Denali’s Story

Denali came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Look at his infectious smile!!! Denali is a happy, clumsy, social, sweet, smart, and obedient Frenchie who adores his people. Be ready for a dog that won’t allow his human to leave the room without a chaperone and who follows you around like your shadow because he just loves to hang out and be near his people!  Denali desperately wants to please his people. He is extremely responsive to many commands (he knows the word NO), is easily redirected, loves encouragement, and will do just about anything for a treat!  When Denali isn’t glued to his human’s side, you can find him exploring the yard, weaving through the landscaping whilst rubbing his back on the tree trunks and grabbing a spot on the floor napping near his humans. He is extremely food motivated and has an adorable energy around him when it’s dinner or snack time!  Denali will wiggle his entire body with excitement; he cannot control his wigglebutt!  He has big bursts of energy throughout the day that are equally matched with chill time; he is very balanced in that way. When he is ready to chill, he will grab a soft bed or any space near his human’s side and sit as close to them as possible; he doesn’t understand personal space!  He enjoys some snuggle time albeit takes a minute for him to settle in but when he does, he snuggles in close resting his little chin on the chest of those he loves showing adoration and love.  Denali is new to pet life and is trying to figure out this whole new world he was thrown into. He will need time and patience as he acclimates to pet life. He seems interested in toys but has yet to figure out what to do with them, loves a good bully stick but hasn’t taken to anything else to nibble on (he must be diligently supervised if offered a bully stick, he wants to swallow them when they get soft enough).   He is insecure, always looking for his human for direction, correction, and communication.  Everything is new to him and overwhelming! He is learning to be a gentleman, learning to take direction, and making vast improvements every day!  Denali is experiencing a big transition and will need firm leadership, patience, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home.  Positive reinforcement and a lot of praise and treats, when positive behavior is present, have worked wonders for him!  Denali is seemingly awkward when interacting with other dogs.  He seems interested in them, but when approached he doesn’t know what to do and will walk away from the interaction.  He cohabitates well with balanced, passive dogs both male/female and big/small.  Denali also seems to get along well with every human he meets (big or small)! He has a very gentle and kind disposition when around small children graciously accepting an unlimited amount of pets from lots of little hands! He does jump up with excitement when new people enter the home or treats are involved but quickly corrects when firmly told “down”. He inadvertently could knock over super little wobbly children if not properly supervised. His foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children of any age and in a home with a well-balanced very submissive dog (big or small) that would teach him the good ways of pet life.  Due to his insecurities, Denali does not do well with an overly alpha, dominant dog as their presence is threatening him.  He would be okay as an only child if his adoptive family was able to spend quality time with him guiding him, and teaching him all the good things about pet life.  As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Denali is about 90% potty trained.  He makes great progress every day only having an accident here and there in his belly band; he was wearing belly bands before his neuter due to his marking.  Since he has been neutered, the marking has drastically decreased!  For Denali to continue to have success in his new home, his adoptive family must be willing to work with him on a signal for potty.  Denali is crate-trained and sleeps quietly without accidents while his foster family is away from the home.  He can take a minute to get settled (he will scratch the crate mat to get situated) and within a few minutes, he is snoozing away.  Once he is fully potty trained and comfortable in his adoptive home, we know that he would eventually love to sleep in a human bed at night!  Because Denali loves to be around his humans so much, it is recommended that he is only in his crate when his humans are away from the home as having people move about the home while crated can cause some undo anxiety.

Medically, Denali seems to be in great health!  He has been neutered, had a dental with extractions, nares widened, is updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!  Denali has those typical Frenchie season allergies.  Denali is given a daily Zyrtec (generic) to help manage them.  He has a ferocious appetite and could gain 2-3 lbs; his foster family is actively helping him gain some healthy weight.

Denali would do well in a home with a fully fenced-in yard.  He is extremely FAST and loves to explore, sniff, scratch, and run about the yard.  He is also working on leash skills, has yet to be successful using the bathroom while leashed, and would run if he sees someone or something that interests him. A house with a fenced yard/large yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard) as his leash skills still need a lot of work (as mentioned) and he will not approach stairs while leashed although Denali does great with stairs otherwise.  He craves outdoor time and a large yard to run and play would be the best fit for this boy! Denali desires a family that can spend a lot of time with him as he prefers the comfort of his people.  A part-time or full-time stay-at-home or work-from-home family member would be ideal for him!  He currently spends the entire workday with his foster dad and enjoys daily zooms, and conference calls whilst snoozing away on the office rug; he is the pawfect office companion!  We also think he’d love to go work with his new family if they wanted to take him to the office. He is a quiet boy who would sleep the day away only to wake to meet any new people who may walk by! The more time with his people the better!  Denali is okay with spending a few hours at home alone but wouldn’t have success if his adoptive family was gone all day.  Overall, Denali needs a leader who will patiently guide him to enjoy all that pet life has to offer.  He is a blank slate who is desperate for approval and craves love and attention.  He is such a darling, sweet boy who deserves a family to call his very own!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
