Luca’s Story

Luca came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Luca is the definition of a gentle soul — a calm, affectionate, and easygoing French Bulldog with a heart full of love and a nose for comfort. He’s settled into his chill, couch-potato era and is happy to trade in chaos for calm. If you dream of a loyal shadow who will follow you from room to room, keep you company on the couch, and be your constant, quiet companion — Luca might just be your perfect match.

From the moment he wakes up to the moment he tucks in for the night, Luca is all about the cozy life. He adores soft beds, fuzzy blankets, and a sunny spot on the deck where he can take in the breeze and sniff the air. Though he enjoys the outdoors in moderation, Luca isn’t much of a yard explorer — he prefers to take care of his business quickly and head right back inside to his happy place: any soft surface within sight of his people. Luca adores a walk and his leash skills are suburb!

Luca has a wonderfully balanced personality. He’s affectionate and people-oriented without being needy — he’ll gently nudge you for pets or lay his head in your lap, but he’s just as content to nap peacefully nearby while you go about your day. He greets new people with curiosity and friendliness, eager for attention and gentle affection. He’s outgoing without being overwhelming, and his calm, steady energy brings a peaceful presence to any room.

While Luca enjoys a good chew session with his favorite yak cheese or Benebone, toys, and rough play aren’t his style. He’s more of a hoarder when it comes to his prized possessions — not aggressive, just politely firm that they’re his. He gets along wonderfully with his foster brother and engages in short, sweet bursts of play or cuddly snuggle sessions, but he’d be equally content as a solo dog soaking up all the love for himself. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to both other dogs and children are a must to ensure everyone is kept safe.

Luca is beautifully well-behaved in the home — respectful of space, and non-destructive. He’s quiet, observant, and adapts well to household routines. He doesn’t require a lot of exercise or stimulation to be happy — just your presence, a soft bed, and a few loving words go a long way with this tender-hearted boy.

Because Luca values calm and predictability, he would do best in a quieter home with adults or older, dog-savvy children. He is still figuring out pet life, so a patient and gentle family willing to move at his pace will help him continue to blossom. He’s made so much progress in foster care and is ready to find his perfect forever home — one filled with kindness, soft places to land, and people who appreciate the quiet magic of a dog like him.

If you’re looking for a deeply affectionate companion who will love you unconditionally and fit into your home like he’s always belonged there, Luca is your guy. He’s the kind of dog who will make your house feel warmer, your days feel lighter, and your life feels just a little more complete.

Luca is doing amazingly well with potty training. He picked up on outside habits, thanks to his foster sibling!  Thanks to his neuter and consistent schedule, Luca has been nearly accident-free in his foster home for quite some time!  His adoptive family will need to be willing and able to keep him on a regular and consistent schedule for his continued potty training success.  Luca will finish his business quickly so that he can find his way back inside to a soft comfy spot to snuggle.

He has also done great (actually perfect) with crate training and sleeps quietly (and accident-free) in his crate during the day when his foster family happens to leave the home. Given Luca loves soft comfy spots, he would love nothing more than to have his crate appointed with a soft crate pad and blanket. He does well with more space as a small enclosure surrounds his crate allowing for some additional freedom. For his safety, we recommend that he keep a similar crating schedule when his humans are away from the home and/or he is left unsupervised so he is safe and secure while no one is home. He does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of him inside the home.

Medically, Luca seems to be in good health. Luca has been neutered, palate shortened, had a dental with extractions, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, is microchipped, and has been given the ok for adoption by our veterinarian!

Luca is a sweet and resilient little guy who recently underwent surgery to remove a high-grade (Grade 3) mast cell tumor from his scrotum. Due to the size and challenging location of the mass we didn’t expect to but we thankfully achieved clean surgical margins!!! Further pathology (lab used a special stain) confirmed there weren’t any remaining cancer cells. There is a chance the tumor could return to the same area or potentially spread to other parts of his body because of the high-grade mass cell tumro so careful monitoring will be needed going forward. Because this was a high-grade mast cell tumor, there is a higher likelihood of malignancy. However, at this time, we don’t know if the mass was malignant or benign but we do know clean margins were achieved and no cancer cells remain at this time. In addition, pathology clarifed that they did not see any clusters of mast cells; that would be typical of any remaining cancer.  Luca is feeling good post-surgery!!

To help keep him feeling his best, Luca will need ongoing veterinary monitoring every 3 to 6 months, or sooner if his adopter notices any changes—particularly any new or red masses in the same area or shifts in his blood work values. He will also require a few daily medications and supplements to support his long-term health (denamarin, prednisone, chinese herbs, turkey tail).

Luca would do well in almost any type of home but a house (with or without a fenced yard) with little to no stairs will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with many stairs).  His short little stubby legs are not made for staircases!  A ranch-style home would be ideal!  A ground-level apartment would be okay for Luca as long as there is an adjacent quick-to-access fenced-in area where he could quickly do his outside business.  Overall, Luca does not need a home with a fenced-in yard as he doesn’t wander and is quick to go out and come right back in but he MUST be secured with a leash and harness at all times while constantly supervised.  He would prefer a quiet and relaxed low-key family to snuggle up to!  We think he’d love to go to work with his new family as Luca loves to be around his people as long the office environment is quiet.  You are not able to take him to work- not a problem!  He enjoys the comfort of his space and bed at home however a part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family member would be ideal for him.  Luca is quite the homebody; no big adventures for this fellow.  He is completely happy sleeping part of the day away in his kennel as long as his people can arrange a mid-day potty break for him!  Luca does not need much exercise at all and prefers limited yard time and very short walks!  He is coming out of his shell every single day!  Luca will make an amazing companion to someone who wants to be adored by a furry creature!!  He makes everyone feel so special.

Luca is a super sweet boy who is slowing down his lifestyle and is looking for a family to call his very own!  He is learning to trust, and accept affection and is searching for a patient family to teach him the spoiled ways of pet life!  This boy needs and deserves the softest place to land!! He is extremely loving, super goofy, and deserves to be loved and adored like the king he is! He will repay that love by showering his adoptive family with unlimited kisses.  Luca’s future may be a little uncertain, but what’s certain is how much love he has to give. He’ll thrive best in a home committed to his ongoing care and full of snuggles, patience, and joy.

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Luca, please submit an adoption application for him today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
