Hooch’s Story
Hooch came into the SNAFU Rescue via an owner surrender to no fault of his own. His previous owner wanted him to be placed in a loving home where someone had more time for him than they did.
Hooch is the ultimate easygoing gentleman, a true “Frenchman” with charm, charisma, and a heart full of love! This handsome boy is the definition of adaptable—whether the day calls for playtime in the yard, a leisurely stroll, or a lazy afternoon snoozing in the sunshine, Hooch is happy to go with the flow. His temperament is as smooth as they come—nothing rattles him, and he takes everything in stride with a calm, confident attitude.
Hooch is a social butterfly who absolutely adores people, both big and small. Hooch is quickly off flirting his way into their hearts. He thrives on human companionship and soaks up every bit of love and attention that comes his way. If you’re sitting down, expect Hooch to be right there next to you, pressing in for cuddles and belly rubs. He’s incredibly gentle and affectionate, making him a perfect snuggle buddy for quiet nights at home. But don’t let his love for relaxation fool you—when the energy picks up, Hooch is more than ready to match the vibe! He’s playful, fun-loving, and enjoys romping around the yard or engaging in a game of chase. He’s still learning the ropes of interactive play with other dogs but is starting to show his goofy, playful side more and more.
While Hooch is generally great with other dogs, he benefits from slow introductions, as he tends to be a bit unsure at first. He’s not one for unnecessary drama and prefers to keep things harmonious, though he can be a little possessive of his humans. He just loves his people so much that he sometimes forgets there’s enough love to go around! With gentle redirection, he’s learning that sharing affection is just part of being in a family.
Hooch is an absolute dream with children. He’s patient, tolerant, and unfazed by the excitement and noise that often comes with little ones. Whether it’s kids running around, toys clattering, or a busy household full of movement, Hooch takes it all in stride, happy just to be near his people. His kind and gentle nature make him an excellent fit for a family with kids who will shower him with love (and maybe a few extra treats). Because of his lighthearted disposition, we feel Hooch will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
This lovable Frenchton is the perfect blend of relaxed and playful, making him an easy addition to any home. He would be perfectly happy as an only dog, soaking up all the attention, but he could also thrive with a well-matched canine companion after a slow introduction. He’s happiest when surrounded by his people, so a family that’s home often or ready to include him in their daily lives would be ideal.
Hooch is fully potty trained!! He will patiently and quietly wait by the back dog until someone graciously opens it and accompanies him outside. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Hooch needs a consistent outside routine and a signal for potty. He is crate trained and will enter his crate upon command. He does let out a little whine when entering but that is short lived. It definitely is not a desired place but is tolerated. Hooch sleeps in his crate when his foster family happens to be away from the home. We believe Hooch would be a great candidate (once acclimated) to be trusted in a small dog safe room when left in the home. Hooch would greatly benefit if he would be able to share the human bed with his adoptive family as it would be the icing on the cake for this little snuggler.
Medically, Hooch is in great health! He has been neutered, microchipped, had a dental with extractions, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! He does suffer from the pesky seasonal allergies. Hooch would benefit from a daily OTC allergy med and possibly a cytopoint injection during high allergy months.
Hooch would thrive in a home with a fully fenced yard where he can safely explore to his heart’s content. He’s a curious little adventurer who is still learning about potential dangers, and with his door-darting tendencies, a securely enclosed yard is a must! This charming Frenchman is also a bit of an escape artist—he’s quick and quite the digger—so he should never be left unattended outdoors.
Apartment living could work just fine for Hooch, as he’s well-behaved and adaptable, but a home with shared walls may not be ideal if there is not a nearby adjacent fenced in yard for him to use. He has no trouble navigating stairs and is an easygoing guy who will adjust beautifully to most living situations, as long as he has his people close by.
Hooch is a social butterfly who absolutely adores human companionship. The more people to love on him, the better! He’d make an excellent office dog, happy to curl up on a lap or snooze at your feet while you work. Car rides? He’s all in! If his new family wanted to take him along for daily adventures, he’d be the happiest co-pilot around. While he’d do best with a flexible work-from-home family member, this isn’t a requirement—he just craves human connection and would benefit from a home where he isn’t left alone for long hours.
If he does need to spend time alone, having a furry companion and a good chew toy will help keep him content. Hooch is looking for a loving family that will include him in their daily lives, take him on fun outings, and give him plenty of affection. He’d love daily walks, outdoor activities, and maybe even some doggy daycare to keep him entertained. Be ready for tons of shenanigans, endless snuggles, and lots of laughter—Hooch will make every moment with him absolutely worth it!
With his affectionate heart, unshakable temperament, and loving personality, Hooch is ready to become someone’s best friend, cuddle buddy, and loyal sidekick. If you’re looking for a dog who will seamlessly fit into your life, bringing both playfulness and calm companionship, Hooch is your guy!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.

SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
