Eleanor’s Story

Eleanor came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Eleanor is a sweet, passive, calm, quiet, respectful, easy-going, well-mannered little chicken nugget who loves to be near her favorite humans at all times.  Even though she is a laid-back little girl, she does seek attention and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her foster family is.  Nap time is her favorite time! There is not a couch, bed, or lap that Eleanor won’t lie on during her many daily naps. Ellie (as she is affectionately referred to in her foster home) gets very excited to see people and will beeline straight to them for some good pets. If she gets too overwhelmed, she will distance herself and run to her bed for a bit but then will come to hang out with her foster family once she’s settled down. When she thinks no one is looking… she will beeline for the couch, awkwardly walks up the pet steps, and throws herself on the couch.  She will raise her head high in the air and move it back and forth like she claimed a gold medal.  JUST DARLING!!! Ellie is 1st in line for many things; cuddles, dinner, naps, pets, and scratchies.  She is extremely food-motivated and will not miss a meal!  When Eleanor first arrived at the rescue, she was a bit timid. Her confidence is booming and retreating to her safe spots is decreasing every day.  She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet.  Although she is gaining more confidence daily and becoming more comfortable, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family.  She currently lives with a few furry siblings. Her foster siblings are both male, run in a tight pack, and are overall very alpha.  They accepted Ellie with open paws to protect her like she was part of their pack. She is especially drawn to the resident protector.  Ellie enjoys napping with her furry friends but hasn’t shown much interest in playing, although this may come with time.  She has on occasion picked up a squeaky toy but the interest doesn’t last for more than a few minutes.  Ellie does LOVE to nibble on a bully stick (under strict supervision as she will attempt to swallow it when it gets soft enough). Ellie enjoys the company of her humans and frequently plops down, belly up for some good belly scratches (think of her splaying out in her rendition of George Costanza). It is about the cutest thing ever!  Her foster family reports that she is extremely trusting and will seek attention from any guest who will offer her some chin scratches, belly rubs, or ear rubs.  Ellie has met 2 larger dogs and did great co-existing in their shared space. Even though Ellie hasn’t asked to play with other dogs she’s with her foster family does think she needs to be with another dog in her home, so they can show her the ropes.   She is still learning the ways of pet life and finds comfort in being with her human, but living with one other balanced dog will certainly help her continue to learn and grow into the pampered pet she’s meant to be.  As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  Ellie was around 3 smaller children and confidently approached them and accepted all the hands petting her!  She can get easily overwhelmed by loud, abrupt noises so her foster family believes she’d do best in a home with older calm, dog-savvy, respectful children, but also fine with no kids in the home. She should always be supervised when she is around children to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Eleanor’s foster family happily reports she is 90% potty trained!  She made fast progress and picked it up quickly!  She hasn’t learned to signal to go out just yet, but if let out every couple of hours she’s done fine with that. She does mimic her foster sibling’s outside behaviors and does her business very quickly as she is NOT a fan of the colder weather.  Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.  Eleanor is fully crate trained, likes her crate for some quiet time, and sleeps quietly in her crate completely accident-free overnight as well as while her foster family is away from them.  For her safety, we recommend a similar crating arrangement is suggested when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Eleanor does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet. Since she loves her humans so much and is quite the snuggle bug, we do think she would love to share a bed with her adoptive family; she sleeps like a dream girl all snuggled up next to her foster brothers.

Medically, Eleanor seems to be in great health!  She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, nares widened, had a dental with several extractions, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.  She does suffer from pesky Frenchie allergies and would benefit from a daily allergy pill during allergy season and a cytopoint during the high-allergy season.

Eleanor is a very adaptable dog, and we think she would do great in almost any type of home.  A fully fenced-in yard is preferred for ongoing safety. Eleanor has not mastered any leash skills, will not potty on a leash, and will run if allowed.  We also feel that she would be a good pet for a multiple-floor apartment-style home as she is a quiet dog. A ground-level apartment with a small fenced-in area would be ideal to give her access to potty quickly.  She doesn’t enjoy much time outside (only been tested in colder weather) so a large yard is not necessary at all.  Work from home or a stay-at-home parent? Eleanor would love that!!! She spends each work day with her foster dad.  She participates in zoom meetings, quietly snores during conference calls and can sleep on a comfy bed the entire work day without a single peep!  Otherwise, we think she’d love to go to work with her new family, as long as it’s a quiet work setting, as she prefers not to be away from her people!  If her people are not able to take her to work with them, no problem at all – she’s completely happy sleeping the part of the day away as long as she has a warm soft blanket, and her people can arrange for a mid-day potty break for her!  Eleanor is looking for a family to call her very own, one with family members to dote on her and one that will offer her unlimited snuggles. Eleanor is about the sweetest little girl who insists on being the queen of the couch; she will make a family that loves a more chill dog very happy!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
