Madison’s Story

Madison came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Madison is a sweet, calm, slightly shy, and quiet little Frenchie girl that loves to be cuddled and snuggled.  She is slightly reserved by nature but has shown calm confidence from day one and is very quick to cuddle her trusted person.  Maddy (as she is affectionately called) will display her outgoing side when she is comfortable by following all the humans and politely “demanding” attention!  She seeks human touch and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her foster family is.  Maddy is an equal opportunity attention seeker; if she sees a hand that isn’t occupied she DEMANDS it becomes busy petting her soft fur (her fur is seriously SO soft.) She also gravitates heavily toward calm children who sit down to pet her. She doesn’t have bursts of energy and excitement but is very alert and actively follows the humans in the home around. Nap time is her favorite time! She will lay on her favorite dog bed, or even go in her cozy kennel to chill out, but as soon as a human heads toward the couch Maddy is up and moving to find her place next to them. There is not a couch or lap that Maddy won’t lay on during her many daily naps or even when tuning into her favorite TV shows.  Maddy loves to take the various bones in the home and take them to her safe spot to chew on them for a few minutes, then she goes right back to the pile to hoard another bone to add to her collection. Maddy is a very balanced and calm Frenchie. She will follow her furry pack around, so she is sure to not miss anything important going on, but she will politely let them be rambunctious and watch from the sidelines. When Madison first arrived at the rescue, she was calm and subdued but searched for human contact right away. She selected a safe zone, where her kennel and pillow were, and hung out there for most of her first week at her foster home. After that first week, she was comfortable enough to hang out with her foster family and pack, only going to her kennel at night to sleep. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet, but rest assured she’s mastering it VERY quickly.  Although she is slowly gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable every day, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family.  She currently lives with a furry foster pack of 5 ranging from 22 to 80 lbs.  She gets along well with all her furry friends. She likes to follow their lead to investigate and is comfortable being next to them for snuggle time on their human’s lap.  Maddy would do well with a furry pal to help her learn the ways of pet life but would also be fine as an only pet if her furever family makes sure she continues to be socialized with other dogs!  She is still learning the ways of pet life, like how to get on the couch without falling off the side when leaning in super hard to get pets, but when it comes to snuggles, she is on her way to being a champ. She loves to be picked up and cuddled. She will lean her entire body into you and look at you with the most adoring and loving stare. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  She has been around toddler children who are dog savvy and was very curious about them, following them around with delight. Maddy would love to have human siblings in her furever home, and even more, hands to pet her with, but she would do well in a home without children as well. Needless to say, this precious sweetheart is darn near bulletproof and will thrive in most types of homes, as long as she has someone to love and cherish her.

Madison’s foster family happily reports she is nearly potty trained!  She continues to make progress with a strict and routine outside schedule. It has helped her to have other furry friends for her to follow and mimic desired behaviors like going potty outside and sitting calmly when waiting for food or a snack. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.  Maddy is fully crate trained (without accidents) and still retreats to her crate on occasion when feeling sleepy or if she is feeling shy in new environments.  Since Maddy is a master snuggler, we know she would love to share her human bed at night.  In her foster home, she would sleep in her crate overnight, but after her early morning potty break, she would gladly join her family in bed and sleep for several more hours. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Maddy does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.

Medically, Maddy seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.

Maddy is very adaptable, and we think she would do well in almost any type of home, but would do best in a house with a fenced yard since she is working on perfecting potty training and does not know danger.  Maddy hasn’t had much practice with stairs, but her foster family is sure she’d master them with more exposure…..and of course treats.  If she was offered a pair of loving arms to carry her up and down a few stairs that would be great for her too!  Work from home or a stay-at-home parent? Maddy would absolutely love that!  She also would be a great candidate to take to the office (once she has perfected potty training).  She is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall calm, quiet lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles. Maddy loves nothing more than to be included in any and all human activities; she is a great ride-along companion as well and has been very relaxed on car rides!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
