Hannah’s Story
Hannah came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Hannah is playful, overly happy, a lover of all people, and just a little social butterfly! She is overly enthusiastic when hanging out with people and will dive into whatever they are doing. You can often find Hannah Banana (as she is affectionately called in her foster home) following her humans all around the home like it is her job in hopes someone will decide it’s TV time. She loves nothing more than to be near her people, snuggled up close as they watch television all the while receiving an unlimited amount of belly scratches. After some time relaxing, Hannah will find some energy and run all around to play! She will grab a few favorite stuffed, plush animals and nibble on them for a bit before she eventually uses them as a chin pillow for a quick nap. She will soon perk up again and search for her three furry foster siblings. Banana LOVE LOVES her friends. She really has done a lovely job integrating herself into their pack. If they are running around, she will dive right in! Hannah will need proper introductions to new dogs as she does need some time to warm up and get used to a new furry creature in her personal space. When unknown dogs get too close to her face she can snap at them as a warning they are too close. She has not exhibited this behavior to the foster siblings only to those dogs outside of her surroundings. Hannah can entertain herself as long as she has her human near but would love nothing more than another furry friend to engage in some fun and to learn from. Hannah must be supervised when wandering the home as she doesn’t know danger and is still learning the ropes of what is expected of her in her home. She has been known to push her way to the front of the pack when cookies and pets are being offered. Hannah will slither her way in (NOT at all in an aggressive way) and this unwanted behavior is currently being addressed. She is still learning how to be a pet and will need leadership, and consistent correction to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and be offered patience and positive reinforcement. She is extremely smart so we know Banana will be eager to learn, receptive to correction, and responsive to positive reinforcement. Hannah absolutely gets along well with every human he meets (big or small)! She recently attended a SNAFU Rescue event and did really well with an overwhelming number of different people, including several small children and children 10-15 years old. Her foster family believes she would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, school-aged children and a home with a balanced dog to learn the ropes from (she would also do great without children in her home). Another furry pal for Banana is a huge plus and a must! As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Hannah is progressing with potty training; it is a work in progress. She is picking up on things and does her business more consistently when she goes outside with her foster friends. She requires a signal for potty as she may have accidents if she cannot quickly grab the attention of her humans she will wander away when she needs to go. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with her, offering her a consistent schedule and working with her on a signal for potty. Hannah is crate trained, although she does not like her crate. If she can see her furry foster friends she is more comfortable and will not cry. Banana does sleep quietly at night as she shares a human bed and loves to snuggle in with her adoptive family. For her safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for Hannah.
Medically, Hannah seems to be in good health! She has been spayed, had a dental, nares widened, tonsils removed, microchipped, updated on vaccinations/dewormings and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Hannah had some long-term ear infection issues in the past so regular cleaning and monitoring will be important.
Hannah would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to her still potty training (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard) but because Hannah does okay with the stairs, is an adaptive dog, an apartment on the ground level with a tall fenced-in area would be okay too as long as her adoptive family is willing to offer Hannah a proper amount of outside time. She loves to explore when the weather is nice. We know Hannah Banana would thrive in a home with people that can offer her lots of attention and one with another dog for her to play with, emulate, and keep her company. We also think Hannah would love to go to the office with her new family as she just loves to be around her people and receive attention (once she is fully potty trained)! She is an experienced “work-from-home” dog, a seasoned zoom participant, doesn’t gossip, and keeps her workspace neat and tidy. You can’t take her to the office- that’s okay! She would much rather have a stay-at-home or a full-time or part-time work-from-home parent. Hannah is very adaptive so a low-key family that likes evenings on the deck in the warmer months or evening couch time should be a-okay for her! She also would love an active family as long as she can be included in most of their activities. Ultimately, Hannah Banana is a very exuberant, happy girl that could fit into any home that can offer her the love and attention she needs and deserves. She has so much love to give!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
