overview
Edward came into SNAFU Rescue via a commercial breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home to live the rest of his life as a cherished pet.
When Edward first entered into rescue life he was a little shy and unsure. He still prefers low-key and laid-back surroundings but has really gotten comfortable and looks for laps and pets now. Eddie, as he is referred to in his foster home, loves to snuggle and get as much affection from his humans as he can. Eddie has short bursts of zoomie energy and enjoys playing with his foster brother, with his toys, and romping in the yard – but overall, he is a tiny potato man. He is lazy, laid back, easygoing, and low energy. He loves being held, sitting on laps, and getting petted by humans. His favorite activities are wrestling, playing tug, running, and romping around the yard. His favorite toy is his stuffed alligator. Eddie is a bit forward with other dogs. He has jumped on their backs, invaded their personal space in their face, and lingers around; he redirects easily and now tends to leave other dogs alone. He would do best on small-scale play dates, not necessarily the big dog park settings. Eddie is quite smart, and curious, and will take a short time to trust. He needs a little extra patience as he is still learning how to “dog” and will require some training in his adoptive home to help him gain some confidence. As mentioned, he currently lives with several furry foster siblings. Eddie made fast friends with each of them and is thriving in learning what it is like to be a pet! Although he absolutely adores his foster siblings, he is still learning personal space. He matches well with dogs of any shape/size/gender as long as they can match his energy level and expect to have an instant best friend! He is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership, and positive correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home. He is extremely smart, a fast learner, and wants to please his humans. Eddie seems to get along well with every human he meets. Although Eddie has not been around small children, we feel because of his overall easy-going personality, he would do okay in a home with dog-savvy, gentle children 5 years or older (after being properly introduced), in a home with other balanced furry members, although he would also do okay as an only dog. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs and supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Edward is doing extremely well with potty training and is reported to be mostly trained. He is picking up going outside as he is mimicking the other dogs in the home (and is offered positive reinforcement). As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty. Just like with any potty-training endeavor, a high level of structure and routine is necessary for success (most dogs will regress when brought into a new home). Eddie is mostly crate-trained but has some potty/poop accidents inside his crate on occasion. He is learning to be “quiet” in his crate and although he does not try to break out, he still does bark on occasion. He does sleep in his crate at night and will do so quietly. Once Eddie can remain accident-free in his crate, we know that he would love to eventually share his adoptive family’s bed at night. For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him as he doesn’t know danger.
Medically, Eddie seems to be in great health! He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Eddie does have a small amount of scar tissue on his left eye that appears to be from a prior injury, but it doesn’t seem to pose any issues for him.
Edward would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative nature, but if kept on a strict leash, he could also do well without a fence. He is great at going upstairs but needs a little bit more coaxing to go down them. With continued practice, he would be fine. His legs are pretty short, but he is more than capable, so a home with multiple levels would be okay for him. Eddie would also be okay in a shared wall living environment because he is pretty quiet when crated. Eddie is still working on potty training, but would do great in an office atmosphere if he could be let out to potty throughout the day and offered a lap or cozy pillow to rest on…..do you need a tiny office potato at your work? Ultimately Eddie is looking for an extremely patient and understanding family that can continue to work with him on his puppy tendencies, and confidence, a family that is laid back and fairly quiet, and one with other balanced dogs to help him learn the joys of pet life and one with tons of comfy spots to nap after he’s romped in the yard, or had a nice leash walk. Due to his newness at being a pampered pet, he can be a bit of a flight risk and should never be unleashed or allowed in an open-style dog park for his ongoing safety at this time. Eddie is looking for a structured routine, in a laid-back home, so he can continue to learn how to “pet” and nap his life away. He is such an amazing playful boy and has come so far already and just needs a little extra attention to learn the ways of being a loved and cherished pet. He is such a loving and sweet dog that needs all the cuddles, with a little bit of direction when needed.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
