Hans’ Story

Hans found himself at the SNAFU Rescue via a private party. His owner could no longer provide him care and wanted him to find a loving home to live the rest of his life as a cherished and spoiled pet.

Hans is a playful boy who enjoys bouts of laziness throughout the day; just the pawfect balance of active and lazy! He enjoys going on walks, playing tug, and exploring the outdoors but he is also content to sit on laps, chew bones, and nap away in the sunshine. Like a typical Bulldog, he enjoys all toys especially when they squeak! When he isn’t begging for a game of fetch he will find himself barking at the cat and following his foster mom around like it is his JOB (someone has to keep her on task).

During the work week, Hans will snore his way through the boring meetings, beg for a snuggle session on a warm lap, and nibble on a bone to pass the time until the 5 pm bell rings. After a long hard day at the in-home office, Hans will insist that playtime starts immediately! His favorite game at the moment (and will beg) is an endless game of tug-of-war. If a suitor isn’t available, Hans will settle in with a bouncy ball or even just chew away on his beloved antler. He is always ready to play with his beloved humans or even all by himself. He has boundless energy while outdoors and can be found repeatedly exploring the perimeter of the fenced yard.

The Wisconsin winters are cold but that doesn’t stop Hans from limited outside time especially walks! When he isn’t burning off some energy outside, you can find him searching for a bone to take in a chewing session. After a relaxing chew session, Hans will settle inside for some much-needed chill time with his humans. He is such a busy boy but do not be fooled by his endless activity…he is true to his Bulldog breed and enjoys a good nap and even will settle in for some TV time!

Hans currently lives with a few furry foster siblings. While he is a bit gruff when first meeting new dogs and humans, with the proper advocacy, guidance and patience he will warm up to any new creatures and can be sweet and loving (he really is just a mama’s boy). He is getting used to the company of other dogs and the concessions made to be able to cohabitate. Hans has only met dogs that are larger than him and did well with laid back females, males are hit or miss.  He acts like a big dog in a little body and he can be a bit rude initially by getting in other dogs faces for too long or sniffing the backend (which often is interrupted as impolite and can escalate into over arousal if not properly monitored). For this reason, Hans has to be SLOWLY introduced to all dogs. He does best meeting new dogs outside and/or on walks.

Hans could do well in a home with the perfect match but it would have to be PERFECT. Hans would do well as an only pet getting his social interaction from outdoor meetings. Hans is NOT cat friendly.   Hans is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership and consistent positive reinforcement to help him adjust into his adoptive home. He is food motivated so positive reinforcement will be extremely beneficial. Hans seems to get along well with every adult human he meets (he does take some time to warm up). He has not been exposed to children but given his propensity to get tense and posture when someone is close to him while he is chewing his favorite antlers, we believed he would do best with teenage children or in a home with no children at all. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Hans is 100% potty trained and has his routine down to the exact science! As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to offer him a consistent schedule to ensure continued success. Hans is “mostly” crate trained and does resist going in sometimes and will let out a bark especially if he knows the resident pups are out and about. His crate barking has decreased dramatically since getting acclimated into his foster home and we are hopeful that it also will be temporary in his adoptive home. He is crated when unsupervised as he will try and eat every on the floor; he is a vacuum in a dog’s body! For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule is kept for him.

Medically, Hans seems to be in good health! He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! He does suffer from those typical Frenchie seasonal allergies. A daily allergy pill would be beneficial in addition to a Cytopoint injection during those high allergy season months. He does have a low grade luxating patella on his back right leg. It will need to be monitored for any further issues and be kept on a daily high-quality joint supplement.

Hans would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his love for the outdoors, his desire to play fetch and his overall uncertainty around unfamiliar animals/humans (opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard). He does great with stairs but should be limited due to his luxating patella (he doesn’t use them very often but he is able to go up and down with ease). He begs for exercise and a large yard to run and play would be the best fit for this fun-loving boy! We don’t think he would be a good dog to take into an office environment as he can get overwhelmed and since he is a curious little guy who likes to be up in everyone’s business! He would rather happily sleep part of the day away as long as his crate is appointed with a plus mat and blanket and a dog-walker that comes by once a day to burn some energy off.

Hans desires a family with an active lifestyle of which he can be included; he loves the car and is an amazing copilot! Hans is an adaptable dog that does well with structure, boundaries and both physical and mental exercise. He is seeking a family/person that is detail-oriented, patient, loving and willing to keep Hans accountable to being the best version of himself! If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Hans, please submit an adoption application for him today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
