves to cuddle with her humans!  Maze will request some cuddle time in hopes her belly will receive some rubs.  She relishes attention and receiving affection and attention is her daily dream!  Extra pets are what she would say if she could talk!  Maze is a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs but is most interested in the humans that can offer her attention. She formed a strong bond with the resident pug, who is submissive, and they’re practically inseparable!  However, with larger, less submissive dogs, Maze displays some resource-guarding behaviors when it comes to toys.  In situations where the other dog is less reluctant to give up a toy, she may resort to growling or barking to assert her claim. She however does NOT have any guarding issues with food.  Maze is not shy about invading personal space as she prefers to be the center of attention.  She may assert herself by nudging other pets aside to soak up more attention. She is NOT aggressive at all but her behavior can be considered rude by other pets and should be corrected when displayed.   Maze has been in foster care for some time and has learned to acclimate to new surroundings, however,  it is important to remember that she has dealt with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family as she acclimates to a new home.  She currently lives with a small, submissive furry foster sibling.  Given her laid-back and gentle personality, we feel Maze would do great in a home with a passive furry companion as she definitely would benefit from the companionship of a furry friend; as long as she was offered ample attention, Maze would do okay as an only pet.  She relishes the attention of all humans and dogs but we feel she would do best in a home with children of any age who are gentle and dog-savvy. She is a bigger girl and often does not know her size so Maze should always be supervised when she is around children to make sure she and they are kept safe.

Maze is fully potty trained!  She has made great strides and successfully trained herself with the help of her furry foster brother.  A routine, a signal for potty,  some patience, persistence, and consistency are a MUST for her continued success!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able and willing to continue working on potty training as she acclimates to a new home. Maze is fully crate-trained and she is a HUGE fan of her crate especially when bribed with a treat!  Given Maze prefers to be around her humans at all times, we feel she would love to sleep in her soft comfy bed in the bedroom with her adoptive family.

Medically, Maze seems to be in good health. She has been spayed, had bilateral entropion surgery, nares widened, the palate was shortened, tonsils removed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, is microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian!  Maze struggles with severe allergies and given the special topical and oral treatments she needs, she definitely would thrive in a home with previous Bulldog experience.  Maze suffers from severe allergies, which have led to recurring skin infections. To manage these challenges on the advice of her dermatologist, she’s on a regimen of Apoquel, Zyrtec, weekly medicated baths, eye drops, ear rinses, and regular cleaning of her skin folds. Her specialist believes immunotherapy could provide long-term relief for her allergies. Additionally, Maze requires a twice-daily thyroid tab to regulate her thyroid levels. She has been allergy tested and is allergic to quite a few foods; she does well on an OTC food (Purina Pro-Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach) Kibble.  It is recommended she remain on that diet and kept at a healthy weight (Maze came into rescue overweight).

Maze would do best in a home with a fenced yard (not required but preferred) and in a home that has enough space for her size and playful nature.  She does great with stairs and can do a handful of stairs with no issues!   If her adoptive home does not have a fence, she must remain secure with a harness and leash as she does not know danger and will often push the boundaries she learns.  Maze would love to go to the office with her adoptive family as she desires the attention of her humans, is very mellow, and sweet, and loves attention from all people.  She will graciously nap the day away in the office!  If her new family cannot take her to the office- that is okay!  Maze is happy sleeping the day away as long as she has a comfy bed and blanket and her adoptive family can arrange a mid-day potty break for her.  As mentioned, Maze is a Velcro dog and would much rather have her people around as much as possible.  A part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent would be so amazing for her!  Maze is an extremely sweet, gentle, and easy-going Bulldog with so much love to give!  She could use a furry pal to enjoy pet life with but not required. She does require DAILY consistent management that requires a little patience and time; Maze will make it worth it!  She would be a lovable loyal addition to any family!  Maze thrives on companionship, whether it’s dogs or humans.  Maze can be a little mischievous when bored or under-stimulated so an active family would be great for her!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
