Dozer’s Story

Dozer was surrendered to the SNAFU rescue to no fault of his own.  He was found wandering the streets and was taken into a shelter; he was released to SNAFU to receive much-needed medical care.

Dozer is a super relaxed, social, very chill, slow, laid-back, stubborn Bulldog who adores his people more than anything.  Be ready for lazy days, many naps throughout the day, and a dog who follows you around like your shadow because he just loves to hang out and be near his people at all times!  Yes, Dozer is 100% a velcro dog.  Dozer desperately wants to please his people and will often smother them ever so gently with his Bulldog body pressing every inch of himself on his people.  When Dozer isn’t glued to his humans you can find him asking for belly rubs, a yummy chew bone, or begging for some yummy snacks.   After enjoying a belly rub session, he is looking for a comfy place to lay his head for one of his many naps throughout the day.   Dozer has several furry foster siblings in his foster home. He enjoys friendly, easy-going dogs that are aloof to his presence.  He isn’t interested in engaging them in any kind of socialization or play but can peacefully coexist as long as they are okay with him commanding the attention of the humans in the home.  Dozer is truly the pawfect dog in his foster home…if you consider a dog shadow pawfect!  He adores people, all people, and will beg for attention and love from anyone! Dozer is the welcoming committee when the doorbell rings and will greet guests with open paws. He also likes short walks around the neighborhood ensuring he greets everyone along his path.  Dozer is learning to be a gentleman, learning to take direction, and making vast improvements every day!  He is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership, patience, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home.  Dozer is new to pet life and will need some direction; he does look to his leader for direction.  Positive reinforcement, snacks, and a lot of praise when positive behavior is present have worked wonders for Dozer!  He seems to get along well with every adult human he meets!  Due to his overall large Bulldog body that loves to sit on his people, his foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children 6 years or older.  He would do great in a home with other balanced, passive dogs or equally as well as an only pet.  He honestly just prefers to be with his favorite human at all times!  As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Dozer is potty trained.  He initially had a few accidents in his foster home but once he acclimated the accidents stopped.  He isn’t a big fan of his crate and is offered a yummy incentive to guide him in but he does sleep quietly as long as he has some white noise in the background.  We believe with time, he will be able to be trusted out of his crate in his adoptive home. We recommend that a similar arrangement be kept for him.

Medically, Dozer seems to be in good health!  He has been neutered, cherry eye repaired,  updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Dozer is aging and to avoid any joint pain as he continues to age he will require to be kept on a high-quality joint supplement for the remainder of his life. Both his nares and palate were assessed and didn’t need surgery (he has a very thick palate that can cause some labored breathing at times).  He should always be kept cool and out of the heat (like all short-nosed dogs).

Dozer would do well in a home with a yard, a family that can spend a lot of time with him, and a home with little to no stairs (due to his inability to conquer staircases).  A house with a fenced yard is not required for Dozer but should be always kept leashed with a harness for his ongoing safety (he is not at all a fast runner and not considered a flight risk).  We think he’d be a good office dog as lying around in an office would be ideal for him!  He loves all people and does not bark but would require pets, hugs, and kisses from the office staff.   Dozer would do well with a full or part-time work-from-home or stay-at-home parent as he really adores his humans! If that isn’t possible, he is okay to sleep the day away in his favorite room as long as he has a comfy blanket, his plush bed, and some white noise as long as his people don’t leave him for too long.  Dozer is looking for a calm household where he gets naps, belly rubs, and a ton of time with those he loves the most.  He is just about the sweetest, most simple boy looking to spend his retirement years in a stable, loving environment.  He promises to be the best and most loyal companion one can find!  Be ready for hugs, a permanent shadow, and unconditional adoration from this sweet boy.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
