Greta’s Story

Greta came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Greta came into SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release.  Her breeder wanted her placed in a loving pet home and to live her life as a cherished family member.

Greta is a sweet, calm, quiet, timid, and slightly nervous little Frenchie girl that loves to be near her most favorite human at all times.  She is a laid-back little girl, who loves to be where her favorite human is, but does see new people as scary and when in her space threatening; she will bark at them out of fright.  When in her known space, Greta is very comfortable and will display her outgoing and her active side!  Greta likes to explore outside if the weather permits and is used to going outside secured on a leash since her foster family’s yard is not fenced. Greta is shy and timid at first, but does warm up to people, politely asking for pets. If she gets too overwhelmed, she will distance herself for a bit, many times going to her safe house (her crate), but then will come to hang out with her foster family once she’s settled down. When Greta isn’t shadowing her foster mom everywhere she goes you can find her destroying a plush toy, playing with a squeaky toy or getting some treats showing off her good “sit”. Her favorite toys are her mini-pig and candy toy (both rubber); she will gather all the toys she can (smaller the better) and house them near/in her crate.  She thinks all the toys are just for her; she has ZERO issues with her toys being taken away.  When Greta first arrived at the rescue, she was pretty timid and scared, but that has slowly gotten better with each day. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet.  Although she is gaining more confidence daily and becoming more comfortable, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family.  She currently lives with a calm and submissive male Boston Terrier and does well with him, but she can show some undesired “ownership” of her favorite human and toys that her forever family will need to watch for and immediately correct the unwanted behavior. Greta enjoys napping with her favorite human or in her safe and comfy crate.  She enjoys the company of her human and frequently is found asking for attention and pets. She will allow others to pet her but has definitely attached more to her foster mom than any other human. Greta does play with her furry foster brother!  They wrestle, run around and chase toys. She is still learning how to “dog” and the play can get to be too much as she doesn’t have a stop button!  It is important that she is offered a time out when the play gets to be too much.  She enjoys her furry foster brother’s company, so her foster family does think she would be fine with another calm and submissive dog in her home, so they can show her the ropes, or would do fine as an only dog as well.  She is still learning the ways of pet life and finds comfort in being with her human, but living with one other balanced, gentle, passive dog will certainly help her continue to learn and grow into the pampered pet she’s meant to be.  As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  She can get easily overwhelmed by loud, abrupt noises so her foster family believes she’d do best in a home with older calm, do-savvy, respectful children, but also fine with no kids in the home. She should always be supervised when she is around children to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Greta’s foster family happily reports she is nearly potty trained!  She made fast progress and picked it up quickly following her foster brother and a regimented outside routine!  She has learned to go to the door to go out, so she’s very close to signaling. Her foster family does work away from the home, so she’s currently trained to crate from her morning and afternoon naps, with outdoor time before work, at lunchtime, and after work, in addition to being let out every hour when they are home with her. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.  Greta is fully crate trained and sleeps quietly in her crate when her foster family is away, as well as overnight. Her foster family has not let her sleep in their bed, but they do believe she would love that if her forever family would allow it…since she’s such a snuggle bug with her favorite human. For her safety, we recommend a similar crating arrangement is suggested when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Greta does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.

Medically, Greta seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.

Greta would adapt to many different types of homes, but due to her short legs (that can be challenging using the stairs) we do think she’d do best in a home without a lot of steps. A fenced-in yard is preferred for Greta because she likes to roam and explore the outdoors. Even with a fenced yard, she should be monitored at all times because she did try to dig out of a home with a fenced yard that she was visiting.  She’s continuing to work on her leash skills and is making good progress. A part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family member would be ideal for Greta; she would just love that!!! We don’t think she’d be a great candidate to take to work because she does bark when faced with new people.  Perhaps with time she can overcome this fear and be able to enter the workplace.  If her people don’t work from home, no problem at all – she’s completely happy sleeping the day away as long as she has a warm soft blanket, and her people can arrange for a mid-day potty break for her!  Greta is looking for a family to call her very own, one with several family members to dote on her and one that will offer her unlimited snuggles.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
