Maya’s Story

Maya came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Maya is an easygoing dog who gets along with all humans and dogs alike. She has a very even, mellow temperament that will make her a great family dog!  Maya takes a more relaxed approach to life. She is still figuring out what toys are, so she doesn’t have a ton of play in her (yet). Maya will engage her foster family for some play (just for a few minutes) and then quickly decides she would rather relax for a bit in a soft comfy bed. Very rarely does she initiate the play, but she is coming around and gets a little spunky from time to time!  Maya is experiencing a big change and requires a patient and understanding family that will allow her the space and time she needs to continue to acclimate to pet life!  Maya does prefer her soft comfy bed over everything and is such a super snuggler!  She adores her people over EVERYTHING and is a stage 5 clinger who wants to be around her people 24/7! Maya insists on following her humans all around the house to ensure her people aren’t going anywhere without her!  If her people head for the door she insists on joining you; she will start jumping and prancing around ready to go! Maya LOVES car rides. She will sit in her car seat soaking in all the sites and when she gets tired, she will lie down and grab a much-needed nap. After an afternoon of errands Maya will take in some time outdoors to sun her cute little buns.  She does enjoy a jaunt around the neighborhood showing off her improving leash skills but will stop dead in her tracks if she has other ideas on where she wants to walk. (Typical Frenchie Princess!) Maya prefers a very short jaunt and after a block or two and she will decide to head back and grab yet another nap! If her walks are longer than what she signed up for she is a-okay finishing the stroll comfortably resting in her dog stroller. Maya does not have any other animals in her foster home but before her arrival, she was around other pups.  Given her mellow, calm disposition we feel Maya would do great around other dogs and equally okay as an only pet.  Maya has yet to meet a stranger!   She adores all humans (big and small) and will graciously accept any and all attention for anyone!  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Maya is working on potty training.  She will meander outside and either find some grass or some concrete but must be watched to ensure she goes.  Maya’s accidents are few and far between and with a consistent schedule she will perfect it in no time!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter must be patient and willing to continue working on her potty training success as she acclimates to her new home and surroundings. Maya does great in a crate and is fully crate trained.  When her foster family happens to leave the home Maya naps comfortably and quietly in her kennel.  Since Maya is such a cuddle bug and adores her people, she is trusted to sleep in the family bed at night. She has her favorite blanket between the pillows that she will snuggle up in or even curl up beside one of her foster parents. For her ongoing safety, a similar sleeping and crating schedule should be maintained as Maya does not know danger.

Medically, Maya is in good health!  She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, Heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!  Maya has those pesky Frenchie allergies and Folliculitis which require ongoing allergy management which includes medicated shampoo/wipes, a topical ointment, and ongoing cytopoint injections. She will also need to be kept on a consistent bathing schedule (every 3-4 days) with the medicated shampoo only when she has those pesky allergy flare-ups.

Maya is a very adaptable sweet girl that would do well in almost any type of home.  A home with a fenced-in yard is always a plus as she enjoys sunning her buns, and spending time outdoors, and doesn’t want to walk long distances on her leash.  A multi-level home or an apartment-style home would be okay for her as she does great with stairs!  A ground-level apartment with an adjacent fenced-in area would be best for Maya.  Overall, Maya is a dream dog who would give you all the love anyone could handle (and then some)! This master snuggler is a calm, quiet, loving little girl that would make any family happy!  Maya needs a little extra daily care (allergy experience is a HUGE plus) to keep her allergies at bay but she will make it worth it.  She is looking for a home that has time to spend with her, can include her in a few weekly car rides, and one with many hands to pay her a lot of attention!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
