Della’s Story
Della came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Della is an outgoing, typically active, playful, energetic, social, curious Boston Terrier puppy who enjoys playing with other dogs (big and small), chewing on bones, and entertaining herself with a toy and a comfy blanket, bed, or lap for nap time. She has the enthusiasm of a typical puppy for playtime and naptime; a ping-pong ball of energy who occasionally needs to snuggle up on the couch to recharge her battery. You can often find her exploring every inch of her foster home, looking for the resident pups to engage in a game of chase (dodge and weave) or a good game of tug-of-war. If her furry friends are romping around the home showing off their playful nature, that is a cue for Della to join in! She is extremely brave playing chase but is still working on her overall confidence. Della will typically watch and follow along with whatever her foster dog siblings do. After a fun (and exhausting) play session, Della will again snuggle up on the couch to recharge for the next play session. When her furry friends are relaxing, that is her queue to show off her curious side. She wants to know where everything is in the home and where noises are coming from so she must be supervised when wandering indoors as she doesn’t know danger. Della will collect shoes, and clothing only to dump them off in her bed and head off to find more! She is a little thief 🙂 In general, she ALWAYS wants to be with her people and other dogs! Della is just a puppy, is experiencing a big transition, and will need firm leadership, and consistent correction to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in her adoptive home. She is extremely treat-motivated and eager to please her humans so we know she will catch on very quickly! Della seems to fall head over paws for every human she meets. Her foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle children of any age, as well as a home with a playful furry friend (or two!). Della is adaptable and can have fun with her friends or her beloved humans! As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Della is still working on potty training and occasionally has accidents when she is roaming the house. She quickly picks up on things, mimics her foster sibling’s behavior, adapts well to routines, and starts to wait by the door to indicate she needs to go outside. Della is still a puppy and as with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with her, offering her a consistent schedule and working with her on a signal for potty/going outside. She is 100% crate trained and is keeping her crate clean and dry on her current routine. Della does sleep quietly in her crate when her foster family happens to leave the home and as well at night, but we think she would love to share a bed with her adoptive family! She is such a snuggle bug and will sleep 8 hours straight through the night. For her safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for her.
Medically, Della seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given the okay for adoption by our veterinarian.
Della would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to her curious, explorative nature and because she is still potty-training (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard). She does not yet understand boundaries, so she must be supervised while romping around the yard for her ongoing safety. Overall, Della is the best little Boston girl! She enjoys any attention, snuggle hour, playtime, furry friends, and all people (big and small). She is still in her puppy phase and puppy nibbles are still present. Once fully trained, we believe that Della would love to go to work with her adoptive family. She enjoys the company of her people as much as possible. This energetic and sweet girl is looking for a family that can offer her the stimulation she needs and the guidance to help her develop into an adult dog. Ultimately, she is looking for a home that has the time and patience to help her guide her into a balanced adult dog, a home with another furry sibling or two, and one that isn’t gone long hours. Della needs to burn off her endless Boston energy! The more hands to pet Della the better; she adores children! Della needs some reassurance/patience as she is more timid than a typical puppy and with time she will blossom! Be prepared for the needs and requirements of a young dog; Della will make it worth it!
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Della please submit an adoption application for her today!!
disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
