Marlin’s Story

Marlin found his way into SNAFU via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving pet home to be spoiled, loved, and live out his life as a cherished pet!

Marlin is an overall active, playful, extremely curious, outgoing, and super friendly French Bulldog.  He is the pawfect combination of active and laid-back.  Marlin can be bashful at times when meeting new people but seems to warm up quickly. He is unsure of new environments but quickly warms up to new people and places after he can properly scope it out.  Marlin is a social butterfly during his time at the local dog park.  He lights up when he sees other furry friends and is ready to dive right into playtime.  Yes, we did say he was pretty laid-back… he is overly content cuddling on the couch tuning into his favorite shows, or nibbling on his beloved Benebone (as long as his people are near).  When the mood sparks him, Marlin will grab a toy and start to play… and by play, we mean to destroy it in record time.  Anything with a tag, or shaggy hair, Marvin will maul and rip it to shreds (he must be supervised around toys at all times)! He enjoys romping around the house and exploring every inch of his surroundings. Marlin must be supervised at all times while outside and inside as he is a young dog putting his paws and mouth around items that are not dog-approved, still learning the ropes of pet life and doesn’t know danger.  Marlin has an affinity for the warmer outdoors and often requests time outside to take in all the smells.  Most of his outdoor time is spent at the doggy park.  He does great with other dogs and we feel he would be a great candidate for doggy daycare for continued socialization and to get his energy out!  Marlin will always look for his people to follow all around, shadow, and cuddle. He insists on having his trusted people always in his view.  He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence.  Marlin would thrive in a home with another playful dog that will match his energy level and have the patience for puppy-like shenanigans.  Marlin has an overall fun disposition which allows him to get along with his furry foster siblings. He does not know danger and should always be supervised as he tends to find items he is not supposed to chew on!  He has a very kind temperament which is favorable when he is around other dogs.   Marlin has yet to meet any human, big or small, that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for.  He can be shy at first, but after the shyness wears off and the humans gain his trust, Marlin is off flirting his way into their hearts.  Because of his lighthearted disposition, we feel Marlin will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age.  We also feel Marlin would thrive in a multi-dog household as he emulates other dog behaviors and picks up quickly on what is expected in the home and proper dog manners.  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Marlin is still working on potty training and his accidents are becoming fewer and further between.  He does copy the resident dog’s outside habits but often takes a lot of coercing and monitoring during his potty breaks to ensure he goes.  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Marlin needs a consistent outside routine and a signal for potty.  He is semi-crate trained and does have an occasional accident while crated.  Marlin has extreme crate anxiety (vocal displeasure) and with Houdini out of his crate stopping at nothing to get out; even if it means using his face and mouth to escape.  He does well in his crate when his people are in view. He sleeps in his crate when his foster family happens to be away from the home and will require additional crate training and a heavy-duty crate for his safety.  Marlin would greatly benefit if he would be able to share the human bed with his adoptive family as it would calm the anxiety of this little snuggler.

Medically, Marlin is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! After his second exam, the vet did pick up a VERY QUIET, easily missed heart murmur.  An x-ray was performed of the heart and everything falls within normal ranges. He does have 2 small thoracic vertebrae and is believed will not cause him any long-term issues.  It is recommended that his heart be monitored during normal annual vet visits.  He does have a slightly cloudy eye that stems from an old eye injury.  This does not bother nor cause Marlin any issues.

Marlin would do great in a home with a fully fenced yard!  He does love to explore the yard, is still learning what can be a danger to him, is a door-darter, and has a bit of a prey drive so a house with a completely closed fenced yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling).  Since Marlin is very vocal, a shared-wall home would not be a good fit for him.  He is quite a people’s French Bulldog, so we think he would love to eventually go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office.  He needs some basic training before entering the workspace but with some consistent work, he would do just fine!  If his people are not able to take him to work with them, no problem at all – he would much rather (and be most successful) and greatly benefit from a part-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent.  His separation anxiety gets the best of Marlin and having his people away for long hours is not ideal for him.  During his time alone,  he would do great for short periods as long as he has a furry companion to keep him company and a safe chew toy to occupy his time.  Marlin is a little snuggle bug looking for a home that has a family to dote on him, another dog to help gain his confidence, one he can be included in most family outdoor activities, and can offer him daily walks,  doggy daycare, and lots of love and attention (and patience to master potty training). Marlin just wants to be close to his people at all times!  Be ready for puppy shenanigans and lots of love and laughter; Marlin will make it all worth it!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Marlin, please submit an adoption application for him.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
