Kottke’s Story

Kottke came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Kottke is an outgoing, active, playful, energetic young Frenchie who enjoys playing with other dogs, playing and exploring outside, and entertaining himself with a loud squeaky stuffed toy or bone.  He fancies a good short walk and thinks that every bark he hears in the distance is an opportunity to make a new friend.  Kottke has NOT met a stranger and will confidently walk up to anyone just for the sniff of it!  Most of his daily activities revolve around play fetch; he may be part retriever!  He will always bring back the toy but may be stubborn about giving it back.  After enough activity to wear him out (all of 20 minutes!), he is looking for a comfy place to rest and snuggle in.  He’s the best of both worlds, he loves to play with furry friends his size if given the opportunity (currently he is the only dog in his foster home), but also loves to cuddle right in between the legs of his foster family when he’s done; say goodbye to personal space when Kottke is ready to snuggle. You can often find him exploring every inch of his foster home, looking for a bone to settle in with for a good long chew session. He has been very well socialized with humans and recently had the opportunity to spend some time with furry friends. He was very excited to meet other dogs and did great with them.   After batting around a toy or two, Kottke will again snuggle up on the couch to recharge for the next play session. Kottke has a very laid-back and chill disposition and has adapted to pet life very well. Snuggling and relaxing are a few of his favorite things to do, besides fetch!   He does have an inquisitive side. He wants to know where everything is in the home and where noises are coming from so he must be supervised when wandering indoors and outdoors, as he is still a young dog that doesn’t know danger. He ALWAYS wants to be with his people and we know with other dogs too! Kottke is a young dog and is experiencing a big transition and will need good leadership to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected of him in his adoptive home. He is extremely smart and eager to please his humans so we know he will catch on very quickly! Kottke seems to fall head over paws for every human he meets. His foster family believes he would be best in a home with a playful furry friend and would do great with kids in the home, or just fine without kids as well. His foster home doesn’t have small children, but they feel he’d be great with them. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Kottke is still working on potty training and occasionally has accidents when he is roaming the house but those accidents are VERY few and far between. Again, he is a smart young dog and quickly picks up on things, and an opportunity to mimic a future furry sibling’s behavior would be great! Kottke adapts quickly and well to routines.  Kottke is still a young dog and as with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty/going outside. He does great in a crate. He will go in with a treat and a safe bone/toy and does well in his crate at night and when his foster family happens to be away from the home.  He would also love to share a bed with his adoptive family! Kottke is such a snuggle bug and he must be as close as possible to those he loves the most. For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him.

Medically, Kottke seems to be in great health.  He has been neutered, nares widened, palate shortened, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, heartworm tested, and has been given the okay for adoption by our veterinarian.

Kottke would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his curious, explorative nature and because he is still perfecting potty training (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard). A lower-level apartment with an attached fenced-in area would be okay for him as he is an overall quiet dog. Kottke does great with steps in his foster home but they are still in work in progress at times and may need a little assistance around larger staircases. He is still a young dog who is still learning boundaries, so he must be supervised while romping around the yard and sunning his Frenchie buns. Overall, Kottke is just the sweetest little love bug! He enjoys any attention, snuggle hour, a good game of fetch, short walks, and all people. Ultimately, he is looking for a home that has the time and patience to help guide him into a balanced adult dog, a home with another furry sibling or two, and one that isn’t gone long hours as he will need a potty break during the day.

Overall, Kottke is just a boy looking for a doting family to call his very own.  He would adapt well to an office setting, a work-from-home or stay-at-home family member, or spending part of the day in a crate relaxing.  He has bouts of energy but mostly is happy chilling with those he loves the most… as close to them as possible!  Kottke is a carefree, happy little gremlin who can adjust to a busy household where he can be included in most of the activities or with a relaxed family that spends the evening relaxing outside or on the couch watching a good movie.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
