Dolly’s Story

To no fault of  her own, Dolly was surrendered to SNAFU Rescue via a private party. Her family wanted her to be placed in a loving home and to live out her life as a loved and cherished pet.

Dolly is the quintessential lovable, social, and laid-back Bulldog. A true sweetheart, she enjoys a slow pace and needs some gentle encouragement to get moving — but with a little motivation, she’ll surprise you with short bursts of energy! Though her favorite things include napping, snacking, and spending time with kids, she’s also delighted to meet new dogs one-on-one and gets along well with cats, too. Dolly is especially fond of small dogs, happily attempting to join in their play, though she’s usually outpaced by their speed. She’ll still give it her best and loves being part of the fun!

Dolly’s personality shines with her easygoing, friendly approach to life. She’s content lounging on any soft spot and prefers to curl up close to her foster family, particularly if a warm patch of sunlight is nearby. Despite her lazy streak, she can be coaxed into a bit of playful excitement, especially with her beloved nylabones. She’s an expert chewer and will happily settle in with a Nylabone to pass the time. When she spots a bouncy tennis ball, though, Dolly’s focus shifts to an intense mission: destroying the squeaker inside as quickly as possible. Watching her go at it with determination is a hilarious sight!

Dolly’s relationship with humans is heartwarming. She adores children, showing patience and a gentle nature around them. She’s also the “official greeter” in her foster home, always the first to waddle over and welcome new people with a wagging nub and an eager expression, ready for pets and scratches. It doesn’t take long before she’s won over hearts, and she happily settles in next to her humans once she’s had her fill of attention. After some indoor excitement, you’ll often find Dolly requesting butt scratches, basking in all the love, and then retreating to her favorite comfy spot for yet another nap.

As with most Bulldogs, Dolly has a touch of stubbornness, especially when she’s asked to do something that might take her away from her lounging. But she’s learning quickly with patience and a little guidance. In her adoptive home, she’ll need a patient and understanding family who can support her as she adjusts to yet another change, offering her the guidance and love she needs to feel safe and secure. Dolly’s good-natured temperament shines brightest with some encouragement and structure, and she does well with a bit of predictability in her routine.

Overall, Dolly is the ultimate relaxed potato, content to be surrounded by her people and soak in all the love and attention she can get. She’s especially well-suited to a home with children, as she tends to gravitate to them. Her gentle, affectionate personality makes her a wonderful companion for any family who appreciates her mellow, easygoing vibe. Dolly would do wonderful with a furry sibling or equally okay as an only pet.  As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other pets and children are essential to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe.

Dolly is doing well with potty training. Her accidents are non-existent in her foster home because she is kept on a strict consistent outside schedule. Dolly’s adoptive family will need to be willing and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty training success.  She is fine sleeping through the night without accidents. She would greatly benefit from a signal for potty in her adoptive home as she currently just waits by the back door. She hasn’t used the crate much in her foster home and has been trusted in a dog-safe space for a short period.  She is trusted in her foster home in a small gated area as she does not engage in ANY inappropriate chewing or has any destructive tendencies. She will sleep quietly in her own space during the day when his foster family happens to leave the home. Given Dolly loves soft comfy spots, she would love nothing more than to have her special area appointed with a soft bed and blanket. She would adore sleeping in bed with her new family. For her safety, we recommend that she keep a similar schedule when her humans are away from the home and/or she is left unsupervised so she is safe and secure while no one is home. She does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home.

Medically, Dolly seems to be in good health.   She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, is microchipped, and has been given the ok for adoption by our veterinarian! Dolly does suffer from those pesky Bulldog allergies.  Since changing her food while in rescue her skin is doing much better in addition to a daily allergy pill, melatonin (to control alopecia) wipes, frequent bathing, and cytopoint during high allergy months.  She had her left knee repaired (torn meniscus, torn ACL, and luxating patella. Her right knee has been evaluated pre-op and post-op and it does not need to be repaired at this time as the correction on the left helped stabilize her right.  Her right knee should be monitored for any changes as she does have a torn ACL but is not a surgical candadiate at this time as she is not symptomactic. Dolly is on a daily good-quality joint supplement to help with her joints. She must be kept at a healthy weight to keep the pressure off her joints.

Dolly would do well in almost any type of home. She is not overly active and does not wander off so a home without a fenced-in yard would be okay for her.   Dolly can do a limited amount of stairs but it would be beneficial to have a small amount to no stairs in her adoptive home. Dolly would be a good candidate for a ground-level apartment with no stairs as she is a quiet dog and would do well in a shared-wall environment.  She would prefer a family that is looking to relax with her and offer her regular potty breaks and unlimited pets/scratchies. She is also looking for a family that isn’t always on the go, one that likes to watch TV in the evenings, and has kids that are either residents or frequent visitors.  We think she’d love to go to work with her new family as Dolly enjoys riding in the car and prefers being around her people as long as the office environment is quiet.  You are not able to take her to work -no problem!  Dolly would very much like a part-time or full-time work-from-home/stay-at-home family member as she very much enjoys the comfort of her space at home. Cannot stay at home all day?  That is okay as Dolly is completely happy sleeping part of the day away as long as her people can arrange a potty break for her and allow some extra time for a few butt scratches!  Dolly is a very adaptable pup and would do wonderfully with a family, a single or a couple as long as they can spare the time she requires to be happy and well taken care of.

Dolly is a super sweet girl who is looking for a family to call her very own!  If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for her, please submit an adoption application for Dolly today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
