Louise’s Story

Louise came into the SNAFU Rescue via a commercial breeding auction.  She was scooped up by SNAFU so she could spend the rest of her days in a loving home being a spoiled pet living out her life as happy as she can be!

Louise is a shy, timid, laid-back little Frenchie girl that loves to be near her favorite human at all times.  She has an overall calm disposition and recently started to come more and more out of her shell with the help of her furry foster sister.  Louise started to interact and show interest in other dogs which is helping build her confidence.  Her nature is to follow and emulate the behaviors of other dogs in the home.  Louise will put on display her needy side when she is glued to her favorite human by “demanding” their attention!  She relishes in human touch and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her foster family is.  Even though she gravitates to her favorite person she will still accept attention from others willing to offer it.  She also will plop into an open lap and snuggle in.  Louise MUST BE touching her human at every opportunity she finds.  She is an ultimate shadow dog and a Stage 5 Clinger! She recently has shown interest in nibbling on a bone and hopefully, soon she will learn the joys of toys!  Nap time is her favorite time! She will lie touching her favorite human and veg out as long as they do. Louise does relish her time outside.  She has been crowned the neighborhood watchdog as she soaks up all the happenings of the activity around her. Her mischievous side will surface when she is outside; she will wander to grab hold of mulch, grass or anything she can get her little paws on to place in her mouth.  She must be supervised while outdoors to ensure she doesn’t nibble on anything that could be harmful to her.  Louise is an overall calm, respectful shadow pup looking for direction and attention. When she first arrived at the rescue, she was calm and quiet and immediately for comfort in human contact right away. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet, and learning what pet life is all about.  Although she is slowly gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable every day, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family.  She currently lives with a furry foster sibling equal to her size.  She gets along well with all her furry friends (of any size). She likes to follow their lead and copy their behaviors but doesn’t interact much more than that (yet).  Louise would do well with a furry pal to help her learn the ways of pet life but would also be fine as an only pet!  She enjoys the comforts of her humans and would much rather interact with her people over anything else.  She is still learning the ways of pet life! She loves to be snuggled and cuddled.  As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  She has been around smaller children (and will graciously accept their pets and attention) but given her overall timid nature, and her overall nervousness around loud abrupt noises, older school-aged children who are gentle, calm, and dog-savvy would be okay for her.  Louise would do great with older children in her home (more hands to pet her),  but she would do well in a home without children as well as she gravitates towards her favorite person most times. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure she and they are kept safe.

Louise’s foster family happily reports she is doing great potty training!  She made rapid progress with a strict outside schedule. It has helped her to have a furry friend for her to follow and mimic their outside behaviors. She is in need of a signal for potty and has been doing well bell-training.  Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.  Louise is not a big fan of her crate.  She reluctantly goes in and lets out a whine but settles down quickly.  Louise does spend time in a crate when her humans are away from the home for her ongoing safety.  Since Louise is a great snuggler, we know she would love to continue to share her human bed at night (this is a MUST for Louise). She must be touching her person at all times!  For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Louise does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.

Medically, Louise seems to be in good health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, had a dental, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.  She does suffer from those pesky Frenchie allergies and would benefit from a daily allergy pill in addition to cytopoint injections during high allergy months. Louise had some recurring cysts on her feet (caused by a staph infection) that have been treated but ongoing monitoring in the future is recommended.

Louise is a very adaptable sweet girl that would do well in almost any type of home that her people are home often. She would do great in a house with a fenced yard as she does not know danger, is not leash trained (she freezes and won’t move) and enjoys spending time outside with her family.  A fenced-in yard is NOT required for her but is recommended for her ongoing safety.  She is still learning to conquer larger flights of stairs so a multi-level home wouldn’t be ideal unless she had a pair of loving arms to carry her up and down and a family willing to help guide her to practice using stairs.  A home with shared walls would be okay for Louise as long as it was on the ground floor with an adjacent fenced-in area.  A full-time work-from-home or a stay-at-home parent? Louise would absolutely love and prefer that!  She also would be a great candidate to take to the office as she truly never wants to be away from her people.  She would quietly nap the day away in her comfy bed,  She is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall calm, quiet lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles and lots of attention. Louise loves nothing more than to be around her loved ones as much as humanly possible. She is such a sweet girl that desires and deserves lots of love and attention! She will make the most loving and loyal companion to any person/family!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
