Harvey’s Story

Harvey came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Harvey is an active, playful, outgoing, energetic, social, fun-loving, curious Boston Terrier puppy who enjoys playing with other dogs, snuggling and wrestling with his furry pals, and chewing on his toys.  Harvey loves running all around the yard and taking in some sunshine when the weather allows.  Once the weather warms up,  Harvey would be a great candidate for daily walks and will enjoy showing off his improving leash skills.  He has the enthusiasm of a typical puppy for playtime and naptime. You can often find him exploring every inch of his foster home and backyard.  He loves to be outside when it’s nice and sunny as long as his people are with him! When it is time to come inside, he will search for the nearest human or pup and grab a much-needed puppy snooze. He is the ULTIMATE cuddle bug and insists on being a snuggle pal during his many dog naps throughout the day.  Once his big beautiful eyes open, Harvey is ready for the game to begin (again).  If his furry friends are romping around the home showing off their playful nature, that is a cue for Harvey to join in! He can also entertain himself with a bone or toy. Nibbling on anything dog-friendly can occupy him for quite some time.  Harvey is truly content playing all by himself (with his people near) but very much welcomes others in his playtime.  He does have a curious nature and wants to know where everything is in the home and where noises are coming from so he must be supervised when wandering indoors as he doesn’t know danger.  He becomes a Velcro dog when he is sleepy and wants to cuddle!  His puppy cuddles are just the best! Harvey is just a puppy, is experiencing a big transition, and will need leadership, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home. He is extremely smart, receptive to correction, and eager to please his humans so we know he will catch on very quickly!  Harvey seems to fall head over paws for every human he meets. He still has a habit of jumping and nibbling on fingers when greeting new people so caution is needed around very small children so they are not knocked over or startled by his puppy teeth.  Harvey does easily direct with a crinkle or squeaky toy; he is such a smart boy!  However, extra supervision is needed around children and puppies!  His foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children of any age, and in a home with a playful friend.  Harvey is adaptable and can have fun with his friends, his beloved humans, or all by himself (during playtime)!  As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Harvey is still working on potty training.  He is still a puppy so training is a work in progress.  He quickly picks up on things, mimics his foster sibling’s behavior, and adapts well to routines.  Harvey is still a puppy and with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty/going outside. He is 100% crate trained (enters on his own when a yummy treat is involved) and is working on consistently keeping his crate clean and dry (his accidents are few and far between). Harvey does sleep quietly in his crate when his foster family happens to leave the home but insists on sharing a human bed at night.  Harvey does NOT have accidents overnight in the human bed and we think he would love to continue to share a bed with his adoptive family; this is a MUST for Harvey!  He is such a snuggle bug!! For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him.

Medically, Harvey seems to be in great health.  He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given the okay for adoption by our veterinarian.

Harvey would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative nature because he is still potty-training (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard) and because he is still a puppy and has tons of puppy energy.  Harvey loves to spend time outdoors running around the backyard and is very active. He is a champ at conquering the stairs so a multi-level home would be okay for him.  A nice size fully fenced-in yard and someone willing and committed to daily walks and activities would be best for him. He likes to be busy!  Harvey has quite the voice on him, a share-walled apartment or townhome would not suit Harvey at all.  Overall, Harvey is an amazing little boy!  He enjoys any attention, snuggle hour, playtime, furry friends, and all people. He would very much enjoy heading to the office in due time with his family if they can take him.  Harvey first needs to have a better understanding of manners and what is expected in an office environment.  If his people are not able to take him to the office, that’s okay!  He would much rather have a work-from-home or a full-time/part-time stay-at-home parent. He does very well in his crate for part of the day!   He enjoys his time with his people so much!  This adorable little boy is looking for an active family that can offer him the stimulation he needs and the guidance to help him develop from puppy to adult dog.  Be prepared for the needs and requirements of a young dog; this little love bug will make it worth it!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
