Maggie’s Story
Maggie came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Meet Maggie – a gentle, soulful little French Bulldog with a quiet heart and a growing spark. Maggie is a sweet and tender girl who is still learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and at home. Her personality blossoms in calm, predictable environments, and she’s happiest when she’s near her people—whether that means curling up at your feet while you work, rolling around in the grass nearby, or snuggling in for a cozy evening on the couch.
Maggie is still gaining confidence, and she tends to be shy in new situations or with unfamiliar people. When she’s unsure, she may retreat to her kennel—a space where she finds comfort and security. But with patience and a gentle touch, she opens up beautifully. One of her sweetest quirks? She’ll gently place her paw on your hand when she’s ready for love—it’s her quiet little way of asking for affection.
Though calm and laid-back, Maggie has her playful moments too. Occasionally, she’ll get a happy burst of zoomies or even initiate a game of fetch (but only if the mood strikes!). She loves her stuffed toys and enjoys quiet moments spent chewing a bone on her favorite blanket. She’s a loyal, low-key companion who thrives with humans who understand her gentle spirit and are willing to let her move at her own pace.
We haven’t seen any signs of resource guarding from Maggie. She eats peacefully, doesn’t guard toys or food, and happily shares space with the children in her foster home. That said, her foster family always gives her space during meals to ensure she feels safe and relaxed. She currently lives with three young children (ages 4, 7, and 10) and does wonderfully with them. She enjoys their gentle affection and loves being included in their quiet play. However, she can become nervous in high-energy environments or when surrounded by large groups of kids, so a calm, respectful household would be ideal.
Maggie hasn’t had much recent experience with other pets, but based on her positive behavior around several dogs when she first arrived in rescue, we believe she could do very well with a calm, friendly canine companion—especially one who respects her space and helps her build confidence. She may also be perfectly content as your one-and-only cuddle bug, as long as she receives plenty of love and attention. Maggie hasn’t been exposed to cats, birds, or other small animals, so her behavior around them is unknown.
Maggie has been an absolute delight. While she hasn’t required any special care specific to her breed so far, it’s important that her future family understands the unique considerations of flat-faced breeds—such as sensitivity to heat, stress, and overexertion. Prior experience with brachycephalic dogs isn’t necessary, but a willingness to learn and keep her comfortable is essential.
If you’re searching for a quiet, affectionate, and deeply loyal companion who will flourish with gentle care and lots of love, Maggie might be your perfect match. She’s ready to share her heart with a family who will give her the patience, calm, and cuddles she’s been waiting for—and in return, she’ll give you her whole world.
Maggie’s foster family is proud to report that while she’s not fully potty trained yet, she’s making consistent progress every day! One of her big breakthroughs came when she figured out how to navigate the two steps to get outside on her own—since then, she’s had fewer accidents and is starting to understand the routine. Like many dogs still learning the ropes, Maggie thrives with structure and positive reinforcement, and she’s beginning to connect the dots between going outside and earning praise (or a treat!).
Maggie had a small regression during her spay recovery, which is common, but she’s back on track now and improving steadily. Her adoptive family should be ready to maintain a regular and consistent potty schedule and continue reinforcing her good habits with patience and encouragement.
Maggie is fully crate trained and views her crate as a safe haven. She goes into it willingly—whether it’s when her humans are leaving the house or for bedtime—and has never had an accident in her crate. It’s her cozy space where she feels secure and comfortable. While she’s often crated when her foster family is away, she also enjoys snoozing peacefully on the couch next to her foster dad when they’re home.
For her continued safety and comfort, we recommend Maggie be crated when unsupervised or when her family is away from home. Like many rescue pups, she’s still learning how to navigate the world and doesn’t always recognize what’s safe or off-limits. And although she’s more of a quiet snuggler than a bold adventurer, we have no doubt she would happily share a bed with her humans if invited—she’s a natural cuddle buddy just waiting for her spot beside you.
Medically, Maggie seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.
Maggie is an adaptable and sensitive girl who would do well in a variety of home settings, as long as her environment is calm and predictable. Her foster home is a two-story house with 16 steps, and although she was initially unsure about stairs, she has since mastered them with confidence—so a home with stairs is no problem for her! Whether it’s a multi-level home, an apartment, or a townhouse, Maggie is capable of adjusting as long as her new family is patient and supportive as she continues to build her confidence.
While her foster home doesn’t have a fenced yard, Maggie has done great with supervised leash time and has never shown any interest in wandering off. That said, a securely fenced yard would be a bonus for her—it would give her a safe space to explore, sniff around, and occasionally show off her zoomies. A yard isn’t required though, as Maggie is content staying close to her trusted people and does well on walks or short, structured outdoor outings.
Maggie would thrive in a home with someone who works from home, has a flexible schedule, or is home often—she feels most secure when her people are nearby. She’s happy to curl up in a cozy dog bed next to her foster mom’s desk during the day and just be near her person. While she could potentially adapt to going into an office with someone, she would do best in a quiet, low-traffic workplace without too many strangers, as she can become anxious when approached by unfamiliar people.
She’s proven to be respectful, quiet, and extremely sweet with the three children in her foster home, so a family with gentle, respectful kids would be a great match. Maggie could also do well with another calm, confident dog, but she would be just as content as the only dog—as long as she gets plenty of love, reassurance, and snuggles from her people.
What Maggie needs most is a family that will meet her where she’s at: someone who understands that building trust takes time and is willing to go slow, stay consistent, and provide the calm, loving environment she needs to thrive. She doesn’t need a busy lifestyle or constant activity—she just wants a soft place to land, a predictable routine, and a person (or people) she can attach herself to completely.
If you’re looking for a sweet, quiet companion who will reward your patience with unwavering loyalty and gentle affection, Maggie may just be the perfect pup for you.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
