Gretta’s Story

Gretta came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Gretta is overall a calm and laid-back girl, but she certainly has bursts of playful energy when the mood strikes! While she is content with lounging, Gretta enjoys her playtime and has a special fondness for exploring the toy box. She’ll excitedly rummage through it, often emptying it completely as she searches for her favorite bone or a squeaky toy. Once she has worked through her bout of energy, Gretta is more than happy to settle down in her cozy dog bed, where she can snore the time away without a care in the world. Lately, though, she has discovered a new love—cuddling up on the couch with her humans. Now, any opportunity to doze off next to you on the couch is something Gretta eagerly embraces. She has a deeply affectionate and clingy nature, always wanting to be near her favorite people. Her attachment is strong—Gretta is a true Velcro dog!

Her list of favorite things is simple but speaks to her sweet personality: her people always come first, followed by a good bone, a soft squeaky toy, and a comfy bed. However, her newfound love for the couch might be creeping up that list! Above all, Gretta’s heart lies with being surrounded by her family. She feels immense comfort in knowing her humans are nearby, and she’s happiest when she can be close to them, whether that means lounging beside them or simply following them from room to room. If you’re in the kitchen or relaxing in front of the TV, Gretta will be right there with you, quietly keeping you company.

Gretta also enjoys spending time outside, and one of her favorite activities is sunbathing on the patio. If there’s a warm spot in the sun, Gretta will find it and settle in, happily soaking up the rays for hours. It’s her little moment of bliss! Another one of Gretta’s favorite pastimes is taking car rides. Whether you’re running errands or taking a leisurely drive, Gretta will quickly find a comfortable spot, lie down, and fall right to sleep while you chauffeur her around. She’s a relaxed traveler who finds peace in the rhythm of the road.

When it comes to her social life, Gretta would do well either as an only dog or with a calm furry companion. She currently lives with another French bulldog who is laid-back and easygoing. While her foster sibling isn’t one to engage in play often, Gretta respects that and doesn’t push the issue. However, every now and then, she’ll try to initiate a playful interaction, and sometimes her foster sister will join in. Though Gretta enjoys a bit of play, she’s equally content to nap alongside her furry friend. When she meets new dogs, Gretta does get excited, though she has shown a bit of nervousness around those who bark at her. Because of this, her ideal dog companion would be calm and gentle, respecting her need for space while also being open to the occasional playful romp. A furry friend who enjoys peaceful naps as much as she does would be perfect for her!

If Gretta were to be an only dog, she would thrive as long as her new family includes her in all of their daily activities. She loves being with her people above all else, and having her humans nearby brings her a sense of security and joy. She’ll follow you around the house, eager to be part of whatever you’re doing, whether it’s watching TV, preparing a meal, or simply lounging around.

Gretta hasn’t been tested around children, but her sweet and gentle nature leads us to believe she would do well with kids, especially older, dog-savvy children who can respect her space and enjoy playing with her. Because she is still learning some manners, like not jumping up when she gets excited or licking your ears and feet when she’s feeling affectionate, a home with calm, dog-savvy children who understand how to engage with her would be ideal. Gretta often run to doors when she sees them open so being mindful of this would be very important to keep her safe.  She would be thrilled to have “her person” to follow around and shower with affection. Slow introductions and supervision around children are a must to be sure they and she are kept safe.

Gretta’s foster family happily reports she is doing fantastic with potty training.  She has come leaps and bounds since she arrived in rescue. Gretta has the luxury of 2 work-from-home parents that are able to take her outside every couple of hours.  She quickly picks up on the outdoor cue of a sliding glass door and responds well to “go potty”. A strict, regular, and consistent schedule will help with her continued potty training success in her new home.  She is 100% crate trained and spends just a few hours a day there.  She is offered a yummy snack and is guided inside easily.  Gretta remains completely accident-free in her crate.  She is only crated when her family is away from the home.  For her safety, we recommend that she maintain a similar schedule when her adoptive family leaves the home.  Althought she currently sleeps in her crate at night, since Gretta adores her humans so much, we know she would love to share a human bed at night with her adoptive family.

Medically, Gretta seems to be in great health!  She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, nares widened, palates shortened, had a dental with extractions and heartworm tested, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! She does suffer from those pesky Frenchie seasonal allergies and is offered a daily OTC allergy pill and would benefit from a cytopoint injection during high allergy months.  She has a low grade rear luxating pâtella that does no cause her any issues whatsoever but should be monitored by her veterinarian at her yearly exams.

Gretta would be happiest in a house with a fenced yard due to her adoration for the outdoors (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  She has mastered going up and down stairs so a multi-level home would be okay for her!  An apartment-style home with a ground-level unit with an adjacent fenced-in yard would be okay for her. A fenced-in yard is not a requirement but preferred for her ongoing safety.  Gretta has mastered walking on a leash so if kept secured with a leash and harness at all times Gretta could forgo a fully fenced-in area. She would LOVE a large window to gaze out of; she could spend hours watching the happenings of those that pass by.  Gretta would be a good dog to take to the office if she is able. She is such a quiet pup and would gladly cuddle up in a soft bed and snooze the day away with an occasional nibble on her bone.  She requests to be on the office welcoming committee as she adores attention from everyone she meets!  Most importantly, Gretta prefers not to be away from her people, her favorite humans make her the happiest!  She also would be completely happy sleeping part of the day away in her crate as long as her people can arrange a mid-day potty break for her!  A part or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family member would be ideal for her!!!  Gretta is a truly sweet and loyal girl who craves the companionship of her humans. She is still learning some things, but her loving personality and gentle temperament make her a joy to be around. Whether she’s cuddled up on the couch, napping in a sunbeam, or taking a peaceful car ride, Gretta’s heart belongs with her people, and she’s ready to be the perfect companion in a calm, caring home. Gretta is looking for a family who will give her the love, attention, and cozy naps she deserves, and in return, she’ll provide endless affection and loyalty.

Gretta would thrive in a home where she had lots of love, attention, toys and bones to choose from, outdoor time, and a furry playmate.  She would do great with or without kids and would LOVE to have a part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family member if possible.  Again, she has such a sweet, loving, and gentle temperament when she is surrounded by those she loves.  Gretta is a really fun, playful ball of energy with a pawfectly chill side as well!  She is such an adorable dog that wants to be around her people and her furry friends as much as she can and be included in most family adventures!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Gretta, please submit an adoption application for her today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
