Hugo’s Story
Hugo came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.
Looking for a laidback lovebug to lounge the days away with? Meet Hugo, the ultimate cuddle connoisseur! This gentle, easygoing Frenchie is happiest when he’s close to his people—on the couch, in your lap, or snuggled right up next to you. Wherever you go, Hugo is close behind—he’s proudly a Velcro dog, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hugo has a friendly, super chill, laidback, gentle disposition. He is the ultimate snuggle bug who enjoys couch time! His favorite pastimes include hanging around his humans, following his humans, sitting on the lap of his humans, and cuddling his humans. Yes, Hugo is very much a Velcro Frenchie!!! He is such a friendly, happy boy who loves extra cuddles and being snuggled. Hugo enjoys the company of other animals but tends to stand back and watch. With more time he may enjoy some play time with other dogs, but he hasn’t shown that in his foster home yet. He gingerly will commandeer the lap or hands of the person offering affection.
When he’s not cuddled up indoors, Hugo enjoys a peaceful trot around the yard and a bit of sunbathing before heading back in for—you guessed it—another nap with his favorite humans. Although he prefers constant attention from his human, he doesn’t beg, whine, or make demands. After a perfect amount of time soaking up the outdoor sunshine, Hugo will search for a warm place to snuggle up or preferably find a lap for a much-needed nap. Did we mention napping and snuggles again?!?! Hugo will always look for his people to partake in a cuddle session during his snooze. He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence if they happen to be in the same room as he is.
Hugo’s overall relaxed disposition allows him to get along with his furry foster sibling. He mostly has a very kind temperament which is favorable when he is around other dogs. He has yet to meet any human that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for! Because of his lighthearted, gentle, and calm disposition, we feel Hugo will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs, or equally as well as an only dog. He would also do very well with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children over the age of 10. We also feel Hugo would thrive with other balanced furry creatures but would also do fine being the only dog since he loves humans more than anything. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Hugo is working on potty training! This is a whole new world to him, and he is making some progress every single day!! He has had no accidents in the kennel and is willing to wear a belly band while he continues to learn that potting is only meant to happen outside. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Hugo will need a signal for potty. He is 100% crate trained. He sleeps in his crate at night quietly and is also fine crated when someone is home, although his foster family allows him to be with them when they are home. With time we’re sure Hugo would love to share the bed with his beloved humans though once he’s acclimated and has learned his new family’s routines.
Medically, Hugo is in great health! He has been neutered, microchipped, nares widened, had a dental with extractions, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Hugo would do great in any type of home! Hugo has mastered steps and has the cutest little bunny hop to go up and down quickly. Hugo could live in pretty much any type of home. He does enjoy the fenced-in backyard but would be fine without it if his family is okay taking him on multiple walks every day. For him it’s all about being with his family and most favorite human as much as possible! A multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling would be okay for Hugo. Since Hugo is a quiet, chill little boy, we think he would love to go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office once he is fully potty trained. He would really love it If his family had a part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent as he enjoys the company of his humans SO MUCH. Hugo is a little snuggle bug looking for a family that can offer unlimited lap time, allow him to be held like a baby (he loves to give hugs and nuzzles his face in close), offer many belly scratches, and have lots of love and attention. He will repay all the love with his unwavering loyalty! Hugo is truly the sweetest boy that so desperately wants to be the apple of someone’s eye. He needs attention, proper guidance, and patience in a home with a carefree attitude and lifestyle. He cherishes his time with his people on the couch cuddling watching TV and really just being with them all the time. Hugo is an easy-going sweet, squishy-soft, and loving boy that will make his favorite people feel like they are the most important people in the world!!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.

SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
