Demi’s Story

Demi came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Demi is a sweet, calm, quiet, timid, and slightly scared little Frenchie girl who loves to be near her favorite human at all times.  Even though she is a laid-back little girl, she does seek attention and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her selected human is.  Exploring outside on her many walks throughout the day is her favorite thing to do, followed very closely by cuddle time with her human. Demi is shy and timid needing ample time to decompress around new people and in environments. If she gets too overwhelmed, she will distance herself for a bit but then will come to hang out with her chosen human once she’s settled down. When Demi isn’t shadowing her human around for comfort everywhere they go you can find her searching for her furry foster siblings and taking in a snuggle with them.  She really is warming up to her furry friends and they are proving to be a good way for her to learn what it is like to be a loved and cherished pet.  When Demi first arrived at the rescue, she was a bit timid and scared, but that has (very) slowly gotten better. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet.  Although she is gaining more confidence daily and becoming slightly more comfortable, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family.  She currently lives with another Frenchie and a Lab/Hound Mix and she definitely prefers being around her friends to most other things. Demi enjoys napping with her furry friend but hasn’t shown much interest in playing with any toys, although this may come with time.  Demi enjoys the company of her human and frequently is found asking for attention, cuddles, and pets. She hasn’t asked to play with other dogs but does enjoy the company of her foster siblings and will play with them if they instigate it, so her foster family does think she would be fine with another CALM, gentle, passive dog in her home, so they can show her the ropes, or would do fine as an only dog as well (she picks her favorite person and glues herself to them).  She is still learning the ways of pet life and finds comfort in being with her human, but living with one other balanced, gentle, passive dog will certainly help her continue to learn and grow into the pampered pet she’s meant to be.  As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  She can get easily overwhelmed by loud, abrupt noises so her foster family believes she’d do best in a home with older calm, do-savvy, respectful children, but also fine with no kids in the home. She should always be supervised when she is around children to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Demi’s foster family happily reports she is making slow progress on the potty training front.  She is without a fenced-in yard in her foster home and relies on walks to her business. Demi will do her big business on her walks but often saves her small business for when she gets home.  Her foster family walks her out every couple of hours. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success (a fully fenced-in hard may be better for her so she has more opportunities to be safe and secure in a yard to do her business.  Demi is crate-trained and even though her crate is associated with all positive things (treats and meal time), she still will bark loudly when crated.  She will have occasional accidents in her crate as well. Demi has crate anxiety and doesn’t like to be without her favorite human.  For her safety, we recommend a similar crating arrangement is suggested when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Eventually once fully potty-trained, Demi may do better in a small dog-safe room as opposed to a crate.  Demi does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet. Since she loves her human so much and is quite the snuggle bug, we do think she would love to share a bed with her adoptive family.

Medically, Demi seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.

Demi is a very shy, timid, and apprehensive dog, and we think she would do great in a very calm, quiet type of home (as opposed to a busy household with kids running in and out). Although her petite size and short legs might make a lot of stairs an issue for her she continues to get better at conquering them so a home with a few stairs is okay for her!  A fenced-in yard would be beneficial for Demi because she is still mastering potty training, and is very skittish but it is not required as she does well on a leash and harness (she MUST be secured with a leash and harness at all times when outdoors).  She’s shown a desire to go on walks and does enjoy the time with her pack although she’s not a very active dog overall. If you work from home, are a stay-at-home person, or are retired Demi would love that!!! Otherwise, we think she’d be okay with a part-time work-from-home person as she prefers not to be away from her person! Due to her overall uneasy nature, Demi is not an office candidate at this time.  Demi is looking for a family to call her very own, one that will help guide her into pet life showing kindness, and compassion and allowing her the time she still needs to decompress. She is quite the delightful little girl who desires attention, not to be left alone for long periods, and someone who is home often to offer her love and consistent companionship.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
