Goose’s Story

Goose was surrendered to the SNAFU rescue to no fault of his own.   Well, one day, Goose, ever the goofball, mistook the mail truck for his personal limo. With the tenacity of a marathon runner, he chased it all the way to the post office. The mailman, amused by his antics, dropped him off at the shelter, where he then found SNAFU and he’s been making everyone laugh ever since. Goose is not just funny, he’s loyal, friendly, and bursting with energy. He’s a smarty-pants and his perseverance is nothing short of inspiring. While this is not what exactly happened, the reality is his life was saved and Goose is forever grateful!  Goose was found wandering the streets and was turned into a local shelter. He was in dire need of some serious medical care.  The SNAFU was his only hope to avoid euthanasia.

Goose is the very definition of a couch potato and a cuddle bug.  He is the type of lazy English Bulldog who would much rather lay on the couch, snuggle in an open warm lap, and chew on a bone rather than go for a walk. If he could chew on a bone all day, he would definitely do that.  If his people are up for a movie, a car ride, or a game of tug-of-war you can find Goose ready to go anywhere as he is very social and always ready to meet new people and have a good cuddle session. He is a Bulldog that adores his people more than anything.  Be ready for a dog who follows you around like your shadow because he just loves to hang out and be near his people at all times!  Yes, Gooes is 100% a Velcro dog.  He desperately wants to please his people but is as stubborn as they come.  When Goose isn’t glued to his humans you can find him asking for Bulldog suited walk, exploring the yard, or sunning his cute buns outdoors. Goose enjoys a Bulldog-suited nap, begging for pets, treats, love, attention, and more attention!  Goose lives with a few foster siblings and after slow introductions (in a calm, controlled setting) he gets along wonderfully with them. Goose welcomes dogs with open paws but does need some time to warm up.  We don’t think Goose would be a candidate for a doggy park, or doggy daycare as he does take time to warm up to other animals and he would much rather hang out with balanced and submissive dogs, or just with his human! Goose is truly the pawfect dog in his foster home as gets along with the resident cat and does what is asked of him most of the time (he is a Bulldog after all!).  He is learning to be a gentleman, learning to take direction, and making vast improvements every day!  Goose is experiencing a big transition and will need firm leadership, patience, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home.  Positive reinforcement and a lot of praise and treats, when positive behavior is present, have worked wonders for Goose!  He seems to get along well with every human he meets (big or small)!  He is a bit mouthy at times so his foster family believes he would be best in a home with calm, VERY dog-savvy, gentle, children 2 years or older.  He would do great in a home with other dogs or equally as well as an only pet as Goose loves all the attention just on him!   As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Goose is nearly 100% potty trained; accidents in his foster home are few and far between.  He is on a routine and does extremely well! Goose does well in his crate (letting out a bark when he first enters) as he would much rather be with his people than in his crate.  His crate is appointed with a blanket and comfy dog bed so Goose settles down quickly.  We recommend that a crate arrangement is continued for him until he can acclimate into his new home and then slowly be trusted outside his crate.

Medically, Goose NOW seems to be in great health!  He has been neutered, nares widened, cherry eyes removed, FHO surgery to correct his hip dysplasia, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Good quality food and daily joint supplements would be ideal for Goose.  Goose always requires very simple vet-recommended exercises to help build strength up in his back legs. In addition, due to the severe skin issues, Goose came into rescue with, he would greatly benefit from a medicated bath every 2 weeks and his facial wrinkles tended to on an ongoing basis.

Goose would do well in a home with a yard, a family that can spend a lot of time with him, and is willing to allow for unlimited snuggle time!  A house with a fenced yard will be preferred for him due to his love for the outdoors but is not required.  He is not a runner but for his ongoing safety, he should always be secured with a harness and leash if a fence is not available. He is a champ with the stairs so a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling is okay for Goose-man.  We KNOW he’d be a GREAT office dog and requested that he attend an office and even offered to be on the official greeting committee; he is such a social butterfly!  Goose enjoys meeting new people and just needs to be reminded that he needs to be gentle.  He has bulldog antics on display most of the time, and he expects EVERYONE to be as excited to meet him as he is to meet them.  Goose is looking for a home where he can be the apple of his family’s eye, one that has the time and one that allows him to attend most of the family’s adventures.  He is just about the sweetest boy looking for some extra TLC, guidance, and leadership.  Goose thinks he is still a puppy and has such a goofy, loving personality that would fit into almost any home, but one with bulldog experience would be a huge plus. Goose thrives in a calm environment and doesn’t enjoy loud or overwhelming situations.  He is still a dog that is learning what pet life is all about and hands are not chew toys!  He is affectionately mouthy but redirects easily.  Adopt Goose and you won’t just gain a pet, you’ll gain a forever friend who will keep you entertained with his antics and warmed by his loyalty.  Goose is a total hunk, a cuddle bug, and just an overall sweetheart.  Despite his rough start, he is extremely resilient, goofy, and loving.  He will be an incredible addition and companion to a calm home with a patient family.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
