Grover’s Story
Grover found his way into SNAFU via a private party. Grover’s medical issues needed to be addressed and his previous owners wanted to find him a loving home to be spoiled and to receive the proper medical care for the rest of his life.
Grover is an overall active, playful, extremely curious, outgoing, and super friendly French Bulldog. He is the pawfect combination of active and laid-back. Grover hasn’t met a human, big or small, that he hasn’t completely fallen head over heels for! Grover is a social butterfly with all humans. Yes, we did say he was pretty laid-back… he is overly content cuddling on the couch tuning into his favorite shows, or nibbling on a favorite bone (as long as his people are near). When the mood sparks him, Grover will grab a toy and start to play. He especially likes those bones but does like to play fetch with a tennis ball as well. He enjoys romping around the house and exploring every inch of his surroundings. Grover has an affinity for the warmer outdoors and often requests time outside to take in all the smells. He does well with other dogs, although he isn’t a fan if they want to get close and personal right away, and will bark to tell them he’s not comfortable. He has also shown some human guarding behaviors at our meet and greet events. He thinks all the humans and their hands are there for him, and if other furry friends get too close to “his humans” he will attempt to back them off and keep the humans all to himself. Grover will allow correction when his behavior is not appropriate, so it will be important for his forever home to be consistent with their expectations of him when other dogs want human attention too. Grover will always look for his people to follow all around, shadow, and cuddle. He insists on having his trusted people always in his view. He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence, especially with children. His foster home has 5 children ranging in age from 5 months to 7 years and he is involved in putting them to bed every night. This is a job he takes very seriously! Grover would thrive in a home with another balanced, submissive, and playful dog that would match his energy level. Grover has a large breed furry foster brother that he does very well with. As a young dog, he does not know danger and should always be supervised. He has a very kind and cuddly temperament which is favorable when he is around the people he loves, especially his human foster siblings. Grover has yet to meet any human, big or small, that he hasn’t fallen head over paws for. Grover makes it his mission to flirt with new people and is a pro at cuddling his way into their hearts. Because of his lighthearted disposition, we feel Grover will do perfectly well with other balanced dogs and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age. We also feel Grover would do just fine as an only dog as well, but having children in his forever home is a must for him. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Grover is urinary and fecal incontinent. He appears to have the urge to go at times and will squat for both. Other times, he is seemingly unaware of leaking or spraying. He wears a belly band and does very well getting this changed regularly. Grover has had an MRI of his spine which revealed a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid. This results in a “wonky walk” as well as incontinence; he was likely born with this way. The buildup of fluid could damage his spinal cord even more over time causing further incontinence and mobility issues but there’s also a potential there will be no progression, and this will forever be his “normal”. Grover is currently on several daily medications (Prilosec, Proin and Gabapentin) and a steroid to help with the incontinence, his mobility, and any potential pain he may have. The cost of these monthly medications runs around ~$35-40. He also has a raw diet to help his bowel movement consistency and schedule (Cost is ~ $35 per month in the Omaha area). The raw diet has been a game-changer for him! Mobility-wise, he can “bunny hop” his way up and down stairs. He loves to run and play and doesn’t know he is any “different”. There are many unknowns with Grover, and the perfect family will accept him as he is and be ready to help him through any further medical needs. Grover will require semi-annual visits to a neurologist (he has an established neurologist in the Omaha area; the visit is $157.) If adopted outside of the Omaha area, Grover will be required to have a neurologist within a 3-hour radius of his adoptive home. Please research a nearby neurologist before applying for Grover; this is a MUST for his future care. Grover is also on a daily joint supplement, cranberry supplement, and takes a daily Zyrtec to manage those pesky environmental allergies. He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
As mentioned, Grover has both fecal and urinary incontinence. He will require a few belly band changes a day. Grover isn’t an overall fan of his crate. He is trusted in a dog-safe room and will sleep away on his comfy bed awaiting his family to return. He shares the space with his foster sibling and enjoys the companionship of another furry creature while his foster family is away.
Grover would do great in a home with a fully fenced yard! He does love to explore the yard and is still learning what can be a danger to him so a completely closed fenced yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling). He is quite a people’s French Bulldog, so we think he would love to eventually go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office. He needs some basic training before entering the workspace but with some consistent work, he would do just fine! If his people are not able to take him to work with them, no problem at all – he is fine to sleep part of the day away waiting for his humans to return. Grover will require a mid-day belly band change to avoid any potential UTIs. A part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family would be AWESOME! During his time alone, he would do great with a furry companion to keep him company and a safe chew toy to occupy his time. Grover is a little snuggle bug looking for a home that has a family to dote on him and one where he can be included in most family outdoor activities and lots of love and attention. He is a very active, loving boy who adores children more than anything. He is super playful, and fun-loving and would make an amazing family pet to a loving family that has just an extra few minutes a day to properly care for his special needs. He makes the little extra above and beyond so easy!!! This cute little boy just wants to be close to his people at all times and insists on bringing a smile to the faces of those he loves most! Be ready for puppy shenanigans and lots of love and laughter; Grover will make it all worth it!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
