Deja’s Story

Deja came into SNAFU Rescue via a commercial breeding auction. We wanted her placed in a loving home to live the rest of her life as a cherished pet.

Deja is a smart, spicy, playful, energetic, social, curious Frenchie puppy who enjoys the constant activity of playtime, followed by a comfy spot for naptime. She also lovingly and affectionately goes by Princess Sassafras and Gremlin! She has the endless enthusiasm of a typical puppy but once all her energy has been exhausted you can find Deja looking for a lap to nap on or a comfy dog will do if a lap isn’t available. You can often find her exploring every inch of her foster home and she absolutely adores the outdoors.  Deja will actively search for his foster parents’ shoes and socks to play a fierce game of find your shoe!  She is a complete thief and knows exactly where they are and is fearless when it comes to capturing the prized possession.  When she isn’t burning off some energy, you can find her searching for her beloved plush squeaky toys, a ball, or a bone to keep her busy. Deja is a master at coaxing her foster pack into playing! She is extremely brave and fearless when initiating play. She will put her teeth around ANY bone or ball that is commandeered by a resident foster pack member, so she’s still learning manners.  She does live with a very laid-back foster brother and likes to ignore his requests for her to stop playing, so she’ll need help learning to respect the boundaries of other dogs. Deja’s favorite thing is to go from one foster brother to the next begging to play, but when she’s finally tired, she will put herself to sleep and let nothing distract her from her nap time. Deja is truly a Velcro puppy!  She must be touching her favorite foster brother while sleeping and loves it even more if she’s also touching one of her foster humans while sleeping. She is quite inquisitive and wants to know where everything is in the home so she must be supervised when wandering as she doesn’t know danger.  She currently lives with big and small dogs and loves them all. She truly doesn’t understand how small she is. In her mind, she’s a fierce lion! She gets along famously with them, but sometimes her puppy energy is too much for them to handle, so she’ll need correction from a human, or a confident and balanced dog.  She’s also been around her foster family’s cats. She has shown interest in them but has not tried to chase them. In public Deja is very confident and brave. Deja is just a puppy, is experiencing a big transition, and will need firm leadership, and consistent correction to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in her adoptive home. She is extremely smart, receptive to correction, and eager to please her humans so we know she will catch on very quickly!  Deja seems to fall head over paws for every human she meets, big and small.  She can get overly excited with young humans however she does well to listen to correction and not nip during play. Her foster family believes she would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children of any age, and a home with a playful furry friend or two.  Deja really is adaptable and can have fun with her friends, her beloved humans, or all by herself!  As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.

Deja is still working on potty training, but over the last month, she has shown great improvement.  She is still a puppy, so training is a work in progress. She has been on a routine to be let out every 2-4 hours and has done very well. She does still potty whenever the need hits her, like a typical puppy. She quickly picks up on things, mimics her foster sibling’s behavior, adapts well to routines, and does her business outside when she is asked.  Deja is still a puppy and with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with her, offering her a consistent schedule and working with her on a signal for potty.  She is confined to a playpen overnight and when her foster family is away and has kept that space accident-free for the past 2 weeks. She is such a snuggle bug, her foster family is sure she’d LOVE to share a bed with her furever family if that’s allowed.

Medically, Deja seems to be in great health.  She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given the okay for adoption by our veterinarian!

Deja would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to her explorative nature and because she is still potty training (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard).  She has not mastered stairs yet, so her adoptive family should be prepared to work on that with her. Once Deja is fully trained, we believe she would love to go to the office with her new family since this sweet girl loves to always be around her people!  Overall, Deja is an amazing little girl!  She enjoys a car ride, snuggle hour, playtime, furry friends, and all people!  This silly girl is looking for an active family that can offer her the stimulation she needs and the guidance to help her develop into an exceptional adult dog.  Be prepared for the needs and requirements of a young dog; Deja will make it worth it!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
