Jenga’s Story
Jenga came into the SNAFU Rescue via an owner surrender to a shelter. The shelter wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her golden years being a spoiled pet.
Meet Jenga — a gentle, soulful senior girl with a heart full of love and a quiet wish: a soft place to land where she can spend her golden years feeling safe, cherished, and never alone again.
Jenga’s story is one that tugs at the heart. Once adopted from the very shelter she found herself returned to, through no fault of her own, she lost the only home she knew when her beloved person became ill. It was clear to everyone who met her that this sweet girl deserved so much more than a kennel in her later years—she deserves comfort, consistency, and a human to call her own for the rest of her days.
Jenga is the definition of a companion dog. She doesn’t need chaos, toys, or constant attention—she just wants you. Her favorite place in the world is right beside her person, soaking up affection, leaning in close, and settling in for hours of peaceful cuddles. If you’re looking for a shadow, a snuggle buddy, and a loyal little soul who will quietly adore you every single day, Jenga is your girl.
Because of her age and limited vision, Jenga can be sensitive to change. New environments or anything out of place can make her feel unsure, and when she’s scared, she may freeze and need time and gentle reassurance to feel safe again. But once she knows she’s secure, her loving personality shines through in the most beautiful way. She thrives in calm, predictable environments where life moves at a slower, softer pace.
Jenga enjoys her walks and will happily accompany her person on little adventures, taking in the world at her own pace. She’s not interested in dog parks or busy, overstimulating settings—she much prefers quiet strolls and familiar routines. And while toys don’t really capture her attention (likely due to her vision), she does enjoy a good bone to chew on while relaxing nearby.
Jenga absolutely adores people and forms deep bonds with her humans. She would do best in an adult-only home or one with older, respectful children who understand her need for calm and space. She is not a fan of other dogs and prefers to be the only pet in the home, where she can truly relax and not feel the need to protect her belongings or her space. As the queen of her castle, she blossoms when there are no stressors triggering her guarding behaviors—just love, routine, and a peaceful environment.
Her ideal home is one filled with patience, compassion, and understanding of a senior dog’s needs. Someone who will move at her pace, offer her reassurance when she feels unsure, and most importantly, give her the unwavering love she has always given so freely in return.
Jenga may be in her golden years, but her capacity to love is endless. She doesn’t need a lifetime—she just needs someone to make the rest of hers the best it can be.
If you have room in your heart and home for a quiet, devoted companion who will treasure every moment by your side, Jenga is waiting to meet you.
Jenga is a wonderfully easy, low-maintenance girl when it comes to her routine—and she’s fully potty trained! With a consistent schedule and a little guidance in a new environment, she transitions beautifully and understands exactly what’s expected of her.
While Jenga can tolerate a crate for short periods, it’s not her favorite place. Because of her sensitivity and some barrier-related anxiety, she can become quite distressed when the crate door is closed. This likely stems from her deep desire to stay close to her people and not be left alone again. Instead, Jenga would do best in a small, safe, dog-proofed area of the home when her humans need to step out—somewhere she can feel secure without the added stress of confinement.
When it comes to downtime, Jenga is an absolute dream. She lives for cozy moments and will happily curl up beside you on the couch, soaking in every bit of closeness and comfort. She sleeps soundly when near her person and would love nothing more than to share a bed (or a very close bedside setup) with her forever human. Being near you is where she feels safest—and happiest.
For Jenga to truly thrive, her ideal home will offer consistency, patience, and plenty of companionship. A predictable routine, a calm environment, and lots of snuggles will go a long way in helping her feel secure and settled. With love, understanding, and a soft place to rest her head, Jenga will reward her person with the kind of quiet, devoted companionship only a senior dog can give.
Medically, Jenga is doing quite well for a sweet senior girl and has been thoughtfully cared for to ensure she’s as comfortable as possible in this stage of her life. She has been spayed, had a dental, is up to date on her vaccinations and deworming, microchipped, and has been lovingly cleared by our veterinarian for adoption.
As an aging dog, Jenga does have a few gentle considerations that come with her golden years. She has low vision, which can make new or changing environments feel a little confusing at times, and she may exhibit small circling behaviors or head movements as she navigates the world around her. There are also signs of normal age-related cognitive changes, and she may need a bit of extra patience and reassurance as she settles into a new home.
Jenga also has hemivertebrae, along with some mild neurological involvement, so it will be important for her forever family to help keep her safe by limiting activities like jumping off furniture. Providing ramps, steps, or simply offering a helping hand will go a long way in keeping her comfortable and supported.
She does experience some anxiety, which is very understandable given the transitions she’s faced, but she is currently supported with medication (Prozac) to help her feel more at ease.
Overall, Jenga is a soft, sensitive soul who simply needs a calm, predictable environment and a loving human to guide her through this chapter. With a little extra care and a lot of heart, she will continue to enjoy her days surrounded by comfort, safety, and love.
Jenga is the definition of a gentle, devoted companion—soft, soulful, and simply looking for a quiet home where she can be deeply loved in her golden years.
She doesn’t need much to be happy. A fenced yard isn’t necessary, and she’s not looking for big adventures or busy outings. What matters most to Jenga is being close to her person, feeling safe, and having a calm, predictable environment where she can truly relax. Short, leisurely walks and lots of cozy downtime by your side are her perfect pace.
Because of her low vision and age-related changes, Jenga may need a little extra support navigating her surroundings. In homes with multiple stairs, she’ll benefit from gentle assistance to keep her safe and comfortable. She thrives in spaces that are easy to move around in, where things stay relatively consistent and familiar.
Jenga would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can fully settle without the stress of sharing her space. She is truly happiest in a peaceful household that understands and appreciates the needs of a senior dog—one that’s ready to offer patience, compassion, and lots of love.
This sweet girl is incredibly people-oriented and would flourish in a home where someone is around most of the time. A stay-at-home or work-from-home person would be ideal, as Jenga finds comfort in companionship and does not do well being left alone for long hours. She isn’t asking for constant activity—just your presence, your reassurance, and a warm place beside you.
Jenga may be in the later chapter of her life, but what she offers is something truly special—the kind of quiet, unconditional love that only a senior dog can give. If you’re ready to open your heart to a super senior and give her the soft, spoiled life she deserves, Jenga will be your most loyal and loving little shadow.
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Jenga, please submit an adoption application for her today!!
disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
