Jewel’s Story
Jewel came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Jewel isn’t just a name—it’s a promise of love, warmth, and a heart full of snuggles! This little lady may not be the rough-and-tumble, toy-chasing type, but she more than makes up for it with her sweet, affectionate nature. Jewel is a true cuddle connoisseur, always on the lookout for a cozy lap, a soft blanket, or a warm spot next to her favorite humans (or doggy friends!). If you’re searching for a snuggle buddy who will make every day feel like a lazy Sunday, Jewel is the one for you.
Jewel is a laid-back sweetheart who sometimes needs a little extra reassurance in new situations. She can be timid at first, but as long as her human is nearby, she gains confidence quickly. Whether it’s a new place, a new routine, or an unfamiliar noise, all Jewel needs is a gentle voice and a reassuring hand to let her know she’s safe. Once she settles in, she’s an absolute lovebug who just wants to be close to her people.
Jewel’s idea of a perfect day? Snuggling up on the couch, wrapped in a cozy blanket, with her favorite human giving her endless pets. She will gently nuzzle her way into your arms, making sure she’s always part of the love fest. While she’s interested in chew bones, toys don’t hold her attention for long—she much prefers human companionship.
Jewel is a friendly girl who gets along well with other dogs, especially those her size. Her Boston Terrier foster brother has been a great companion, and she enjoys snuggling up next to him. While she’s not overly playful, she does have a bit of a mischievous streak—if her foster brother is playing with a toy, she’ll casually stroll over and claim it as her own! Thankfully, she’s happy to let her humans take it back with no fuss.
When Jewel first arrived, she showed some mild resource guarding of her people, giving little growls when her foster brother got too close during cuddle time. But with gentle reassurance and guidance, she’s learned that love isn’t a limited resource. Now, instead of guarding, she simply wiggles her way into the center of attention; the circle of love! A home that understands this behavior and continues to set gentle boundaries will help her continue to feel secure and included.
While Jewel may be a snuggle queen inside the house, outside, she’s got a bit of a hunter’s spirit. She has a high prey drive and will eagerly stalk and chase rabbits, birds, and anything that dares to run from her. Because of this, a home without small animals (rabbits, hamsters, etc.) is best. Interestingly, she didn’t seem overly interested in the cat at a foster sleepover, but given her instincts, a slow and careful introduction would be necessary if a cat is in the home.
Jewel is a true people-dog who thrives on love and attention. She has done well with children of all ages and enjoys being around anyone who is happy to pet and snuggle with her. She has even had sleepovers with kids and did wonderfully! She’s not picky—big humans, little humans, as long as they’re gentle and loving, she’s happy to be by their side.
Jewel does prefer having companionship, whether from humans or another calm dog. She showed some signs of stress when her foster brother left for a vet appointment, so a family that is home often or has another dog to keep her company would be ideal. She is crate-trained but may need some patience when left alone, as she thrives on connection and reassurance.
Jewel would do best in a home that loves snuggling and wants an affectionate, people-oriented pup. She needs a family who can provide reassurance and patience as she continues to gain confidence, and one that has another friendly, calm dog or is home often to keep her company. A home that understands her mild resource guarding past and is willing to set gentle boundaries will help her thrive. A secure yard where she can safely observe the world (and maybe chase a bunny or two!) would be perfect, but no small pets due to her high prey drive. Slow introductions to both furry friends and children is a must to ensure safety for all parties.
Jewel’s foster family happily reports she is fully potty trained. A regular and consistent schedule will help with her continued potty training success in her new home. The cold winter is didn’t offer any help but she overcame the cold and is still doing amazing! Jewel is fully crate trained and remains accident free! She will peacefully nap in her crate when her foster family is not home and at bedtime. For her safety, we recommend a similar crating schedule for her as when her family happens to be away from the home as she does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home. Jewel would love to share a bed at night with her adoptive family. She loves to cuddle and press against you for comfort and safety.
Medically, Jewel seems to be in great health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, had a dental with extractions, heartworm tested and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Jewel would thrive in any home as long as she has a loving human who treats her like the queen she is! Whether it’s a house with a fenced yard or an apartment, she’s happy as long as she’s with her people. While a fenced yard isn’t required but would be best for her ongoing safety. So if there’s no fence, she’ll need to be on a leash—this little lady is a runner! Jewel will need some leash work… she is not a fan of it! She would do great with all types of families, but if there are young kids who tend to leave doors open, extra caution will be needed because Jewel won’t hesitate to dash off on an adventure.
Jewel is the ultimate companion, always by your side no matter what you’re doing. Cooking in the kitchen? She’s right there on the rug, keeping you company. Lounging on the couch? She’s already warming up your spot. Even when you’re in the shower, she’ll patiently wait right outside the door. At night, she prefers to be snuggled up in bed with her human, soaking up all the love and warmth she can get.
She does well in her kennel for a few hours while her foster goes into the office, but she’d much rather be out and about with her people. She is low-key and easygoing but enjoys her walks and absolutely loves when her human works from home. If her future family wants to take her to the office, she’d be the perfect work buddy—she’s quiet, calm, and happy to nap in a cozy dog bed or even curl up on a lap. In her foster home, she sleeps peacefully in the dog bed by the desk.
Jewel would be an excellent companion for any family who wants a loving, affectionate dog to dote on, as long as they’re willing to continue working with her on leash skills. She is fantastic with stairs, can easily jump onto furniture, and is always ready to snuggle. She is a truly happy, lovable, and sweet girl who will shower her family with endless love and companionship!
Jewel is truly special! With a heart of gold and nothing but love to give, she adores cuddling, sneaking in kisses, and making you feel like the best thing ever. She’s a gentle soul who deserves to be pampered and loved for the rest of her life. She’s an absolute gem and will bring endless joy to her adoptive family.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
